One suggestion I'll make to everyone, when you're finished with a solvent soaked rag, drape it over an edge of something so it is not in a pile. I drape them over the edge of the a metal garbage can. Spontaneous combustion is real and it's just not worth risking a shop building, tools, inventory, livelihood, or life (pet stuck in the shop) for just a moment's laziness. Great channel Andy. Keep up the helpful work for the whole community. I've forwarded a basic tune up video of yours to volunteers at the Bike Shacks I volunteer at, to help novices get more comfortable with processing bikes for sale. Really helpful information. Brilliant really. Keep riding.
Just picked up a Giant mountain bike for my neighbor. Ten bucks! Unbelievably nice bike once we tweak a few things. Gotta set a limit screw on the back I think so it stops popping over and off, but I'm sure we'll figure it out. I still can't believe it though, ten bucks!
I liked seeing you take the time to remove the howl of the rear brake. Good to know using granny gear and riding the brake to test it. Sanding with Emory cloth good trick. I'm learning a lot and enjoy your channel.
My 2000 Gary Fisher Tassajara is still going strong as a gravel/touring bike with Schwalbe Marathon tires, handlebar and stem swaps and asst touring racks/bags.
Great rebuild/tuneup. A lot of good content. Makes you realize that things do not always come out perfect the 1st time. Sometimes you need to go back and redo somethings. This even is true of someone like you a professional bike mechanic.
Another great one. Watched it during my breakfast and had to skip forward sometimes (because my breakfast only lasts so long). Loving it. What you do sets an example to how other bike shops should work: Repair, clean, save where possible, replace where necessary. Very sustainable. Keep up the good work!
I cant tell you how happy I am to hear that I have a chance to eliminate brake squeal without toeing my pads. I definitely prefer the snappy feel of flush pads and I enjoy toeing pads less than pretty much every other bike maintenance activity. I look forward to fixing those when my garage temp falls below 92 degrees.
And thank you for test riding before a customer gets it. I get the feeling you might be a rarity in that. My LBS put in new bottom bracket in my 90s bike. Now it can't shift to the smallest chainring even with the front derailleur limit screw set all the way inboard. Had they ridden it, they would have discovered that the spindle's drive side is too short. Thanks again for taking good care of your customers.
Tacos on me, hope I wasn’t too much of an asshole. Genuinely the first time I’ve commented on a video in years😂. Love the content, keep it up. Cheers, Spencer
I love your content! something i have realized is the spacers on the brakes are built around spring tension. The newer the brakes the wider. Nothing wrong with bringing the arms in but i do believe it will degrade the spring tension sooner
heyy bike farmer, i remember you mentioned bridgestone cb-1 on your bike donation vid. well guess what, i picked up that bike last week. right now im using upright handlebar and rides great as daily bike. thank you for your tips
Half the time I spend on bikes is spent looking for things I drop. I need a large floor tub, lighter colored, with a 3-4" lip that contains all of the dropped stuff so I can easily find it all.
@@dannyrc6216 I'm sure you're one of the exceptions to those folk who drop their chain above the cassette, damaging spokes. You probably always make sure your limit screws and cable slack are properly functional.
I almost wished I went with a rigid fork and some fenders. It makes for a perfect commuter bike...except the steel frame. I think commuters should be aluminum to avoid rust issues. It will sell faster as an MTB
Another cracking vid, the one thing that annoyed me was I feel like the derailleur cables should swap their cable stops/location. Just aesthetic ocd moment for me
I am frequently fixing up neighbors big box bikes and the 7 speed grip shifters are often needing to be replaced. What shifter would you recommend? I mainly want people out on their bikes as that makes everyone's lives better. I usually would say what my local bike shop carries but they have not had them in stock lately.
Love your channel! When you tune up a bike or rebuild one, I’ve never seen you check a chain (for stretch) or replace one. Just curious - why is this? *note- I haven’t seen ALL your videos so maybe I missed it. Thanks!
Nice video like always, I would like to ask about my brakes. theyre hydraulic but not installed correctly. brought it to a mechanic here in germany and he told me I would probably need adaptors.
Hey I love your content! I got a old cruiser bike with a metal post for the seat and it has seemed to seize is there anything I can do to free it or is it doomed?
How's it going, BikeFarmer. I liked and subscribed to your channel. I really like your content and the way you present it (and the occasional humor is also welcomed!). Question about old forks that use elastomer bumpers for springs -- I've seen replacement elastomer bumpers for sale online. Wouldn't this be a way to restore an old fork that uses them for springs? Back in the day, I think it was White Bros. and Mountain Speed and maybe 1 or 2 more companies who sold replacement SPRINGS as an upgrades to elastomer bumpers. I think maybe one of these companies still offer coil-over springs as elastomer bumper replacements? I've got a couple of vintage forks on vintage Specialized Stumpjumper hardtails that use Manitou and RockShox elastomer bumpers, so your video got me thinking about what to do if/when either fork's elastomers become trash. Thanks!
Helter skelter is also my favorite Beatles song for two simple reasons. 1- it’s the hardest hitting track the Beatles ever recorded and 2- “I got blisters on my fingers!”
I graduated from high school 1968, so the White Album I listened to a lot. I had forgotten about “I got blisters on my fingers!” Went back and looked at the song and it all came back. Thank for reminding me of those words. It was a classic Beatles album.
I just found a Trek 3500 in a dump the other day. I'm inpsired to give it a shot and revive it. Someone trashed the back wheel and derailleur. I got all the parts ordered. Amazon makes it possible these days.
Another great video. I know they arent your style but would be good to see you work on some disk brakes or opening up a suspension fork for a bit of servicing. I think watching you getting all pissed off trying to bleed some brakes would be entertaining.
@@bkefrmr i would also greatly enjoy a disk adjust video because of you i learned how to make my Giant Caliper breaks snappy. The Trekies love the bike farmer he's so close to corp. and speaks his mind.

Best trick with sticking shifters? WD-40, don’t know why, used to do speed degreaser and tri flow lube, Does not yield the best results. Only gives a good result if you use WD-40.

Well done
