For a couple seconds, Dean looked genuinely concerned with Bing's sudden flee at the approach of Jerry Lewis. Around 40 seconds in he had an expression of almost-fear or embarrassment on his face, wasn't Bing one of his idols? I do notice that in times where Bing/Dean are singing together, Dean really blends his voice in with Bing, like it's almost difficult to differentiate who is singing, Bing or Dean. That's why I really like it when Frank and Dean sing together, Deam doesn't have to blend in with Sinatra and really takes advantage of his beautful vocal vibrato, and Sinatra does his thing, which is amazing every time.I'm young, but man, what classics
Variety Show I noticed that too. I know it was a comedy act, and Jerry was the more 'crazy' half of the duo, but an artist surely has to show some respect to other performers, but I feel that Jerry often went too far in his antics and didn't seem to know where to draw the line and rein it in. I'm sure there were quite a few times when Dean must have felt embarrassed by Jerry onstage, especially with such big and well-established (at the time) stars as Hope and Crosby. After all, they were a double act and the things that Jerry did would have reflected on Dean as his partner.

Beautiful stuff! Unique zany comedy gold. Priceless wit, talent and wonderful chemistry inducing a constant smile across my face. Robin William's was the only one who came close to Lewis's speed but no one could touch his unique high art slapstick except Keaton or Chaplin perhaps. I adored these two as a kid growing up in London and was never happier when their films came on my little black & white tv. This is one of my favourite Martin and Lewis videos on here, i must have watched this video dozens of times and it always makes me laugh. Very sad hearing that Jerry has passed away today. 🌹
Yes and here are more great things about him. He is prolific! The Not-So-Nutty Professor In addition to his varied entertainment, philanthropic and family responsibilities, Jerry has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California, where he taught a graduate course in film direction. The Total Film Maker, a book based on recordings of 480 hours of his classroom lectures, was published by Random House in 1971. And since the book hit the stands, it became mandatory reading in every university and film school in the United States, as well as Continental Europe. The Films of Jerry Lewis book is one of the most comprehensive studies of one man’s body of work in the motion picture industry. The “Real” Jerry Lewis Behind the pratfalls, the jokes and the public persona, Jerry Lewis is a devoted family man who always carries snapshots of his family in his pockets for luck. The entertainer has a daughter, Danielle, born in 1992, in addition to five sons - Gary, Ron, Scott, Chris and Anthony - and several grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A frequent MDA Telethon highlight is a performance by Jerry's number-one son and his band -- Gary Lewis and the Playboys -- and the Telethon cameras regularly catch Sam and Danielle sitting in their customary front row seats. It’s also no coincidence that the official Jerry Lewis Web site, www.jerrylewiscomedy.com, is hosted by Jerry’s son, Chris. Jerry is famous for his love of children, and the immense popularity he enjoys among them is hardly surprising. “I get paid for doing what children are punished for,” he reasons. “In doing this, I can help them get rid of their hostility quotient.” Or, as one 14-year-old fan put it: “Jerry is just a nice big kid who makes us laugh. Kids love him because he’s really one of us.” Jerry summed it up himself when he said - in response to the countless well-wishers who wrote to commemorate his 76th birthday in March 2002: “76? You got the birth date right, but the age is wrong! I’m only 9 … remember? Always have been, always will be.” The motto that best expresses Jerry’s ongoing love affair with humanity is this: “I shall pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.” --- Humanitarian Awards “Jerry Lewis is a man for all seasons, all people and all times. His name has, in the hearts of millions, become synonymous with peace, love, and brotherhood.” The late Secretary of Defense Les Aspin, then a congressman from Wisconsin, penned those words in 1977 in the conclusion of his nomination of Jerry for the Nobel Peace Prize. Never in the history of show business has an entertainer been so honored. In 1984, the government of France officially recognized that country's legendary admiration of Jerry Lewis by giving him its two most distinguished awards. First, Lewis was made a Commander in the Order of Arts and Letters, and was extolled by French Minister of Culture Jack Lang for his “human qualities and generosity. You are a child’s friend, and a model for adults.” Later that same year, Jerry was inducted into the Legion of Honor by the decree of President Francois Mitterand. Legion membership honors individuals whose accomplishments demonstrate extraordinary public service. Back in the United States, on June 8, 1985, the Defense Department presented Jerry with its highest civilian award - the Medal for Distinguished Public Service. The citation that accompanies the engraved gold medal reads, in part: “His service has had a profound effect on the youth of our country, on men and women in uniform today and their children, and on those children who shall one day serve our country in its defense.” In December 1996, the American Medical Association presented its Lifetime Achievement Awards to Jerry and MDA “for significant and lasting contributions to the health and welfare of humanity.” Jerry was honored for his decades of dedication to MDA, becoming only the fifth person in AMA history to receive this award. As National Chairman of MDA, Jerry has devoted two-thirds of his lifetime to the effort to eradicate neuromuscular diseases. His unflagging, year-round work for this cause has endeared him to millions. Under Jerry’s leadership, the Association has been - and will continue to be - the recognized leader in the worldwide fight against these diseases. Legendary Entertainer One of the most successful performers in show business - with worldwide box office gross receipts of his films in excess of $800 million - Jerry Lewis has received global acclaim for his unique ability and style with both comedy and drama. Best known for his comedic genius, he's considered among the elite in the history of comedy. He has an exceptional feel for comic timing and possesses all the other unique qualities of a great clown. Critic Harriet Van Horne described Jerry’s screen persona as “a sort of witless genius,” while Hollywood director Leo McCarey called Lewis “the Pied Piper of the business, the heir to the mantle of Charlie Chaplin and Harold Lloyd.” In 1991, Jerry received two impressive honors as the show business industry recognized his lifetime of achievement. On January 13, he received the Comic Life Achievement Award during cable television’s annual ACE Awards. The National Association of Broadcasters paid tribute to Jerry by inducting him into the Broadcast Hall of Fame on April 17. Jerry was inducted into the International Humor Hall of Fame in 1992. And on February 22, 1998, Jerry received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Comedy Hall of Fame. In 1999, legendary film director Martin Scorsese presented Jerry Lewis with a career Golden Lion award at the Venice International Film Festival. Lewis was honored as “an extraordinary example of the total filmmaker: scriptwriter, director and protagonist of his films, therefore fully responsible for his work.” He kept giving and giving and giving to us. He loved so much. We are so grateful to him and his life. POSITIVE CRITICS ON JERRY LEWIS Not always. Exhibit A from 1950: "For all its madness, there is method in the Lewis artistry. If he mugs outrageously and takes stage falls with an elementary aplomb, his antics are seasoned by a real sense of the comic and a rare appreciation of the non sequitur." --Jack Gould, The New York Times, 9/18/1950 Sixty-five years later, here's Exhibit B: Lewis is an artistic genius of visual and scenographic inventiveness, comic fury, technical originality, and philosophical perspective; but he’s also a furious, reckless, regressive, id-plumbing revealer of the depths of his character by way of demands on his body. And this full-spectrum artistic commitment - from the ideal to the carnal, from the sophisticated to the crude, from the pursuit of an artistic conception to the force and price of personal drive and desire - is his crucial connection to, and inspiration of, the new world of young filmmakers. -- Richard Brody, The New Yorker 10/8/15 ----- Positive critics/evaluation -Long great article appreciating everything jerry Lewis www.criterion.com/current/posts/4845-jerry-lewis-1926-2017

This is an interesting clip because Jerry said in an interview that Bing Crosby disappeared and would not interact with him and Dean because he was afraid Jerry would muss him up and do physical cut-ups at his expense. Jerry was irate because Bing did not know enough to realize Jerry had too much respect for him to do such. He always held this against Bing.
Did Bing Crosby accuse Jerry Lewis of trying to rip off his toupee , or did he actually do so ? Because I heard that's why he went off stage during this show , and didn't talk to or see Jerry Lewis for the next twenty something years .
Bing was a star decades before Jerry. I love Jerry Lewis BUT he had a mean side to him and off stage could be nasty. Yes, I was around him in person a handful of times and it was buyer beware. I really can't blame Bing for being careful. RIP to these great stars. Your videos are GREAT.

Jerry Lewis is and always will be the BEST comedian!! This video was made many years before I was born but grew up loving watching Jerry.
You just transported me back and nothing's changed watching these two .. and yet everything's changed. Gratitude for uploading all on your neat channel, from a Brit in Toronto .
This is one of my favourite Martin and Lewis videos on here, i must have watched this video dozens of times and it always makes me laugh. Very sad hearing that Jerry has passed away today. 🌹
Yes and here are more great things about him. He is prolific!
The Not-So-Nutty Professor
In addition to his varied entertainment, philanthropic and family responsibilities, Jerry has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California, where he taught a graduate course in film direction.
The “Real” Jerry Lewis
Behind the pratfalls, the jokes and the public persona, Jerry Lewis is a devoted family man who always carries snapshots of his family in his pockets for luck.
Kids love him because he’s really one of us.”
Jerry summed it up himself when he said - in response to the countless well-wishers who wrote to commemorate his 76th birthday in March 2002: “76? You got the birth date right, but the age is wrong! I’m only 9 … remember? Always have been, always will be.”
The motto that best expresses Jerry’s ongoing love affair with humanity is this: “I shall pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”

Humanitarian Awards
“Jerry Lewis is a man for all seasons, all people and all times.
The citation that accompanies the engraved gold medal reads, in part: “His service has had a profound effect on the youth of our country, on men and women in uniform today and their children, and on those children who shall one day serve our country in its defense.”
In December 1996, the American Medical Association presented its Lifetime Achievement Awards to Jerry and MDA “for significant and lasting contributions to the health and welfare of humanity.” Jerry was honored for his decades of dedication to MDA, becoming only the fifth person in AMA history to receive this award.
Legendary Entertainer
One of the most successful performers in show business - with worldwide box office gross receipts of his films in excess of $800 million - Jerry Lewis has received global acclaim for his unique ability and style with both comedy and drama. Best known for his comedic genius, he's considered among the elite in the history of comedy. He has an exceptional feel for comic timing and possesses all the other unique qualities of a great clown. Critic Harriet Van Horne described Jerry’s screen persona as “a sort of witless genius,” while Hollywood director Leo McCarey called Lewis “the Pied Piper of the business, the heir to the mantle of Charlie Chaplin and Harold Lloyd.”
In 1991, Jerry received two impressive honors as the show business industry recognized his lifetime of achievement.
Lewis was honored as “an extraordinary example of the total filmmaker: scriptwriter, director and protagonist of his films, therefore fully responsible for his work.”
He kept giving and giving and giving to us. He loved so much. We are so grateful to him and his life.
POSITIVE CRITICS ON JERRY LEWIS
Not always. Exhibit A from 1950:
"For all its madness, there is method in the Lewis artistry. If he mugs outrageously and takes stage falls with an elementary aplomb, his antics are seasoned by a real sense of the comic and a rare appreciation of the non sequitur." --Jack Gould, The New York Times, 9/18/1950

Sixty-five years later, here's Exhibit B:
Lewis is an artistic genius of visual and scenographic inventiveness, comic fury, technical originality, and philosophical perspective; but he’s also a furious, reckless, regressive, id-plumbing revealer of the depths of his character by way of demands on his body. And this full-spectrum artistic commitment - from the ideal to the carnal, from the sophisticated to the crude, from the pursuit of an artistic conception to the force and price of personal drive and desire - is his crucial connection to, and inspiration of, the new world of young filmmakers. -- Richard Brody, The New Yorker 10/8/15

Wonderful! I'm so thrilled when these old videos show up. So much of that time wasn't filmed or recorded and it is such a loss of history. I never got to go to a show-wasn't into Dean back then. Can see why he eventually had to leave this partnership though. Now, I am a total Dean Martin fan. and love catching these videos so much! Read the book Memories are made of this by his daughter Deana.. I did get to see Vegas when I was about 17 before they took the great places like the Sands down.
Holy crap, that is so out there. Why can’t anybody improvise like that now?
Lewis was quick, very bright, but not always easy to be around, arrogant.
Robin Williams and Jim Carrey come to mind. They honor Jerry in their acts.
God! I love Jerry! He is a force of nature! Love you so much Jer
Dean had such a beautiful voice. Jerry is hysterical
How could anyone not love Dean Martin.
I genuinely think someone who doesnt love dean must be insane. Hes the best
this truly is awesome footage...they had me in tears laughing but it showed here that Dean and Jerry really were the best of friends cracking each other up while the audience had fun with em...thank you so much for posting!

Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis at the Copacabana New York City 3 February 1954 Part 1 of 4
Can't stop smiling, must play in all hospitals and nursing homes
That's a winner idea! Mwaah!
That would kill people
Warum gibt es solche Typen nicht mehr? Es ist zu schade.
I think it's hilarious that Bob Hope and Bing Crosby were scared of these two because of their wildness especially Jerry!
I can't tell you how much I appreciate you posting this. Could watch this kind of entertainment all night. M & L together or solo among the funniest men that ever lived!!!

The energy they had at ages 26 and 35 is insane. I can't imagine doing such a high energy act for 10 years and at this point they were going on year 6.
it's unbelievable chemistry, commitment and innovation. I agree!

From Italy , Jerry Lewis is the BEST, is Amazing ...also Great Dean Martin
This was absolutely priceless! Thank you so much for sharing this clip.
'They heard you, it wasn't funny" lol xD
Keep the memory of Martin & Lewis alive ;)
Jerry Lewis manages to slip in "Leonard Barr" in his shout-out, who was not only a comedian, but Dean Martin's uncle. You can see him in "Diamonds Are Forever".
The Sting too
I loved Leonard Barr's impression of Mark Spitz!
Love watching these two fabulous gentlemen work together. They are the best team ever.. Dean and Jerry together or a part are just pure heaven :)
Definitely this is entertainment you can tell a lot of work went into this. This is not from my generation, but it is truly a funny act and the chemistry between Dean and Jerry is excellent.
HOLY JESUS!
How many hours of unseen Jerry you have???
THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU! \o/
No man ever sported a pinkie ring better than Dean.
Old School Muscle I’ve often wondered why so many entertainers of that era wore those pinkie rings. Was it an American thing, something to do with a show business charity like the British Grand Order of Water Rats (whose members have to wear a small lapel pin), or just a fashion of the time?
Fun fact: dean and frank have matching pinkie rings!
Yes, I agree; you can see why the two of them were such a perfect team. Incredible energy.
SO HILARIOUS! Thank you for sharing this. Laughed several times, very enjoyable :D
This is a precious clip. Thanks so much for uploading!
I love both of them so much, but I've adored Jerry since I was a kid. They worked amazingly well together
I love Jerry Lewis. They don't make talent like this anymore.
Amen to that!

Yes !Jerry was one of a kind! Such a wonderfully unique man! I LOVE HIM!!!
I just adore these guys, I can only imagine how much more of an impact it would of been back in the day although not sure how much of the population had tv sets either.
Dean Martin was a great singer and performer,
he did a perfect Al Jolson impression in this video for a few seconds.
sherbuy When he was with the Rat Pack Dean also did good impressions of Cary Grant, and Clark Gable as Rhett Butler in 'Gone With The Wind'
Oh my word....the section of commercial jingles...so when I was little we had DVDs of Abbott and Costello where they had the original commercials played between sketches...so hearing those songs brought back such memories!! ☺️
💐💐 I love Dean Martin💐💐 you are the best singer
man they owned this show,.,
thanks a lot for uploading this! :)
Not easy playing the straightman to a comic genius. Great reflection of what good humor is.
Dean's voice is melted chocolate
It’s really fun watching the band. They are cracking up.
This is great, thank you so much!
People say nasty things about Jerry Lewis but man, could he ever dominate an audience.
Apparently a real bad dad and hubby
Jerry was the KING OF COMEDY. Period.
Reality, Levi's a very kind man, just hid under all his pranks.💜💜🇩🇰🦅💌
3:40 "...when your smiling from that wonderful movie The Bicycle Seat." Oh my...he really said that...lol.
AHAHAHA! Jerry references Vittorio DeSica! :) Thanks for your hilarious comment!
He said The Bicycle Thief
Bicycle Thief
5:42 Dino does a quick Al Jolson imitation.
Priceless.
I LOVE Dean and Martin, thank you.
@Mary Cage. My understanding is that the reason Bing wouldn't appear is that he wore a toupee. After he saw Lewis rubbing Hope's head he was afraid of the embarrassment of losing the hairpiece.
That is precisely correct! :) Thanks for tuning in. :)
Luke Sacher
(Cinematographer/Editor/Writer, 1996 A&E Biography of Jerry Lewis, 1999 Biography of The Rat Pack)
Actually,, Bing was too busy slapping one of his kids around.
bashbrannigan This led to a feud between Crosby and Lewis because you're right that Bing was concerned that Jerry would pull off his toupee'.
bashbrannigan 😂 Jerry should’ve kept going with Bing and the hairpiece. Jerry could have been an Indian for a few mins.
Bing went out without his toupee many times. I just think he was too smart to mix with young Jerry.
Yo creo que hasta hoy (2020) serían un éxito estos dos. Y además son dos genios que hacían buena música, buenas actuaciones, y buena comedia. A mí me gustan estos dos.
This is just hilarious. As performers this was an incredible team.
Thanks for the laughs
Most welcome, and thanks for watching!
We have lots and lots of rare and unique Dean and Jerry stuff on our channel uploads page- take a look, and I bet you'll find some stuff that you'll like.

and the 1999 Biography of the Rat Pack.
we have lots and lots of terrific M&L and Jerry and Rat Pack clips on our channel, please take a look around and you'll find great stuff!
Perfect duo.Inimitable and original.
You'll be such best friends to be this close with each other. This is bromance and I like watching this!!
Jerry was out of control. Funny as hell.
Offstage. Bing sourpuss
Did Bing Crosby accuse Jerry Lewis of trying to rip off his toupee , or did he actually do so ? Because I heard that's why he went off stage during this show , and didn't talk to or see Jerry Lewis for the next twenty something years .
This was before my time. I was born in 1955
I was born in 1960, but these guys were the kings of entertainment until 1970. It was the best era ever IMHO.
lol Dirty pictures 6:55
"AAAAUUGH!" 9:12
inappropriate touching 9:52
These two are bomb!
"Better hurry up. They're staring."
Bing ran away becauze he was afraid Jerry would pull off hiz toupee.
Yep! Thanks for tuning in.
Great for summing that up.
once he saw the mood jerry was in.lol. yeah he ran out of there.
Jerry Lewis was not that funny .
I don’t blame him. Lewis was grabbing him about the head.
I've always said Lewis's "The Nutty Professor" was one of the best comedy films ever made.
these guys were brilliant !
The Dean Martin "Matt Helm" films are the coolest movies ever!
"They heard you, it wasn't funny"
Oh my god Jerry was so fuckin quick.
