    Thank you for documenting the removal of the bottom part, I almost went the way of another RUclipsr and destroyed it to make my own. Great work 👍🏾🤘🏾👌🏾

    FWIW, KEF tried to make the speaker 4ohm purely resistive using conjugate loading. There was also an active bass extension box called the KUBE.

    Thank you Larry for this excellent video. Made my 104/2 restoration/modifications so much easier. I've actually bypassed the Woofer section of the Crossover.I am running a miniDSP with the proper KUBE EQ direct into the refoamed (Donuts only) Cavity Coupled 8" Woofers. I added a second set of Binding Posts for just the two Woofers and replaced the thin crappy Speaker Wires with some 16AWG Speaker wire.
    About to replace the Ferrofluid on the Tweeter's today. I'll let you know how that goes.

    I remember listening to these back in the early 80’s at a local Hi-Fi shop. If I recall correctly they came with a small black box, the Kef Cube? an electronic device with a dial on it, it’s purpose unclear.

      The KEF Kube is a treble and bass control meant to be used as a tone control. Without the Kube, a Schiit Audio LOKI + will easily fill that role

    Some people change out the tweeter for another brand but I removed the dried up fluid inside the tweeter and added some new fluid and made them sound so much better. Fyi. I bought these used many years ago. Finding the fluid was a little difficult but I think eventually I got from the manufacturer for free.

    Hi Larry, my Kef 104/2 doesn't seem to have audible or same output for 100 hz in comparison to the other low tones, does this mean it is broken or is this expected?

      One speaker sounds different than the other? I would suspect the crossover may be the issue. Might be a bad capacitor.

      I can't imagine the rod not having a purpose that is beneficial to the sound in some way and can't imagine after going through all the trouble that I did, not returning it to it's original condition. But I suppose you could do as you suggest and may never hear a difference.

    Where did you get the caps from...I thought of Madison and how hard was matching the values?

    • @larrysmith7168
      @larrysmith7168  3 года назад +2

      My customer supplied the parts. I do seem to think Madison and ordered as a "kit". It's been years but I recall a couple were unable to be matched but the values were achieved by combining 2 caps together to reach the value of the
      one being replaced.

      Hi Mike! I own the speakers in Larry's video. The caps were purchased as a kit from Falcon Acoustics in England. The caps brand is Alcap.
