You are absolutely correct. There is not one real athlete who would not think the same thing in sports. You are supposed to think that way when you compete.
All he was saying is from less than 100 yards he is as good as anyone. When he is hitting from 150, Rory is hitting from 80. That is a massive difference at the top level.
Agreed. Look at what most would consider an insane par 4 at 500yrs. If Rory just hits a smooth fairway finding 310-320 drive, he’ll only have 185ish in. That’s a stock 8i. For Block, swinging out of his shoes tee shot might roll out to 300 leaving him with a full 4i if it needs to carry the distance and good luck gettin it to stop.
I mean there’s clearly something literally WRONG with what he said, one look into approach stats will bear that out. I don’t find it offensive tho , just wrong
Lots of petty people out there. At the PGA Championship, Rory drove it 314 average but leads Tour average at 327 yards. Michael Block averaged 291 yards at the PGA. That’s a difference of 23 to 36 yards. That means when Michael Block is hitting 8 iron, Rory is hitting a sand wedge maybe. That is a HUGE advantage! That could be a whole stroke to 1.5 strokes average increase per round. At the end of the Tournament somebody is already 4-6 strokes ahead of you. Emotions before facts is our society.
Tiger said something very similar and even said he thought he was better than Jack Nicklaus before he became big. I'm not saying he's Tiger, but nothing's impossible.
He may very well be right, but he could’ve made the same point without being so cocky about it. However, I simply don’t buy that the ONLY difference between him and guys like Rory, Rahm, Scheffler, etc. is how far he hits the ball.
Hey, there are so many old players in any walk of life who would say just this. Why tf did The Exorcist call an old priest AND a young priest? One of the greatest combinations to a younger ringer is an old guy with a lot of technical and competitive knowledge. Old guy strength vs the endurance of youth is a classic archtype of humanity lol
Why r u just making stuff up? He’s played in the pga championship 10 times and played in 5 pga tour events just this year, ur making Michael block look stupid just became u didn’t feel like doing any research before commenting
He can’t hit the ball as far so he has to have a really good short game. Logically if he could hit the ball further he’d be better idk what’s so hard lol
It has to do with how straight Rory is, not how long he is. It is more impressive how long AND straight he is. I can teach block to hit it as far as Rory but he won't be straight.
He hied an agent and got over exposed. He played at the next event in Fort Worth and missed the cut. There are a dozens differences between his game and Rory's. He caught Lightning in a bottle for a week, and then felt he was Arnold Palmer.
Nah the hate is justified. That’s an insane comment to make from someone who made 1 out of 8 cuts on pga tour. Spoiler, the 7 MC weren’t close lol. Lightning few days at the pga but no one should be pretending he is one of the best in the world at any part of the game of golf
Ummmm I’d shoot below 70 if I had rory’s distance. Know how big of a difference 345 to 280 is? That’s the difference on an average par5 from hitting hybrid/4 iron to hitting a PW/9. What’s crazy about what he said
We should test that theory and play a match where he plays Rory’s drive . He would still lose because a tour player has a way better short game and plays better under pressure.
@@lets_go_brandon_lee_6198 He did it once though, let’s be frank about that. He looked really good that week around the greens, maybe he just doesn’t have the mental toughness to compete at that level week in week out
@@RonniePickeringMate MB averaged 291 yds with his driver that week. That would put him about 160th+ amongst Tour players. While Rory is hitting wedges and short irons into greens, MB is hitting mid to long irons into greens. That equates to a lot of missed greens and lost strokes. But it could be that you’re right about his mental toughness. The Tour is ruthless if you don’t have the ability to grind week in and out.
Same old shit same shit they said about tiger when he came out saying he wanted to win his first event. These guys are professionals. How do you not expect them to have the mindset of a champion that I’m the best. Golfers who aren’t confident in that way are what make the sport unlikable for some
I’m pretty sure that’s how golf works. I’m not sure more than 1% of golfers out there could arguably say they hit their 4 iron as accurate and consistent than their 9 iron let alone hold those firm ass greens they play on.
The annoying part is the Tour latching onto to the Block narrative so hard, going all 'this is what makes the tour great' blah blah blah...after LIV stole the show with the Koepka win.
It was a very silly thing to say because the guy that won the tournament, brooks koepka isn’t really long off the tee and there’s plenty more examples of guys in the bottom half of driving distance that have had amazing careers
Block is deadly from inside120 yds…. ALSO…… HE IS A FANTASTIC PUTTER….if I was Rory ….. ask Block for a putting lesson(s) then watch Rory on the greens…… yikes!!!!!
I mean he's no entirely wrong. If Rory is playing on a driver only with low 400 par 4 course, he probably would only need a driver and 5 iron down to wedges. And 5 and 6 iron would probably only be for par 3s
Everyone puts the top 10 tour pros on a pedestal and worship them like gods. Theyre just a little more consistent. Believe it or not, if a 2 handicap played golf with rory hes going to hit inside of rory… a few times more than likely
Idk how anyone could disagree with him. Tour course at getting so stupidly long anymore. It's no coincidence the best players in the world all hit it a country mile. Of course a longer player will have an easier time.
Yea and your telling me if block lost say idk 15 pounds of weight Gained 35 yards on average off the tee and say 12-16 yards per iron he wouldn’t be pretty good?! He’s 46 he’s never been asked to play 3-5 weeks so stressful of golf before sure he’s made it to the pga before. But to act like he is supposed to just top 20 each week is ludacris he’s completely out of shape and never played professional season before lol His comment had nothing wrong with it. He was saying “if I had another 30 yards off the tee” “with my wedge chipping and putting game” I think I’d be a tour pro. (And a good one at that) I don’t disagree with the man personally. But hey roast him whatever 😂
Funny thing is all those roasting him would think they would be much better if they had idk 40 more yards off the tee 😂😂😂 Hell I’m a 3.6 handicap my best driver goes 285 (in the fairway without trying to swing legit out of my shoes) but it’s like 1/7 swings maybe If I could hit it 310 in fairway say 3/4 drives my scores would drop a lot and I’m not a “short game wizard” so yes if this guy had more length he would be really good 😂 😂 simply common sense logic that most do not have anymore 😂 sheesh I’m outraged he claimed he would be good/do well/has confidence in himself after teaching and then playing better than pros in a major (yes he played awful next week) but he’s 46 out of shape (not a tour pro) lol And that place was on the “longer side” more for bombers bc the rough wasn’t “terrible” compared to the previous week. And he wasn’t getting 30-50 yards of roll with driver But even if he doesn’t play well this week Idc he played well good for him and he should think if he gained 30/50 yards off the tee he would be really good!

He is just feeling himself. Golf is fickle. He had a great week and I'm sure when he said this, he 100% believed it. Leave him alone.
He would probable be one of the best players in the world if that were the case let’s be honest

People just need something to bitch about. While real men watch this and say...
I like that shit.
He's literally speaking what he believes. People shouldn't hide from their confidence if they're asked to perform. That would be boring.
Will always be a legend….but I bet his teaching calendar filled up real quick!!
Blocky is a Absolute legend
The difference between pros and nobodies is this level of confidence. People who are afraid to back themselves are the people complaining
Golf is changing as this new generation comes it. This won't be the last time this will happen
Golf is the only sport where everyone cheers for every player. You never hear the crowd boo for a player.
The people mad are behind the red line 😭😭
The issue is that he’s wrong. If he was as good an iron player and wedge player as the best in the world, he’d be on tour, even without the distance
He’s right Rory is just an average pro who hits it long
He did say something rude. He said he now only gives lessons to his friends.
Golf is mostly mental, and you want this level of confidence
I didn't find anything wrong with his words. I do find something wrong with a society that's always ready and willing to pounce.
Michael Block made me believe I have a chance to make it pro. I'd be a pro if I could drive 500 yards
He’s still a legend and always will be. Fuck the haters. They switch up very quickly.
He has confidence! What’s wrong with that! Heck there is a lot of pros wished they had Rory’s length!
Block is why I’ve gotten interested in golf. The dude is the real deal.

Any good golfer has to be over confident, compared to bad golfers that is

Rory is a choker. Rory has been a choker since Augusta .
I think if fat perez could smack the ball where rory does he would without a doubt be on tour giving guys a run for their money
He placed top 15 in his first pga event EVER. That pressure alone is enough to make pga players break. He beat some of the best players in the world
That wasn't his first, he didn't make the cut in the others.
His 5th PGA event this year alone lol
Why r u just making stuff up? He’s played in the pga championship 10 times and played in 5 pga tour events just this year, ur making Michael block look stupid just became u didn’t feel like doing any research before commenting
Pro golfers almost have to be delusional in the belief that they can win.
If I could hit it like Rory I also would be the best
Blocks a good dude
He can’t hit the ball as far so he has to have a really good short game. Logically if he could hit the ball further he’d be better idk what’s so hard lol
If I could take Rorys drives I would still shoot upper 80s
Never underestimate my ability to waste a shot.😢
Chipping and putting
The hardest distance to master in golf is the space between your ears.

Brooks not long? Dafuq
