After searching through theme after theme and downloading ones that definitely impressive I still find myself wishing for widgets or color schemes that are on some but not others. Thanks for this!
Yeah, I started trying to figure out how to theme on my Mi 11 later last year. There really isn't a lot of content on the more in-depth parts of theming for it. A lot of trial and error as well as looking at other's works to see what they were doing. Finally have a lot of it figured out, thankfully. :)
Hi. Thank you. Your video is very helpful to us who is just starting to design our own Themes. Just a quick question, where did you download your icons for the theme?
I do a mixture. I grab some from places like flaticon and icons8 for a lot of them. Some of them are the originals pulled via .png search that I edit and recolor. Lastly, I will craft completely custom ones for some
Started building mine a week ago and I have a ton of questions... 1. How do you replace the background images (with the bg.9 suffix) for the notifications/control panel? It refuses to export anytime I do so, no matter how similar I make the images (while adjusting for only colour and opacity), I even include the "graph lines and dots" at the edges. 2. Okay 2 is for dark mode but you said you'd address that in a subsequent video... I had to spoof an existing theme file and just copy and paste using its folder structure (with the nightmode folder in it)... I hope the app provides an easier way to switch to dark theme. 3. I assume you're registered on the theme store? If you are, what's the process like? If you aren't, how do I get my custom theme to work permanently? I just want a theme I like for myself, with some UI modifications here and there; I'm not really interested in building 10s of them, so I see no point in signing up. 4. You seem like the kind of guy who has impeccable design taste... So, if you're on the store, please drop your username or theme names, or just drop recommendations 😩... I'm sick of most of the stuff I see there, I've only seen a handful of themes (specifically system/UI) that I like, but they don't get everything right... I'm tired of searching 😩
1. Theme Editor likes to throw errors for certain changes. So I do a lot outside of Theme Editor, just using the small portion that I do in Theme Editor and then edit everything else outside of it and just drag them into the mtz. That being said, the background/bg.9 images are fickle. They sometimes work for me and then other times don't load. I think it's just an issue in MIUI's theme engine, itself. 2. I go over dark mode in episode 2 but the gist of it is to create a folder structure within each application you're editing called "nightmode" which will contain the same structure as the main folder (res, xmls). It will use that folder for when dark mode is activated. Things to note, is that in the xml file for theme_values needs the "LightTemplate" in the header changed to "darkmodeTemplate." Then on the images/xml some of the ones that have "light" in the name need to be changed to "dark." 3. No, I'm not registered on the Theme store. I actually plan to do a video where I apply to it at the end of my theming series. As far as making it permanent, in episode 3 I have a fix for the "incompatibility" issue. Just need to replace a line in description.xml. For really making it permanent, you can replace the resources for your ROM within the root of your device. However, I highly don't recommend this method. 4. I appreciate the compliment! I like making themes how I like them but like I said before, I am not currently on the Theme Store but will apply at the end of this series. I do not plan on doing a lot of themes, just a few for myself every so often but will upload them on there if I'm accepted :)

No but the new episodes will. They use practically the same engine, you'll just have to pull assets from the version of HyperOS you're on. I do that in episode two
Hey. This is super helpful and i just started to design my own theme. However in the static icon there are apps missing such as snapchat, pinterest etc. Any idea how i can import these app to static icon so i can customize their icons plz?
You can replace them by putting the icon in the icon folder and naming it by the package name (e.g. "com.snapchat.android" for snapchat). You can use an app called Apk Analyzer to easily find the package names. The app icons for the rest of the system are found in each app decompile, usually in mipmap folders as well as systemui (these change the system ones and ones in recents, etc -- not the icon used for launchers which is the one in icons folder)
I've been creating my own themes since MIUI 11 but not the intense ones like yours. I am running MIUI 13 now and I wanted to know how to replace the color of the "droplet" icon to not blue. It's the first card in control panel. The data usage. I did see in one of your videos that it was changed from blue to dark green. I've been looking at existing themes but they weren't able to change the colors.

This tool is really outdated but HyperOS is set up similarly to miuiOS in theme structure. You will have to use the next couple tutorials for it but you can add a theme with all your icons that way. However, depending on how you want to edit them you will have to edit each one yourself (why most themes don't touch all icons) or use a simple mask setup which only works so well. I recommend finding a batch editor to change them close to what you want then fix the ones that need a little extra tlc separately

@@icemint_asa7606 Thank you I'll look more into that, in the mean time I've discovered the new version of the MIUI Theme editor, designing seems easier in that version although I still need to try it out. I need help with the color of the old control center, how can I make transparent the part of the background, where the wifi, data, rotation buttons are, but the part around it, the one that when it is in dark mode is gray and when it is light mode is white.
This is an old program that hasn't been updated in awhile. It only worked partially for the MIUI version I had in the video. I only used it for basic structure for the theme BUT you can still build themes for HyperOS the same way. As far as I can tell, the themes for HyperOS use the same style engine so you can create .mtz files with updated assets for it. Part 2 and 3 will help you more than this one

Yes and no. Some things work, others do not due to the differences in the asset schemes for MIUI 13. The next two episodes in the series should in-theory work for it but the theming engine is a bit broken on the MIUI 13 betas/Weeklys. I think it's some bugs in it. I've had success with somethings sometimes but other times they just don't work (mostly control center) but everything else works as it should
MIUI Theme Editor is windows only but you can probably do it all on your phone (by editing .mtz files) via the next two videos but I wouldn't recommend it because the time it would take would increase exponentially.
The res folder/xmls in the root of each app folder is for light mode and the "nightmode" folder handles everything for dark mode. You can theme each of them the way you want them. MIUI's Theming Engine will pull from "nightmode" folder for assets when dark mode is enabled and res/xml in the main folder of each themed app's folder when it's off. So they can both be different. However, you won't be able to do both at the same time in MIUI Theme Editor. You'll have to edit the structure of the mtz and combine both. The next two videos will show you more of that. The Theme Editor can only do so much
@@icemint_asa7606beside the app i can change the icon in the theme editor but some apps like Soundcloud don't appear there. So how can i change these app icon ?
Just open archive the .mtz with 7-zip (or alternative zip program) and click on icon. Then pull the icon for the app you want after naming it after the apps package name (i.e com.soundcloud.android for SoundCloud) into the folder with the rest of the icon pngs

hey, can someone help me? i'm trying to create a theme for miui 14 i've already downloaded the new miui designer tool, but i'm having trouble understanding how to use it
The designer tool is only really helpful to create a base project. It works for some older versions of MIUI but not too much for 14. The res folder/xmls in the root of each app folder is for light mode and the "nightmode" folder handles everything for dark mode. You can theme each of them the way you want them. Partially. It will replace some theme files that use the same names as MIUI 12 but the next couple videos will allow you to theme more of MIUI 13 (which I'm theming in this series)
I have a proplem with installation
Installing MIUI Theme Designer or the Theme you made?
@@icemint_asa7606 the theme designer
Error massage "can't find java environment"
"Can't find java.dll"
If Java is installed, try adding it to your environment variables
its free?
Yes but it's limited in ability
hey, can someone help me? i'm trying to create a theme for miui 14 i've already downloaded the new miui designer tool, but i'm having trouble understanding how to use it
The designer tool is only really helpful to create a base project. It works for some older versions of MIUI but not too much for 14. The second part of this series tells more about how you would theme for MIUI 14 since the asset schemes aren't quite the same. The designer tool hasn't been updated in awhile either
@@icemint_asa7606 ahh yes I understand, and when is the next part coming out (looking forward to learning how to create my own themes)
I can finally make my own theme... I wanna make one but none of them are helpful...
Only your tutorial is helpful asf
How can I change the boot up animation and the boot up sound?
I will show you in the upcoming video. I will go over wallpaper, bootanimation, boot audio
@@icemint_asa7606 Okay, I'll definitely watch it, thanks.
