- The Selfish Gene is one of the most influential books on Evolutionary Biology in history. Written by Richard Dawkins, the book shows us that we are just big lumbering robots whose purpose is to pass on genes. The gene itself sometimes generates selfish behaviour of the animal it inhabits. But it can also use altruistic behaviour, even sacrifice itself on the behalf of family who may share the same genes. In this episode we look evolution, competition, human purpose and memes.
Note to myself: Starts from 2:42

Thanks for this brilliant. I've learnt so much. Great!!
Selfishness is the fundamental component of survival that's what Origin of the species was all about
39:57 *"MEMES, THE DNA OF THE SOUL!"*
THE MEMES JACK !
before the word meme was hijacked and became synonim with "joke". memes are still a thing, you're seeing lots in your own daily life.
@@midorifox I know. I took this phrase from the monologue of a videogame character about ideas controlling people. But this phrase became a meme as well.
@@simulacrum1824 yeah, mgr, during monsoon's pre-fight monologue. It's great because it introduced a few kids to the book
I wonder if Richard Dawkins has played Metal Gear Rising? But i liked the explanation that even worthless part of a culture can spread. If you compare Woodrow Wilson, the idea of Social Control, monetary racism, centralization... nonetheless, America 2022, here we still are. Its why i like this book so much, it explains lot of human psychology work in lots of ways
Is this the full audio book ?
The back&forth between these guys reminds me of the Ricky Gervais cartoon series
Is their a full audiobook on RUclips ?
34:34 Crass indeed!!!! Just shove it in there!!!
This is a great exchange. I love it.
A artificial intelligence told me to read this book
in the book Dawkins states that it is a speculation, but probably not very far from the truth, when he talks abouth abiogenesis...
this video was really cool.
Thanks for sharing
my parents have never passed on any jeans to me. I wear strictly khakis.
That usually hems one in as far as life choices.
Ah. haha
🤭
Memes are Based
Those who want to believe in evolution will be drawn to information like this.
Before they start to look into the writings of Dawkins, Darwin etc they will already be believers.
It’s called conformation bias, and if you refuse the ideology you are cast off as ignorant fools.
That is the teachings of eveolution.
RD
lol, i fouind it randomly in an online game
Read the book in paper form.
I agree!!! Pulp is good for your gut.

Note to WOKE generation : you won’t like this 😆
"We have thousands of atoms but not enough then to make an atom" 😂😂😂..! That's what one of these clowns said. When the other genuinly doesn't know the difference between a Eagle and a crow! Give this analysis a miss people, the books way, way ahead of their intellect to comment on it!
What if he's imagining the distant past, when the "replicator" was in its infancy. Although it has many ATOMS, there aren't enough yet to build an ADAM. It's better to pay attention, but, if you can't, please don't criticize
@@refuse2Btools he cant pronounce Adam properly aswell then! Oh dear!!
That's pretty harsh. You didn't put an apostrophe in the word can't. You also made one word out of as well. Are you to be disregarded?
@@refuse2Btools "cant" is a completely different word than "can't"...However anyone with just a smither knowledge of Englisgh grammar would realise that aswell would in all probabilty, mean as well.... Anyway (or is it any way ha! ha!) keep reading "The Selfish Gene") an incredible piece of scientific work. "Outstanding" !!!
One of the best books I have ever read is "the minds I" Douglas Hofstadter and Daniel Dennett. Brilliant collection of essays. As a side note, although I live in Canada now, I was born in England and am still a British citizen. I have a fairly good grasp of the English language
