LOVED The Half of It! Didn’t feel forced whatsoever and especially loved the little touches of diversity without making it the only substance of the movie 🙌🏼
Man, we need better tropes and plots to follow for Asian led films, series etc. I just think we don't need romance for everything (as an aspiring Asian actress myself who isn't too into the romance genre). I personally have been really into screenwriting and voice acting these days, and my stories transpire into the crime, mystery, psychological thriller, based on true stories kinda plots! I believe Asian led films need more of this too.
Hey, you aren’t alone in wanting different things! I’ve been doing the same in making a crime/ mystery series and having most of an Asian cast. To put more spotlight on those types of movies or shows is to help them garner attention
Hey we’re looking for more writers to work with! We are a digital media company based in London, UK. We produce narrative & variety with the focus on Asian Representation because we feel there isn’t enough British Asian representation over here. But we’re all about inclusivity and would love to work with others around the world too! :)
BAM & Beyond - Dramas, Films & Shows oh really?! (Actually I'm based in the UK too haha but it's nice to see there's British Asians within this industry too! I totally agree that we are underrepresented here!) Just checked out your Friends skit, absolutely hilarious 😂 wouldn't mind giving some ideas or helping with writing tbh as I've wanted to explore more of my screenwriting and voice acting sides of myself :)
love this video. i truly loved THOI and it was so heavy on the heart. it was a romantic movie yet not the usual rom-com, it was way deeper, it was *bold*. and about NHIE, i was so happy when i saw the casting. it's the first time i saw an almost all POC cast, and only POC on the series poster and it honestly filled me with joy. representation does feel good and finally right. the storylines are really great and though it may seem like a light-hearted humour show, it's way more intense and it got me crying more than once!
The half of it was such a surprising movie delving in to such a topic that we just don't see much of. There's definitely some charm to the movie. The friendship, small town, cosy home vibe, innocence of growing up, growth.
I've seen both. I'm so proud. I'm never up to date with movies. Also please continue this series. I love seeing Taylor reviewing movies! Love from Nigeria ♥️
a big yes to more videos like this !! I personally liked the half of it a lot more than to all the boys (as overall plot and in terms of asian representation). I really appreciated how the half of it focused a lot more on love in a friendship aspect rather than romance - like with paul and ellie watching that film where the main character runs after the moving train, and paul doing the same for ellie "because he cares". I also loved the scene when aster was getting undressed and ellie immediately turned away because she didn't want to make her uncomfortable because lesbians being nervous about female friendships due to making them uncomfortable is such a common struggle (from what I've heard, please let me know if I'm wrong as it's not from personal experience) and an important one to portray. also the scene where paul's mum told her son, it's okay if you're gay BUT NOT THE SAUSAGE RECIPE !! we love to see it. to all the boys i loved before was a great movie, but that one scene of lara jean, kitty and peter watching their favourite film with a racist representation of asians that even peter points out as "isn't this kinda racist", for both sisters to excuse it because the main character is hot...didn't sit well. also peter was comparably bland to paul...but at least it wasn't anything close to the trainwreck of sierra burgess.
enjoyed them both! really loved 'never have i ever' - it had me chuckling, cringing, swooning, crying... i would recommend it to anyone. i especially loved the nuance and sensitivity that the writers gave to their mother-daughter relationship. 'the half of it' developed its female lead to be very three-dimensional, and given her race, gender, sexuality and social class (so to speak) it's so refreshing to see all the complexities that come with it portrayed as something more 'matter-of-fact' and natural and not overworked. netflix really delivered with these two (and i loved them much more than to all the boys).
really wanted you guys to review these hehehe I finished never have I ever in one day--pretty sure everyone binged it lol, ellie and munsky’s friendship is also iconic
This is awesome!!! Make more for sure, I love watching movie reviews and I think you could go more in depth with your knowledge of filmmaking on styles, plots, etc. It’d be nice to hear your personal take as well
Taybae, I enjoyed this video and would be happy to see more content like this. I would suggest going more in-depth and proving critical thoughts (not just criticisms, but analysis or things you guys thought was done well). Without that, this felt more of just a slightly spoilery summary + recommendation.
I watched The Half of It, really loved it, and Never Have I Ever was suggested right after and I started that and watched that during dinner for the rest of that week and both were so FUCKING GOOD
Please make this a series!! tbh don't be afraid to point out the problematic parts and the enjoyable parts because some of us definitely want to support asian made media but feel a little weird at some odd choices. it's good to know we're not alone!
Listen, I spent ALL this month watching all these shows and film and reading books. Now I'm going to binge "Ramy" & " Warrior", a great Asian month to everyone. Bring on more yes please.
I love Never Have I Ever!!! And I recommended it to my friends saying the exact same thing lol (about how it’s cliche but also different in so many ways, especially those details that resonates with most Asians) And yes, please do other review series!!!
Hey Wong fu, What about a video/lunch break where you guys talk about the dynamics between the South Asian and East Asian communities.. where their values match and differ, etc..? :)
Great content as always Taylor! I like this platform of video! Are you guys going to swap around and each person review different shows or is this Taylor's gig?
I liked the half of it cause although it’s cliche the relationships were really lovely and they were able to develop them in a good pace in just an hour and a half :) Kinda messy relationship at some point and I was a little surprised 😯 but it made a lot of sense and it was great
totally agree! but i don’t think it’s as cliche as to all the boys lol. especially since they focus more on finding yourself/sexuality and friendship rather than “which guy am i in love with and which one will complete me”
1) If you look at high school comedies and dramas since the 1960s, you will see actors up to 30 in most of them. That is generally why they fail after a few seasons. 2) Taco sausages look like of the things that I have had to make during the recent quarantine when you could not get a loaf od bread. A sausage on a pita bread or a flour tortilla and salsa is not the worst thing in the world.
Watch the people at WongFu not speak a word about the current situation in the US. It's interesting, because it seems like they care so much about discrimination and equal rights when it's Asian Americans, but when it comes to any other group they act like it doesn't exist or doesn't matter. But also, if they're not educated on the topic, I'll admit that it's much more important to slowly educate yourself in real life, than automatically put out a statement/video just b/c it would be a good thing
As much as I cringed with all the cliches, I so agree that the lengths that netflix has taken to create a more inclusive film culture with so much more diversity in ethnicity.
I guess for Chinese it must have been really hurt to make parady video out of non Chinese contents like 'All the boys..' and 'Parasite', well at least you got some views and gained some coins, that's quite a big deal for your people isn't it.
.. I say 'Lame,' because some of Your 'Film's,' .. (Maybe unknowingly and passively).. 'Down- grades,' Asian men.🙂 (Just saying)... Think about it..(Phil .. you idiot)... (Just kidding).😁
Please do a Review Series Taylor! This is great! Too many streaming sites, I can never choose. Tell us what you suggest!
YES
Wasn't expecting this kind of video but I would definitely love to see more in the future!
LOVED The Half of It! Didn’t feel forced whatsoever and especially loved the little touches of diversity without making it the only substance of the movie 🙌🏼
solo taytay content is more than we ever could've asked for this quarantine :)
Man, we need better tropes and plots to follow for Asian led films, series etc.

it was a teenage romcom what did you expect, it's not like many of those even exist for asian-americans already
Hey, you aren’t alone in wanting different things! I’ve been doing the same in making a crime/ mystery series and having most of an Asian cast. To put more spotlight on those types of movies or shows is to help them garner attention

I lost it at "make sure not to bring up *taco sausages* to your Latina crush"
We all need a little more Taylor in our lives
Loved this, Taylor! Definitely need more of your reviews.

to all the boys not even close to good.
#ICANTBREATHE
WE NEED MORE TAY #tayisbae
Isn't "the Half of it" basically Cyrano with a gay twist instead of a big nose?
Taylor WTF.......
I guess Asians don't get hot until they're in their 30s...
Hi, Taylor
I don't watch Wong fu, lately (because, you are kinda lame, you know, 2) .. But, this .. I can.. kinda respect.. Taylor.
Hahah appreciate the honesty
.. I say 'Lame,' because some of Your 'Film's,' .. (Maybe unknowingly and passively).. 'Down- grades,' Asian men.🙂 (Just saying)...
Think about it..(Phil .. you idiot)... (Just kidding).😁
