- A study by a Home Affairs review panel revealed this week that the department issued 45,000 fraudulent visas in the period between 2014 and June 2021.
The panel further expressed concern that the number could be higher, as its findings were only provisional.
Home Affairs Minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, explains what the department plans to do about the latest revelations.

What we need to ask ourselves as South Africans is why do we have so many officials willing to sell our country’s sovereignty for money. There are corrupt officials in many other countries but why do we have so many in the system, it seems home affairs department is a corruption syndicate.
I’ve lived in 3 countries abroad, from the immigration officials at the airport, police on the streets and residency and citizenship officials, everyone is doing their best to protect their countries from incursion. But in SA it seems officials are not the first line of defense, they’re helping people invade our country.
African chiefs were selling their tribes to slave lordships for valuables....its an ancient pandemic...

Minister, I love the work that you are doing, but please, reverse the fraudulent documents, then come and tell the public, all the people you laid charges against, and the number of people with fraudulent visa's who were deported. We want actionable results not research. But keep up the good work.

Nigerians come any which way they can. I encountered a large group moving through Botswana about 3 years ago. Many just fly in apparently.
@@jameskillu9171 Nigerians comes as tourists and never go back, thats what makes them illegal migrants. The moment you revoke your date of return you automatically becomes illegal immigrants. Only if they can apply the correct visa that allows them to stay here it will be better. And then we have those ones who come via the Lesotho and Botswana border who don't even have a tourists visa

Minister, pls go as far back as 1994. One day I was travelling from Dubai to Mzansi, there were many West Africans who were flaunting their SA Passports. I was very shocked by the way they were behaving.

This is so true, I recall seeing an old nigerian man probably same age as the Dr himself with an afrikaaner surname on his passport I was shocked. You'd be sickened if you saw what happens at OR Tambo arrival custom posts at the airport. Not all those employees are clean either

Minister, you should inform the immigration offices abroad if you find a foreign national who immigrated using that dodgy Sa passport,. In the UK they will revoke any status that person has if they used fraudulent documents.
systems are not free. and the creators keeps their patent rights. what is the cost. it could be billions. then data is gold where does the data goes or how secure. is this data going to be used agaist us in pandemiks .is it not another English project. Zim opposition patirs were promised similar system ... the coo next door was 15million pounds . 2017. and Mugabe checked out.

No wonder why the "developed" countries don't easily allow people from SA, and why we don't have visa free access to the more countries.
And also reason Ryanair introduced the Afrikaans pre-test before you board their flight.
They realised South African passport are carried fraudulently by imposters.
What "may" also help is to inform the ordinary masses/public by running ads on all media platforms informing the less knowledgeable on what the crises and predicaments are when you sell your identity for a quick buck.
And as for the home affairs employees that get caught, since they wont face jail time, at least let them get blacklisted from any future employment for the same period credit bureau does to people out there. Perhaps people will stop this nonsense.

It's way more, far more than that. And whoever issued those fraudulent permits should face multiple charges. And yes, there's a huge ground work that needs to be covered, the damage is just humongous. There's no error here, they did on purpose, they've been bribed, they've been taking an advantage of this loophole in the DHA information management system to commit criminal activities, they have committed a crime and must be heavily charged accordingly.
The minister of home affairs is fair by listening to his video explanations continue to clean your house, the system was corrupted by your previous home affairs ministers

This tells me that home affairs should maybe hire people who are mostly middle class and up, because they will be less easy to bribe. And more govt places should hire people of different races, not just black. We're at the point where we must just be real, because siyazi ukuthi abakithi seem to easily be bribed. It is what it is!
@@macksetlau9409 In a way, yes... Because poverty does lead some people to doing things out of desperation. I know there's corrupt people at all levels(i. E. Even our govt with their lavish lifestyles), but I think coming from poverty increases the likelihood of someone accepting bribes.

The problem is visas at home affairs does no longer comes out anymore as the law discribe.It doesn't matter whether you are qualified for them and tick all the requirement boxes. Thats the reasons ppl hv resort to corruption.Maybe the minister should make his department efficient

I met 4 people, it was two couples in the UK 2007. They told me they left Nigeria to South Africa within two weeks they had required South African passports and they used those passports to go to the UK. To this day they are still there.

The problem is not the people with permits, the problem is the people without, how are we solving the fight for the people without permits, because people with permits are mostly the ones paying taxes, have bank accounts, home loans and car loans and contribute to the economy. The ones without are the problem.
Mr Mdluli I am sitting with a manual death certificate of my late father who died 2001 when there was NO computers , I went to home affair and no solution until today because of this corruption on their records my late father is still alive with other Id document ( help will be appreciated pls).

The day I saw cellphone shops owned by Pakistans mushrooming in every corner I got worried, the day I saw our beautiful streets covered with clothes hanging on every side by Nigerians and Zimbabweans I knew something was not right.
