My cousin was in his late 40's. Been fishing all his life. Really good swimmer. Drowned wade fishing off Crystal Beach. No storm. Rip current got him and he was drowned before he could get his feet under himself. It happens. Sad for his family.
Do people not realize what kind of rip currents are made with tropical storms or hurricanes in the ocean? Obviously people need to be educated better and under stand the risk and if they still do the risky behavior thats on them.
I live on this island and was there today on beach ferrous finding out what happened last night Lord I need prayers myself Hazziez family for strength and peace so much pain on going May he rest in heaven ❤️ Amen
Visitors...read the warnings on the beaches. If you see a life guard... Talk to one about conditions. If you don't know what it means, look it up, you have the rectangle of knowledge in your hands. If you are a weak swimmer, wear a life jacket.
Yep....b÷n there for a long long time....these are examples, sadly, of the challenging authority behaviors in which we have all engaged at one time or another. My prayers to all and the lifeguards who tried to save this life. 🕊
How are the life guards going to help when they sit there with there feet kicked up in the air while on duty???..... law suit against Galveston coming soon I bet
City of Galveston is only responsible for the beach not the ocean. Once you are in the ocean the city has no jurisdiction over you. You can swim out as far as you want. Lifeguards can waive you in but you do not have to comply and you will not get in trouble when (if) you make it back to land.
Lifeguards are the reason there haven't been more deaths. In one of the drownings earlier this year several people got caught in a rip tide and the lifeguards were able to save all but one. They aren't superheroes, they're only people and they can't just magically find and rescue someone who has been swept under the water and is nowhere to be seen. And what do you mean sit there with their feet kicked up? Until something happens, all they can do is sit in the tower and be on lookout. They can't predict the future and they can't be in the water because they need to be able to see far. If you see them napping or on their phone, that's a problem, but just sitting there watching is literally their job.
Aww man I feel for his family.
Strong currents. Be cautious

Not the water's fault!
Charles Barkley told y’all to stay away from Galveston beaches.
Are there signs that defines what the flag color means at Galveston? I dont remember seeing any when I stayed there.
The flag decoder is on the seawall at the lifeguard stand.
Yes and has been for decade's!!!
Ahhh- probably need some bright lights that penetrates the sunny day surrounding the signs for us normal humans lol.

😔😔😔😔😔😔
Why don’t they require everyone to wear a lite weight inflatable life vest in the water?
Just stay out the water who wants to swim in mud anyway
It's not mud. It's sand.
Lieutenant Dangle

Did I see a no swimming sign? I bet that’s where the drowning happened. Yall never follow rules, now look.
The closer you get to the rock's there are no swimming signs!!!
Yeah unfortunately no swimming signs are only suggestions, but not law. You can swim anywhere you want in the ocean without a legal penalty.
