Today I reacted to Judas by Fozzy from the album Judas. As always, this was my first time hearing this song, so my reaction is genuine, but Fozzy has been on my radar for quite some time as I have loved Chris Jericho since his WCW days when I was a kid. I even met him in my twenties while I was dressed as Princess Zelda and had him sign my chest - check out my post on my community page here for the picture! I have no idea why it has taken me so long to check them out, but I suppose everything happens for a reason and timing is always perfect whether we like the wait or not. This song has a powerful message about addiction and mental health, at least from where I'm standing.

Jericho is such an inspiration. When he was a kid, he said he wanted to do two things in his life, be a wrestler and be in a rock band. This just goes to show you what you can do, when you work HARD to accomplish your dreams. You too can be a star, you just have to want to.

Yo Amanda, never listen to your podcast before but I'm a huge fuzzy fan. While looking through fozzie's stuff I saw that you were doing a review on Judas. Your review was absolutely fantastic the emotions that you were giving during the review really touched my heart. I'm 57 years old and I've been fortunate enough to not have gone through mental illness or any kind of crazy struggles in that respect. I am however very akin to problems of mental illness with many of friends and family members. I just wanted to reach out and tell you how much I enjoyed your review of it your reflection and understanding of The lyrics and I truly can feel the emotion that it stirs in you. As of today I have subscribed to you or channel. I look forward to following you along on your journey. I hope you stay well I hope that the Lord Jesus Christ blessed you and I hope you get everything out of life that we all deserve but don't always reach out and obtain.

Been down a similar path as you and its really nice to hear someone like bring awareness to mental stuff. When I was growing up it was a stigma yknow like I didnt know anything was even wrong with me till I was 25 cause till then I just drank myself to numbness to self medicate or whatever. Blessed to have moved away from that even if its not how I hoped or imagined. You seem like an awesome person, glad you're around to share your strength. Thanks for the reaction.

I've watched this video so many times, but it was this time that I realized his self absorption that paid no attention to the chaos behind him. Given the theme of the song it makes so much sense, we get caught up in our own demons and ignore the things around us both good and bad. Subtle but powerful way to portray that if if was the intent.

Since you haven't heard this song before, I assume you don't know, that Chris Jericho uses it as his entrance music in AEW (All Elite Wrestling). It's a fan favorite, the audience usually sings along and when he has arrived in the ring they cut the song off before the chorus so you can only hear the audience singing it.
On yesterday's Dynamite show (August 18th 2021), Jericho wrestled in the main event. His heel opponent had enforced the stipulation, that Jericho couldn't come out with music to dampen the support of the audience. Of course this was a sweet way of the promotion to nudge the audience to show their actual support. So when Jericho appeared with pyro but otherwise just silence, the whole audience in the arena did an a capella version of Judas from the 1st verse to the chorus. You can easily find clips of it on RUclips. Jericho himself uploaded a clip and commented, that the audience singing his song yesterday was 1 of his greatest moments of his career.

@@MentalAmanda You said AWA. Do you mean the American Wrestling Association, that shut its doors in 1991? Or was that a typo? Because AEW is a new promotion that was founded in 2019 and is now considered the second largest professional wrestling promotion in the United States and the second largest professional wrestling promotion in the world behind WWE. Chris Jericho is one of the main factors the promotion established itself with over the last years, because he's a big name that also helps putting over young talent. You can watch their weekly shows on TNT, where WCW used to be. Also, I don't know if the wrestler CM Punk means anything to you or your father. But if that's the case, you may want to be on the lookout for AEW Rampage on this Friday evening. It's rumored that he will be coming back.

@@MentalAmanda Ah, ok. Last thing for now, as I don't want to pester you with this topic. Wrestling is actually another subculture where the topic of mental health and (un)healthy work environments can be explored. AEW is also garnering the reputation of being a workplace where the performers can show their talents to the fullest as they are supported by their colleagues AND the management to bring the best out of each other and try for variety and long term story telling. That makes me as a fan very happy, as I come to know them not just as their on stage characters but as real life people with a myriad of hopeful stories to tell. Wrestling doesn't have the best of reputations with the general public and in certain aspects sadly rightfully so. Fortunately one step at a time this seems to change.
I mean, hell, Sting was wrestling Wednesday evening, too. The man is 62, but can still do impressive things with the right people around him to hide his limitations and showcase his abilities.

As someone who used to recklessly hurt people, I struggle with thoughts that I’m still doing it unconsciously now that I’m making conscious efforts not to. It may not be healthy, but the thing I have to remind myself is that everything a human being does is their own choice. From the relationships they keep (even with me) to the job they have, literally everything. I may influence the decision but the decision is ultimately theirs and I am not responsible for the decisions of others. I am responsible for my decisions. I can’t let myself live and die on the decisions others make. Of course I make constant efforts to not hurt others but I focus on things I can control and that focused energy is stronger than when I’m spreading myself too thin.
I’ll pray for you that you continue to improve and come to forgive yourself. I believe in you.
PS: Wrestling was what got me through my depression in the last 90s, at the height of the Monday Night War. Living Monday to Monday was much easier than living day to day. As bad as wrestling can get, I’m a fan “4 life”.

WCW is what bonded me with my dad (which I talk about in my Eric Bischoff interview) and the NWO/WCW war is how my best friend and I met way back in 7th grade. I was an outcast and it helped me feel like I was part of something. I have the same tendency to inadvertantly hurt people, but I'm learning now that all I can do is frequently ask myself, "What is the loving decision for all involved?"

Something interesting about the whole Judas mythos that this song doesn't touch on but could potentially change how you view the meaning. Judas isn't the only person that betrays Jesus - however, he's the only person that both betrays Jesus and marks him (the kiss). Additionally Jesus foresaw his own betrayal and permitted it according to both John and Matthew. If Chris Jericho were actually portraying the same role as Judas in a relationship the "you" the lyrics refer to is someone who is aware of the situation and actively does nothing to stop their own betrayal.

My brother self deleted in 2017, my grandmother died in 2022, my father died in 2023. My mother tried following him, I stopped her because there are things to live for. All the family we helped, 98% did not help. I am thinking of doing what my brother did. For the reason my mother doesn’t trust me, or the people who help her. But she trusts those who always betray her. I won’t. But I am close

I believe all those who are not narcissistic or suffering from some psychopathology (such as sociopathy or psychopathy) have this instinct to help people in need. The only problem is that people don't always need help ... sometimes when someone wants to talk to us, it's not because they want advice, but simply because they want to get some pebbles off their shoes and let off steam. Distinguishing things isn't easy, but when someone talks to you you can ask if they need advice or if they just wanted to expose a problem that's just rhetorical in their head.

    • @MentalAmanda
      @MentalAmanda  3 года назад

This is SO accurate! There are many times where I just want to be held and validated and maybe reassured. I don't want you to try to solve my problems, I will figure them out! Just fill my bucket so I have the strength to do so!

I cant help but hear “Break the wall DOOOOOWN !!” In my head, from WWF.
That wasn’t you back then. Only your body being controlled by an evil, narcissistic puppet master. The exact opposite of you. You were strong enough to carry that huge pair if scissors, and cut the strings. That’s all that matters now. I hit rock bottom on my sons fifth birthday. I understand that feeling. Know it wasn’t you and forgive yourself. Only then can you move past it. You never forget it, but it doesn’t hurt like it did.

Love Fozzy is very underrated yes he is a wrestler but love this band, he uses this song in AEW you need to see the live entrance when this song hits and the fans sing it's amazing. I have the same issue in relationships I overdo it and try too hard giving everything I am to them and end up hurt. I agree I feel guilt every day for the people I hurt just dealing with my PTSD I am a miserable person and just push everyone away with those constant voices telling me I am no good, I am a failure, I will never be loved it constant and a fight every day.

The story of Judas is interesting. If you think about it Jesus was to hang on the cross for our sins. In a way Judas was crucial to that plan. He was destined to betray Jesus to fulfill that part of Jesus' plan. Someone had to do it so that the rest of the prophecy would be fulfilled. He was so filled with guilt that he hung himself afterwards. But he was one of the most important parts of Jesus' plan at the same time. Just interesting mind fodder . . . . . .
