- I don't think I've ever gotten treasures more perfect than the ones I got in this Duels run. Robes of the Apprentice and Khadgar's Scrying Orb were the absolute DREAM for this Lightshow build.

Honestly, I would totally watch a video in which Regis just brainstorms about a theoretical card game he would design, even if it is not intended to ever become real. I think it would be very insighftul, and with some mock-ups or cool ideas - neither of which I doubt Regis to be capable of coming up with - I think it'd also be very entertenaining.
You shouting out Triple Triad from FF8 made me love you.
Omg. Triple triad is a blast from the past. I spent hours playing that in FF8. Probably the main reason I love strategy and card games to this date.

I like how the first bucket Regis was like “What is this bucket??” And it ended up being pretty valuable 😂
To explain the Lei interaction. Framed was the first spell cast that turn. Lei was not on the field to see it so he can't copy it. Basically Lei on drop wiffs on any turn you cast a spell before playing him, since he has to see the first spell played to copy it.
you can see his animation go off on star power though, its literally just hard-coded against vexallus
Framed wouldn't trigger on any of those minion, the reason it didn't trigger it's more likely to be because even though they have different text they probably use the same function on the code under the hood, and it's one that doesn't stack.

Triple Triad is GOATED. By far the best mini-game final fantasy ever came up with.
48:37 I think the reason why it only cast twice is because lei was put down before vexallus, so lei copied the spell going off initially, however vexallus states it only goes off twice so it didnt cast it again. Maybe if vexallus was put down first and then lei it would have a different order so it would trigger 3 times?
vexallus was already on board before lei was played.
@@soulsedge6870youre right. Then it must be due to the frame being counted as the first spell.
You can hear Lei's voice line for the star power, so it must be the same trigger as vex and only doing 1 extra copy of the mana bolt

I think it's because of the framed was the first spell cast that turn so Lei doesnt trigger, but unsure. That or Lei is really coded to say "cast twice" but the card text says again.

My first PvP card game I got really into was Scrolls/Caller's Bane by Mojang. Sadly, right when I got enough cards to make my own deck that I was excited for, they announced the shut down of the servers within the next year. So I then got into Hearthstone and finally into Magic the Gathering and stuck with that one.
Lei wanted to copy the “overload 2” card because that was “the first spell this turn”. It does not say the first spell you cast, which is why you didn’t get the third proc. It would and does work
at 47:07 it looks like the lei flameplaw effect went off, so im assuming vexallus saw arcane bolt being cast twice and fizzled

On the topic of Triple Triad, I'd recommend checking out Creatures of Aether. I've never played Triple Triad, so I might be wrong, but CoA's HUD looks nearly identical to the screenshot shown.

dude that stupid 1/1 give your weapon 1 durability was surprisingly good, way better than stupid risa
reno hero power interactions reads as the first spell having spell damage, but in reality it’s gain spell damage until after you cast a spell. so, if any effects (vexalus and all that) trigger, they’ll also benefit from the spell damage. try it with a minions that casts spells!

Hey Regis, there's a game that expands on the same kind of game that triple triad is, it's called "creatures of aether", it's played on a 4x4 grid and cards have unique abilities that can do varying effects. It's no longer being updated, but it is free and the servers are still up, so maybe give it a look.
That's exactly the one I was talking about briefly in the video! I forgot the name, but I did try that out a couple years ago or so.
@@RegisKillbinDepending on how long ago you played it, they did add a sort of "draft" mode, with a shop/battle phase system similar to battlegrounds as one of their last updates, if you wanna take a look again. I personally had a hard time wrapping it around my head but other people seem to do fine with it.
If you want to play Triple Triad PVP you can go to FF14. There's a whole ladder and championship in there.

Lei tried to copy arcane bolt, the animation/voiceline went off but since vexallus already cast it again, that trigger was refunded as we see it try again for star power. Since there's no minions left at that point it doesnt cast then either. Whether that use would be "refunded" is another point, but vexallus and lei seem to both have the same effect so the one that takes less "resources" has priority is what I would assume

I absolutely enjoyed Triple Triad back in the day, but I think I enjoyed the FFIX card game Tetra Master a little more, in a way it felt like an evolved version of Triad to me.

I spent way to long spamming the left arrow key at the start of the video.
I am observing my tone and word usage with this, but I am irrationally angry at the slightest thing Regis said. I am paraphrasing, but it was the sentence, 'I don't want to play a card game nestled into another game'. Regis is wholly entitled to his subjective opinions, but I cannot disagree more.
Playing card games nestled into other games has been the only way I have been able to play card games these days. Why? I'm not too fond of the predatory monetization that all these games fall into, and when they avoid them, people tend to dislike the game such as Runeterra. Card games will always have at its heart a player base who loves being able to beat others with the power of money. The more cards you buy, the higher your chances of winning. Regis has said himself that most players care about winning. Corporations have preyed on this. Maybe I am only saying this because I have been playing through Witcher 3 and loving Gwent, but... I am so tired of this. It destroyed my love for Hearthstone, and I will never play Marvel Snap.
I am in the wrong here. There is nothing wrong with being able to play a card game standalone, but without the ability to gain cards by beating AI, then I just cannot bother. Sorry, I am sleeping on this video. Maybe I am just having a bad day.

You are conflating two things here and I'm getting the heat for it, my dude!
Saying I like card games to be dedicated PVP experiences is not a tacit endorsement of the greed that has historically accompanied them!! I don't want them to be crazy expensive.
But also, there are tons of amazing standalone PVE card games too that don't require a huge nested game commitment to get to the card stuff.
Slay the Spire, Arcanium, Griftlands are a few in a sea of dozens.
