This Superboy show is a real treasure and more shows need more intense yet well-intentioned superdickery. What I find interesting is that animation seem to be somewhat cyclical and these short, simple episodes have been done with Justice League Action shorts.
Superboy/Superman from the 60s Filmation animated shows were all voiced by Robert Hastings who is best known by comic book fans for voicing Commissioner Jim Gordon in Batman: The Animated Series which explains why his voice acting is leagues above everyone else besides Krypto who totally owned the role.
This show also highlights how frugal Filmation was with their shows. Count those animation shortcuts.
I hope you enjoy the simple adventures of a boy and his dog and how they beat the stuffing out of aliens and crooks. Truly a wholesome adventure anyone can get behind... Smallville was a very odd place.

I love how the narration specifically mentions that Superboy was spinning _counterclockwise_ to travel back in time. Like, spinning clockwise to go back in time would just be silly.

Presumably spinning clockwise at the speed of light is how you go to the future. Lets not even get into what happens when spinning on a y axis. Oof.

@@MinscFromBaldursGate92 What do you mean by that? I enjoyed the Superman and Superboy comics of the 1960's and 1970's. Maybe some of the plots in the imaginary stories were silly, but I enjoyed them anyway.

Thanks! I wondered whom did his voice. May he and Bud Collier ( I hope I spelled his name right) both RIP! Sadly, I remember reading his obituary in the paper when Bud passed away. It was a stroke of genius having him do the voice of Superman since he did his voice on the Radio Program in the 1940's as well as the 1940's Paramount Cartoons, and having Joan Leslie do the voice of Lois Lane, since she also did the voice in the 1940's Cartoons, as well as I believe on radio!

This is a far cry from the amazing 1940s Superman series by Fleischer Studios, TV animation in the 60s didn’t get the budget earlier theatrical shorts got.

    • @Inflec
      @Inflec Год назад +1

Please, give some consideration for the constraints that the production team had to work within. With the tight budgets and schedules of television production those people had to endure they pulled off minor miracles getting these episodes and all the other programs out that Filmation was doing at that time. Consider: The Superman eps that these Superboy shorts complemented, plus the other programs -- Aquaman, Batman & Robin, Journey To The Center Of The Earth, Fantastic Voyage, The Hardy Boys, and The Archies. Even today I think the artwork and overall production values of these old toons is, at least for television, top notch. Of course there is no way that an animated TV program could compare to the level of work that was lavished on those dear old Fleischer presentations.
You may be surprised, if you look at the credits for both the Fleischer works and these Filmation episodes, that many of the same people worked on both projects, particularly the animators. Something to think about.

    12:07 Ah, I see, because it's "counterclockwise!" 9_9
Gotta love old-school comic-book pseudophysics. Because Mach One was so difficult to attain, it was dubbed "the sound barrier," so writers just plugged "time" in there and said if their spandex-wearing weirdo ran/flew/spun fast enough they could go through time the same way jets could...go through sound? Um. It was never explained how this technique was discovered, or how one actually emerged from Beyond the Time Barrier; one just DID. Sometimes this time-realm even came with Western-calendar years displayed in large numbers for helpful reference.
Some superheroes used different but equally implausible techniques; Batman and Robin visited the past frequently via hypnosis. Shazam! (Captain Marvel) could fly to the Rock of Eternity, from which he could access any point in time, which at least left the matter to pure magical fantasy.

I enjoyed these Saturday morning Superboy cartoons, and they bring back good memories! Maybe the plots were a little bit silly and contradicted Superman's continuity, but Iiked them just the same. I guess fans were less cynical back then. I remember this cartoon came out during the Superhero craze started when the Batman TV show came on tv. Also it could be said that the Superboy Comic went against Superman's past history, since he originally became Superman as an adult. But it didn't matter to me at all!

@ except this is exact message original Kents give to baby Clark in Superman #1 (1939).
To hide his powers and not scare folks, and only when he will grow up (i.e. be ready) to assist humanity with those powers.
    Proof : 2.bp.blogspot.com/ExcH1A-Imud7qSihJd9KwLDFi7fOGph9oFixvI1XDa458IMp0NpKgXIN0Oua_1Ch12PvZB9_UYbm=s1600
You telling me that people who created Superman didn't understand him?!
Also Clark in MoS IS NOT motivated by guilt. He didn't saved school bus, people on oil rig, prevented sexual harassment (in an ol'e Action Comics #1 way by smashing guys car afterwards), gave himself to Zod to protect humans, flew into Black Zero despite it being a potential death. All this because guilt? No! Because it's right thing to do. Because Perry White in the end when he failed to retreave Jenny is holding her hand, instead of running away. Because it's right thing.
