Women and Girls’ Right to Occupy Space Safely

The high-level dialogue, co-hosted by UNFPA with the Permanent Missions of Australia and South African to the UN, focuses on the impact of intensified violence on women and girls in the era of COVID-19. As the pandemic continues and social distancing remains a measure to reduce the infection and the spread of the virus, there is increased presence in the virtual world. This has in turn increased the exposure of women and girls to one form of cyber violence or the other. And because of the prevalence of technological devices today, their use can extend the reach of the abuse by the perpetrator. Termed technology-facilitated violence as it is wide-ranging and inclusive of many subtypes of interpersonal violence and abuse utilizing mobile, online and other digital technologies.
