The final redesigned generation of the Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight coincided with its 50th anniversary in 1991. The added length, rear fender skirts, wide tail, low nose, and split-grille with wraparound headlights gave this generation Ninety-Eight a far more distinctive appearance than its predecessor. Designers of the Ninety-Eight wanted to create a distinctive luxury car look that buyers would not confuse with a similar Buick or Pontiac sedan.[26] The final generation of the Ninety-Eight would also prove to be the shortest, seeing its last year in 1996.

Although wheelbase was unchanged from the previous generation, overall length increased by over 9 inches (229 mm).[27] Most of this extra space was added to the rear of the car, resulting in a larger trunk. Although throughout the model years names of the trim levels changed, the final generation Ninety-Eight was available in two main models: the traditional luxury-oriented Regency models and the performance-oriented Touring models. Regency models included 6-passenger seating in either velour or leather, column shifter, and the 170 horsepower (130 kW) 3.8 L Buick V6. Touring models featured the FE3 suspension package, a 205 hp (upped to 225 hp in 1994) supercharged version of the standard 3.8 L Buick V6, 18 gallon fuel tank, 16-inch wheels, and standard 5-passenger leather seating designed by Lear Seating.

With the introduction of the Aurora a year earlier, the Ninety-Eight was discontinued for 1996, ending production on May 31.[28] To fill the void, two Eighty-Eight relatives -- the Regency and the LSS -- were introduced. The sporty LSS featured the steel front fenders, while the more stately and traditional Regency 88's had the carryover GTX-composite (plastic) fenders from the 1996 Ninety Eight. The LSS model proved more popular to buyers than the Regency during the 1997-98 model years.

What killed Oldsmobile they put out ugly shit like the Aurora MSRP $36,990 with the Shitty North Star Cadillac V-8 Head Gasket 6000.00 to fix and they all leaked oil and but ass ugly, and the butt ass ugly Acheiva. They got rid of the Cutlass Cirea which was popular among small families on a budget 9995.00 new. Then in 1998 they killed the 98 MSRP $28,995 and a year later they killed the Delta 88 MSRP $18,995 . These cars were what Olds was known for.

That's one of the best cars you've ever had. The originality of it, the features & options and still looking like a proper good American car (to my mind).
You'll sell it quick for sure.

I had a 1993 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Base the same color brought with 79,000 miles and drove it till 249,000 miles. I drove from Pittsburgh PA to Peoria IL on one tank of Premium 93 octane gas got 41.5 MPG on that 3800 series V-6. These are very indictable cars mine lasted 8 years. The only major problems I had were the transmission, water pump and Pass Key system replaced that was all, and it made 6 600 mile trips every year never broke down once and never used any fluids or oil. I wish I could find another great Oldsmobile 98. Nathan you should keep this these are great cars and cheap to work on and excellent on gas.

My grandparents use to own a black metallic 1991 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Regency Elite with the 50th Anniversary Gold Edition package. Which reminds me, there is a an Anniversary Gold Edition package for the 1991 model year. Not to mention that 1991 marks the year Oldsmobile celebrates the Ninety Eight’s 50th Anniversary.

Gorgeous luxury sporty car. Olds should've attached the old Starfire name to this version of the 98.

there sure are a lot of buttons in this car but I like them better than all this touch screen BS on new cars. It seems like GM made this car to be convenient in 1991 unlike today where manufacturers make higher-end and even some low-end everyday cars to be as complex and computerized as possible. Despite a few little things on the interior needing fixing, this thing is still in unbelievable shape for a 1991, and this would be one of the first cars I would park in the showroom.

Gosh this is a sexy car. For some reason I equivolate this to what a CT6 is today. I think if there was a 2017 Olds 98, it'd basically be a Cadillac CT6. Very nice. They just have that same presence, in my opinion.

I like these cars not only because they,re 98s but also because they,re the best project car you ever own and you do upgrades to the engine, such as this car came with a 170 hp L27 3800 engine, a better upgrade 205 hp L36 series 2, will almost make you feel like you,re driving a 76 98 with bucket seats, technology with class.

My parents moved from Rhode Island with us kids in 1996 and the money they got from the house me and my brother and sister were born in in Rhode Island some of it went to buying a new car( for us anyway) it was the 1990 Bonneville SSE with all the bells and whistles we had it almost 10 years till 2005, it's still ran but it had to have two alternators in the new door because my dad went down a back road following my grandfather's truck and slid down a hill denting in the driver's side door when he got a gray one from a similar model car but it never fully the electronics never fully worked right again, but when we got rid of that car 2005 it still ran I kind of wish did I asked my dad to put it on the back of the property and I could have had it as my first car but I was only 14 or 15 at the time so I didn't really think about that back then, even though that was about 20 years ago and I'm in my mid-thirties now I still think it's one of the best cars our family had one of the most reliable and that 3800 engine that GM made for Pontiacs Buicks Chevys and Oldsmobiles is still considered one of the best engines GM put in their 1980s and 1990s cars it's just about the most reliable engine from that time period other than a vortec.

Oldsmobile design went downhill beginning in the mid 80s. This 98 may be in good condition but the design imo reflects why Oldsmobile met its demise. Oldsmobile's last best years were in the mid 60s to early 70s with a reprieve in the early to mid 80s full size models. Beginning with the 1985 smaller 88s and 98s, they just didn't do well into the early 90s. The rest is history.
