Si yu’us ma’åse para este infotmåsion. Excellent video as always che’lu. I’ve always called myself Chamorro (now CHamoru) for myself, and Guamanian for my Chinese grandma since she was born and raised on Guam.

    Great stuff
As an American and ethnically mestizo of Italian, German, and Chamorro heritage I tend to have the opinion that Guamanian is people of Guam, regardless of ethnicity. Terms with the land’s name in it just signify where one lives and/or nationality. Such as American , Mexican, etc , regardless of ethnicities they are American, or Mexican. That’s how I see it

Guamanian is a constructed term to create boundaries between Our People. They want us to see ourselves as separate from each other not all related and One People. Now used as the hyphenated other for all residents of the Mariana Islands. Diaspora continue to use Guamanian. Great background and analysis che'lu! Guaho CHamoru!

In Texas I knew 2 gorgeous brothers in high school (1980s). They were very popular. ❤ They always referred to themselves as Guamanian. They moved back to their beautiful island late 80s.

As always, well said, Pulan. Also, throughout the Marianas, as far as our currency is concerned, three clam shells equal one U.S. dollar. I can speak on such matters because I’m Chamorro, Guamanian, AND Saipanese. 😊

      I think you are American.
Guam is a colony of America.
In Philippines it is called a "Surname"
      For Americans:
      Guamanian is your First Name
      Chamorro is your Nickname
      American is you Last Name
      Example:
If you live in Philippines and is Philippine citizen,
      Tagalog is your First Name
      Manileño is your Nickname
      Filipino is your Last name

Better not to label people. It causes division among the populace. I believe everyone should be Guamanians but let the Indigenous people keep their identity and culture. The original people should not be forced to abandon their roots.I am from Micronesia. We are Micronesians but we have kept our customs and traditions since eternity. Politics might change but culture must be kept.

    Chamorro..... Chamorro, and there isn't a being that's a Guamanian. It's just a word. 🤦🏻‍♂️
The local people on Guam are Chamorro's, nothing else unless they have a different origin or want to be identified with a different pronoun... Lol, by oh means homie...

One thing I have a problem with Chamorro and Guamanian is that they lost a lot of their culture and now they steal dances from Polynesia and call it their own.

Chamorro is a spanish word. Look up the Chamorro family from nicaragua. I think, as locals, we need to push to be called Guamanians. Its a least a small step towards establishing an identity.
