Great video about the H4n Pro, But, But, When you mentioned about using a PowerBank which is great idea, But you said the Links would be in the Description down below, But I can't find the Bloody thing??? I'm just wanting to know the model typeo of connection cable you used as they are using the "Power" port which goes from the mains power point?? Please help me out? Thanks Teddy.
I brought a mini battery booster/jump starter for my car that has 2 USB ports on it. Runs the field recorder and video camera for a weekend, recharges off a 240v inverter plugged into the car's 12v if I'm out any longer or using it to run an inverter for the laptop. Sits neatly under the tripod, fits in my camera bag and kicks 36 flavors of crap out of your average power bank. Oh and it'll start the car if I run the main battery flat using far too many gadgets while camping. I've also got a SmartLav+ and my first accessory for it was the TRRS to TRS adapter. Utterly awesome mic for the price, stoked to know the H4n has the 3.5mm input to get the full use out of it.
I've combined all the items from the video into a single Amazon List here: amzn.to/2iM5OzW Currently I have switched from the Rode SmartLav+ to the Rode Wireless FilmMaker Kit (in the link) which gives me better audio once again :)
You don't include the external powerbank in your list of things. Can you recommend an external power source (for recording in the field) that can power the H4n and phantom power a Rode NTG 3 mic? Thanks!!! eric
Of all the videos I’ve viewed over the past few hours I have to credit you with the most benefit Driven and creative I’ve seen so far. Actually, I’m going to go back an unsubscribe to 2/3rds of the ones I’ve subscribed to hoping they solve my problems. You’ve come closest by far. Great job!
Thanks for your video, learnt a few more things. Currently I would like any tips on reducing the background hiss when recording my voice? There always seems to be too much hiss. Suggestions welcome.
Thank you for putting this together. Just got the H4n and this is a great intro video to save me a lotta time down the road trying to figure out better ways of doing things for my videos.
It's been over a year since I released this video and I still use my H4nPro every video I shoot. Currently, I use the H4n Pro as the Audio Gain between my DSLR and Rode Filmmaker Kit. The gains in the H4n Pro make this an investment that has paid for itself. I don't even use it to record! All audio is recorded via the DSLR :)
@@TechWizTime how do you do that? My current dslr doesn't have a mic input, so it's not a pertinent question, but my next purchase will be a camera with mic input
I bought this exact setup about 5 months ago, it really is the perfect bang-for-buck setup by far that I've seen. The stronger preamps of the H4N Pro really help with getting the clean audio. I use this setup for mic'ing up exotic cars. It's amazing!
I have zero tech knowledge so please bear with my question, but is your number 2 use saying that I can record a video on my iphone6 that uses the H4n as the mic for better sound? If so, do you then have to sync the audio to the video in some type of software program later or will the video and the better audio already be together? I don't have an SD card in my phone though. Without that I suppose the better sound just goes straight onto the video in the camera? I wonder if you wouldn't mind making a video showing how we could use the H4n as a basic mic for our phones. I'll understand if that's too much trouble though. Thanks for any advise you can give.
Hey man, you just killed me with your tips and links! I've been looking for EVERYTHING you showed here, and just after 5 minutes I got all bought. Thank you.
Thanks for the video. Just picked up my Nikon d3400 for my channel and realized that they dropped the 3.5mm jack from the d3300 on the d3400 so i will be picking up the zoom h4n pro along with a few of these items. Thanks again!
Such a great idea about using the cable to connect to the cameras microphone input, that would save so much time in post if the quality isn't affected at all, can't wait to try that! Thank you
I use the 3.5mm on the back of the h4n pro to connect to my keyboard (korg krome EX) headphone jack 3.5mm. The pro record's every sound the keyboard makes. Al-some and easy to set up.
Thanks for the video. Does the VXLR to 3.5mm adapter only work with Rode mics? Would the standard TRS cable work with this? I believe I only need a TRRS adapter if I'm using with a smartphone? I want to buy lav mics to work with the H4N. Thanks to anyone who can advise.
What's the best way to set this up outdoors? I am having a small speaking event (one person at a time) and was thinking of propping this up on a tripod with a windscreen to record their speeches. Would that work?
Actually, when outputting from the headphone jack to the Microphone level input of your camera, you need to adjust the impedance. A Cable like the Whirlwind H4n cable does that and lat's you also keep a headphone out in case your camera doesn't have the option to listen to the recorded audio.
Great video, it helped me a lot. Sound is definitely a thing that I have to improve. Can you tell me what is your sound setup. What mic do you use and what amplifier. I use Saramonic amp plus Edutige mic but I am not very pleased with the results, plus I have to think about the cable of the mic all the time and the Saramonic is draining the batteries like crazy.
Hi, nice tips. Love the battery one. Questions: 1. can you connect it to a DJ mix table to record mi music like a sound card? If yes 2. can you at the same time record the ambiance with the build-in mic? 3. what would be an SD card size to record at least 10h of music nonstop? Thank you in advance for your answer.
yes, yes, and 32Gb is the max sd card the H4n pro can handle. I might recommend recording to a computer instead of an SD card instead to go around the 10hr limitation. The H4n pro, as well as many other audio interfaces, can be connected to the computer directly via usb, that way the H4n pro just processes the audio into your computer and your computer (whatever program of choice) will take care of the recording for you without the time limitation (I would test it too before your gig to be safe)
Hey bud can you record using three sources at once? Such as record from an xlr input, a rode videomic pro through the 3.5mm jack on the back, and through the actual microphone on the zoom?
Hi Jonathan. Nice tutorial sir. I am attempting to rescue a 1972 cassette recording of a live comedy performance on my Zoom H4n. I have a clean cassette player and I'm wondering should I feed the outgoing signal through a mixer then, come from the record-OUT of the mixer into the Zoom xlr mic inputs OR can I record into the Speaker/line input on the side of the zoom? Thank you in advance!the speaker !
I think most people don't realize they should speak closely (an inch or two) to the built in mic and also a windscreen can be a lifesaver. The mic itself is quite good if you place it close to you and use a few simple presets in adobe.
you don't need the special power cable, you can use a standard mini usb cable (the same one you'd use to plug it into a computer) - it draws power over usb, works great, no special cable needed.
I like it! Just recently found out about the H4n Pro from a fellow cinematographer and will purchase soon to use for my documentary work. Really found these tips to be very helpful and will make sure I follow up by purchasing these products to help give myself more flexibility when shooting.
So, I'm having trouble with ALL my memory cards. I see an advertisement with one supplier of accessories the SONY 32G Class 10 (1) card. This would be nice but based on the list of cards on the Zoom H4N Pro PDF this is not one of the cards they show. All their cards seen to be old and many are not even for sale on Amazon. None of those either are sent via Prime. Just curious if you'd be kind enuf to furnish a card or two you use? Thanx!I also can't see the type power cable USB type you use on Amazon. Brand and Model please? The only ones I find are shown as being for two way radios. I'm not a film person but would like to know ideas for which of the items you mention other than the microphones could be used in recording/ looping practice with an acoustic if you know please? Thanks - CJ
Ehy man great video. With my Zoom N4h and my phone, if I want to record me audio/video while I play at the piano is necessary just the cable 3,5mm from the lino out of the Zoom to the Audio input of the phone? Thanks.
Hi, can I ask if I can connect a XLR cable to mic and connect a 6.5mm jack to my electric guitar directly in order to record both my vocal and guitar at the same time and get two clearer sounds? or do I have to connect another mic in order to record the guitar? Thanks!
Why do U have to use an adapter cable when using the rear 3.5 mm jack on the back? Can U record from that port with just any Mono lav mic? Lastly have U ever heard how one might get the H4N pro to turn on and off synced to the record button of a video camera like the Canon XA-30? I do have the corded remote. Great Video learned a lot.
Is this able to be used outside? Like if there is a small speaking event and I put it on a tripod near the speaker, will it capture their audio clearly or will they have to speak directly into it?
It's a great machine. Perhaps one thing you should touch on is the stamina mode switch under the battery plate. When it is in stamina mode it cancels out some of the other Actions that you can do in the other mode such as bitrate files on mp3s and more.
Why a Rode smartLav+ Lavalier Microphone for iPhone and Smartphones? Does the H4n Pro specifically have a 4 connector jack on the back? Does this mean that a mono or stereo mic would not work? That mic is quite expensive and I would like to open up my options with a better understanding of what options are available to connect to the inputs. Also I'm interested in connecting 2 lav mics to the XLR jacks with the 3.5mm adapters you showed here and so my question applies to these jacks and connectors as well. Thanks.
Hello, nice video 😊. I have a question. Would be very nice if you answer me. I bought Zoom H4n pro new, honestly I have no idea 🙃, maybe you can give me a setting tip? For motorcycle. thank you in advance
Dude, check this one! Ur ideas brought me ideas, u can even combine vxrl to connect wireless lavier mics (rodeGo wireless mics) and at the same time u can connect it to the camera by by line/headphone Jack.
Hi, thanks for this video! I have a question about tip nr 5. I have a 20000 mAh powerbank, the output is 5V, 3.4 A (total), it has 2 outputs. I just bought the 5V 1A USB cable that you suggested, but I am asking myself if I could use my powerbank, that has an output higher than requested for the H4n pro (3,4 A vs 1A), or it is better to don't use it to power the recorder to avoid damages? Will the USB cable you suggested "convert" the output amperage of my powerbank from 3,4 A to 1A? Thanks and sorry for length!
Voltage needs to match, but amperage does not. With current (amps), you need to ensure you have at LEAST as much current as your device demands, rather than viewing the device's rated current as an upper limit. The device _draws_ as much current as it needs (or less, if less is available), but never more. The 1A-rated cable could theoretically be insufficient for the power bank if you were powering a device that draws 3.4A...but you're not. The H4N comes with a 5V 1A adapter (Zoom AD-17), so it draws no more than that. Hope that helps.
I recently got one of these for recording foley and things for sound design but I'm wondering whether you know If i plug the jack of an auxilary cable into the headphone output with the other end going into the microphone input of my computer and then set the device to monitor mode, Could I also use it as a microphone ??
i just got the h4n pro! Your hacks are genious. Do you ever use the wired lavs tho? the shotgun mic on the device works fine but my lav's for channel one and two do not work and wondered if you had the same issue and thats why you were using the singular external mic input instead of the xlr outputs.
Hello I have a question; perhaps you can comment: I am planning to acquire the H4N Pro in order to 'back up' Digital Audio Tapes ( DAT ) from a DAT machine which is becoming faulty. I am planning to connect the right / left XLR analog outputs from the DAT machine to the R / L XLR inputs on the H4N Pro, and record onto an SD card. I don'y want to add any of the audio enhancements affordrd by the Zoom model. Will this work ? Thank you Louis
wow great and very handy tips ! thanks a lot sir👍👍👍 ive got some questions though, can i apply editing like reverbs and echo to my singing vocals and directly monitoring it while recording?? thanks for your answer
Hi, great video and very useful. Question is I took your recommedation of the rode smartlav + and the SC1 and SC3 leads etc. but I am not getting any sound from the mic, does it need phantom power? or do I need to do something in the menu to get the smartLav up and running. cheers, Steve
Apologies, ignore my question above as I have just sorted it, I forgot to turn on the plug in power!, all good now. Thanks again for the advice in your tutorial.
Hi, for not receiving line signal + 4dbu, is H4n a recorder with less quality than others that receive + 4dbu or does not this detail affect the final audio quality of the H4n? Thanks and congratulations for the video.
TechWizTime, thanks for your video, just want to ask,and you may have already answered my question in your video I have a Samsung S8a smart phone,I would like to use as a camera for uploading the videos I want to make of my audio equipment to RUclips,Will I get good quality recording with the Zoom H4n pro,and what accessories will I need to make that happen,I am an Aussie like you :-)
great video! is there any test that measured the USB powered time. what ever test . it's just that I don't know how long for example you can power a xlr mic with phantom power from a let's say 10000mA power bank. or any other test like this.
those the H4n pro still have the phantom power option ? (might be a stupid question cant seem to get answer via google) if does. a real step up that you can charge it using a power bank cause phantom power does go through alot batteries very quickly
Hi, I have a couple of questions, first I'd like to give you somewhat of a backstory. I don't have any experience with sound recording but I'm looking for the best handheld recorder to use for filmmaking (animation) purposes, I'd like to record sound effects, ambience sound, nature recordings and voice recording. I've done research and quickly found the Zoom H2n, then found the Zoom H4n, and now the Zoom H4n pro. These are the recorders I can afford. Now I understand the main difference between the H2n and H4n are options and the H4n pro is a greatly improved version. I would like the option to be able to mount it to my DSLR so I think that means scrapping the Zoom H2n, right? The H4n and pro version have XLR inputs so you can use an external mic with it. My questions about these are: Basically how this works. What is the role of the Zoom h4n pro in this, why would you use an external mic with it? What is the purpose of using an external mic, on a Zoom h4n pro, on a DSLR? I've watched many reviews, and the H4n pro seems like the best option out of these with more options for the future.. but I would basically like a bit more information and confirmation as to how this all works, from someone with experience before I make the purchase.
Okay. The H4nPro is the better choice for several reasons. The internal components are upgraded to be better in a recording sense. The GAINS (or how loud the sound can be manipulated before getting noisy feedback) are of the same quality as the models up from the H4n. Better Gains = Better sound quality. The reason for using an external XLR Microphone is better quality sound once again. The microphones on top of the H4N Pro are great quality, however, if you are looking for a low noise floor (or the amount of noise being captured when nothing is happening) and a greater range of sound (basically bass, treble, warmth etc) then an external microphone is going to bring your great sound recordings up to awesome! To be honest, if you are just recording sounds for animation, then the H4N Pro is all you would need to start. Adding a Boom Mic with a Blimp enclosure to reduce noise is something that can be purchased down the track. You don't need it now. Just make content as making the content means you improve and get better with time! Good Luck :)
Thank you very much for your answer! I figured the H4n pro would be better down the line because it has at least the option of using another mic with it down the line should I want to but it's always good to have a bit more information from someone who has the information & experience! Now I am definitely convinced. :)
#2 seems like it would be #1 for me... NO NEED TO SYNC ANYMORE!!! that "clap" before recording on both devices.. wow. (NO MORE NEED TO) I'll definitely use #2 out when I get the h4n pro soon.
Thanks TechWiz, great video. I accidentally dropped something onto my H4N Pro whilst it was in the case and it still managed to break the led screen. The recorder still works but has an ink bleed, do you know anywhere in Aus that fixes screens?
Thanks, this is helpful! I need to plug in two external lavalier mikes for doing an interview. I want to set them both to record in stereo. How do I do that? Is there a way to set stereo for both inputs 1 and 2? I only want to use external mikes, not the mike that comes on the recorder. Also, can you recommend a mode to record in? I am feeling VERY overwhelmed by this new fancy recorder, though I know it's a must to have now that I am podcasting professionally.
the best thing is usb record to Ipad. jacks just give you analogue. but USB is digital. so if your set up is jack output, the signal is analogue converted to digital in the zoom then back to analogue jack for the ipad then coverted again to digital, were as if you set up your zoom to USB out it goes direct to ipad. I think it ......what do you think?
Great video! Got a H4N amd am about to start face to face interviews, was going to use an SM58 but am struggling with the pre-amp hiss, what options are there for two lapel mics going into the H4N...any thoughts please?
Can you record straight from a phone into the H4N Pro? I will be using my H4N to do Podcast and some of my interviews may be via phone. It would be so much easier to hook the phone straight into the recorder if possible. I believe that is what you were saying with tip 1 but am unsure. Thanks...
Great video! I will be using many of your ideas soon. Thanks. Do you know if I can do multi-tracking on the ipad (with Garage band or any other other - not too expensive - multi-tracking app) using all 4 inputs of the ZoonH4n Pro at the same time?
Thank you for your tips. I will be buying this one to record solo piano music. Is it possible to use my own mics, which might be better than the ones from the recorder? How do I connect my own omnidirectional mics?
Just plug them into the bottom. The H4N even has 24V and 48V phantom power for the XLR ports, if you need it. You could also use the 3.5mm on the back, but you'd have to have a weird cable (e.g. 2x 3.5mm female mono to 1x 3.5mm male stereo) to make it work.
What can I use to record video and audio at the same time..yest doublenback and made a lead guitar solo to another track later on? Then upload to face book or you tube.
Do you know how i can import wave files back into the H4n? I recorded instruments and used up all 4 tracks on the H4n. So, i put all tracks into a single wave file so that i could re-upload them to the H4n. However, now I'm having a bit of an issue because i can't seem to move them to the H4n. It won't play :(...S.0.S. NEED HELP! Thanx!
Hey buddy I connected my h4n pro to my pc (windows 10) to use it as a interface audio and when i made a test it just sounds horrible do you know what could it be?? The mics are ok
If you plug the Rode straight into your computer, it will be worse than the Zoom. If you plug it INTO the Zoom, it will be better than the tiny top mics. I've never actually used either item, FWIW, but I'm confident that any mic with no pre-amp will suck compared to the Zoom (which has a pre-amp). This is a non-issue if you already have pro audio gear, but if you don't, you'll probably need the Zoom or something like it anyway. Cheers.
What audio device do you recommend to capture audio wirelessly from 2 different people talking at the same time who are being recorded by one single DSLR?
Hi, I recorded a concert using hn4 pro. When I playback concert on recorder it seems clear but when I put the sd card into my laptop the audio level is very quiet. Do I need software to edit this? Are you able to help? Thanks
I use Adobe Audition for all my Audio Post Production. You should be able to NORMALISE the audio to -3db quickly and get an idea on how it sounds. If you have silence recorded, you can capture that noise print after normailisation to reduce any of the unwanted hissing or static. It should dramatically boost your audio. Otherwise, try a free tool like Audacity which may just help too :)
I have budget to buy 2 Tascam DR-10L or... 1 Tascam DR-10L + 1 Zoom H4n Pro. I need these to make interviews, most of the time with 2 persons at the same time. What would you commend me to do?
you may have already addressed this. Is there a way to make the H4n Pro into an external mic for iPhone? I've just purchased a MEVO and would LOVE the quality of the sound to match the picture.
On the side of the H4N Pro is an Output 3.5mm jack. I output all my audio from the H4n to the Canon T5i so I don't have to mix in audio from another source. The H4n Pro acts purely as the Amplifier between my camera and the Rode Filmmaker Kit Wirless Lav that I use. The gains that it provides means my audio sound 1000% better and cleaner with minimal noise. Recording with just the H4N Pro microphones will give you better audio compared to an iPhone as well :) Hope that helps.
Question for you. Can you record through the back input (tip #1) and still record ambient and xlr shotgun mic all at the same time? Preferably each input saved as a separate wav file 🗃️
I'm considering using the H4N with a lav mic. But if I were to use it for shoots where the subject is moving around, and must carry the H4N on them, I have two concerns. 1. The H4n is bulky - where to hide it? And 2. How to prevent the STOP button from being bumped?
Dunno what you mean by "hide", but I think both problems are solved if you mount it on your hotshoe if you use a DSLR or consumer camcorder. If it's a "real" video camera, I'd probably just use 3M two-way tape and attach it wherever seems best. This is especially good if you use the power bank, because then you don't have to remove the H4N to change the batteries. Cheers. P.S. As someone who's worked as a cook and an office cleaner, I appreciate your "Corporate Health PSA" very much.
I don't use my Zoom H4n PRO much because of my type of video (TOY R/C Model Planes) where I need someone to figure a way for my Canon XA-30 or T5i to take my H4n PRO from pause to record and back to pause as I press the Record/Pause button on the camera. I have the Wired Remote for the H4n PRO but need the H4n PRO better synced with the Record/Pause of my camera as there many shots are very short 3 to 10 seconds and as many shots as 25 to 30 or more in a single flight. and can be of different aircraft. So you can see the synchronization of audio can be very time consuming if not at all impossible. Any help out there PLZ.
Hey there, I really enjoyed the vid, thanks mate ! I'm wondering about the Xlr-mini jack adaptor you mentionned, is there any reason to go for that rather than a simple mini jack-regular jack that you plug directly in the XLR port ? Some audio advantage maybe or same same ? Thanks !

Can we use zoom h4n for outdoor shooting directly without putting any extra mic on it••???
I literally shouted out loud when I saw that USB to 5A cable. LIFESAVER!
Awesome! Step 5 will save me tonnes on batteries! Had no idea! Thanks for the tip!!!

I brought a mini battery booster/jump starter for my car that has 2 USB ports on it. Runs the field recorder and video camera for a weekend, recharges off a 240v inverter plugged into the car's 12v if I'm out any longer or using it to run an inverter for the laptop. I've also got a SmartLav+ and my first accessory for it was the TRRS to TRS adapter. Utterly awesome mic for the price, stoked to know the H4n has the 3.5mm input to get the full use out of it.

Currently I have switched from the Rode SmartLav+ to the Rode Wireless FilmMaker Kit (in the link) which gives me better audio once again :)
You don't include the external powerbank in your list of things. Can you recommend an external power source (for recording in the field) that can power the H4n and phantom power a Rode NTG 3 mic? Thanks!!! eric
The battery pack idea is genius. Thanks a million.
Your Welcome! Battery Packs are awesome when you need a lot of record time. Even a little 6000mAh one will get you more juice then the AA batteries :)
I've never "liked" a video so fast. Killer intro dude
Hi there very nice video about the zoom i learned a couple new things one big one about the battery pack! Thank you !!
I've been tying to find a simple, mobile 2 lav setup. This video was super helpful! Thank you!
I bought this exact setup about 5 months ago, it really is the perfect bang-for-buck setup by far that I've seen. The stronger preamps of the H4N Pro really help with getting the clean audio. I use this setup for mic'ing up exotic cars. It's amazing!
LOL! You counting down the numbers won me over. Well done.
That's a shame about the dropped input jack. The H4n Pro is definitely one of the best investments I've ever made :)
Bro, mind blown on 2&1. Much much appreciated!
You can't use a TRS, only a TS, but yes. I'm fairly certain video dude didn't know about them this whole time. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I really appreciate the power bank tip! Thanks
Questions:
1. can you connect it to a DJ mix table to record mi music like a sound card? If yes
2. can you at the same time record the ambiance with the build-in mic?
3. what would be an SD card size to record at least 10h of music nonstop?
If you use the 1/4" input (the hole in the middle of the XLR) instead of the 3.5 on the back, you can do it for sure. Cheers.
Thanks.
Great video! I am refering to 03:32: if you plug in a additinal 3,5mm mic, will it "replace" the X/Y Mic on the top or will they still be usable?
Does using the 3.5mm jack on the back as an INPUT remove the ability to monitor the sound through headphones?
You can only use it as an input. There's a separate 3.5mm jack on the side for 'phones.
Great Video learned a lot.
do you recommend it for crowded outside places? without a separate microphone?
The power bank cable really helped. Thanks.
Is this able to be used outside? Like if there is a small speaking event and I put it on a tripod near the speaker, will it capture their audio clearly or will they have to speak directly into it?
It's a great machine.
Perhaps one thing you should touch on is the stamina mode switch under the battery plate.
When it is in stamina mode it cancels out some of the other
Actions that you can do in the other mode such as bitrate files on mp3s and more.
Thanks.
definitely going to try plugging my H4N Pro straight into my DSLR. So, both ends are the 3.5mm headphone end, right?
hi awesome video, for number 1: why do you need an adapter can you not plug it straight into that port? and how is that different from number 3
The XLR jack is also a 1/4" TRS combo jack. To connect an additional 3.5mm jack, would it be better to use an XLR to 3.5mm, or a 1/4" to 3.5mm TRS?
Mine is two years old and i love it. It is truly a great investment.
If you use a Lavalier Mic, will you only hear what you record from that mic? Or is it also simultaneously recording from the H4N Pro itself?
i just got the h4n pro! Your hacks are genious. Do you ever use the wired lavs tho? the shotgun mic on the device works fine but my lav's for channel one and two do not work and wondered if you had the same issue and thats why you were using the singular external mic input instead of the xlr outputs.
Hello I have a question; perhaps you can comment:
I am planning to acquire the H4N Pro in order to 'back up' Digital Audio Tapes ( DAT ) from a DAT machine which is becoming faulty. I am planning to connect the right / left XLR analog outputs from the DAT machine to the R / L XLR inputs on the H4N Pro, and record onto an SD card. I don'y want to add any of the audio enhancements affordrd by the Zoom model. Will this work ? Thank you
Louis
wow great and very handy tips ! thanks a lot sir👍👍👍 ive got some questions though, can i apply editing like reverbs and echo to my singing vocals and directly monitoring it while recording?? thanks for your answer
TechWizTime, thanks for your video, just want to ask,and you may have already answered my question in your video
I have a Samsung S8a smart phone,I would like to use as a camera for uploading the videos I want to make of my audio equipment to RUclips,Will I get good quality recording with the Zoom H4n pro,and what accessories will I need to make that happen,I am an Aussie like you :-)
Tip number 2 was awesome. Thanks!
great video! is there any test that measured the USB powered time. what ever test . it's just that I don't know how long for example you can power a xlr mic with phantom power from a let's say 10000mA power bank. or any other test like this.
those the H4n pro still have the phantom power option ? (might be a stupid question cant seem to get answer via google) if does. a real step up that you can charge it using a power bank cause phantom power does go through alot batteries very quickly
Can you explain the final hack please? I’d like to be able to use my H4N pro to take audio synced with an iPhone X but don’t know how to do it.
Nice tunes and great video
Thank you for making the most comprehensive video with this product that I can fine haha 🤘🏼🤘🏼
im confuse on choosing zoom h4n pro or h5 for my asmr video i'll put the device like 30-35cm from me,which one will make my audio crisp and sensitive?
#2 seems like it would be #1 for me...
NO NEED TO SYNC ANYMORE!!!
that "clap" before recording on both devices.. wow. (NO MORE NEED TO)
I'll definitely use #2 out when I get the h4n pro soon.
Any idea where I can find the DC to mini USB cable for connecting Zoom H4n Pro to USB power bank ? Can't find it on Amazon
Thanks...
Nice job with this video. Just made me that much more excited to break open and use this recorder at the NAMM show.
Nice video! Do You know if zoom h4n pro Works as a interface with the new iPad Pro usb-c? Thank you in advance!
Great video! I will be using many of your ideas soon. Thanks. Do you know if I can do multi-tracking on the ipad (with Garage band or any other other - not too expensive - multi-tracking app) using all 4 inputs of the ZoonH4n Pro at the same time?
yes you can but only 2 mic or 2 channels not all 4 but you can switch between the separate channels
Thank you Darius...do you what DAW software on PC will read all 4 channels simultaneously? Reaper?
Can you suggest me the right rod to use with It? Maybe with also a clamp?
What are the best settings in your opinion for interviewing someone doing a video recording?
Nice clip bro ;) Question: how many lavalier mikes can you connect to a H4n?
Do you know how i can import wave files back into the H4n? I recorded instruments and used up all 4 tracks on the H4n. So, i put all tracks into a single wave file so that i could re-upload them to the H4n. However, now I'm having a bit of an issue because i can't seem to move them to the H4n. It won't play :(...S.0.S. NEED HELP! Thanx!
Hey buddy I connected my h4n pro to my pc (windows 10) to use it as a interface audio and when i made a test it just sounds horrible do you know what could it be?? The mics are ok
Hi, great review. I want to know if Zoom H4n Pro can replace Rode NT-USB? Which one can record better sound quality?
If you plug the Rode straight into your computer, it will be worse than the Zoom. If you plug it INTO the Zoom, it will be better than the tiny top mics. I've never actually used either item, FWIW, but I'm confident that any mic with no pre-amp will suck compared to the Zoom (which has a pre-amp). This is a non-issue if you already have pro audio gear, but if you don't, you'll probably need the Zoom or something like it anyway. Cheers.
@@fun_ghoul Thanks for the valuable info.

What audio device do you recommend to capture audio wirelessly from 2 different people talking at the same time who are being recorded by one single DSLR?
I think option 2 is what I need. But how do I get the audio to be recorded straight to the camera.
Thanks very much for advice : )
Friend. Any audio ALWAYS has to be edited. Try using compressors or limiters to get more volume.
I have budget to buy 2 Tascam DR-10L or... 1 Tascam DR-10L + 1 Zoom H4n Pro. I need these to make interviews, most of the time with 2 persons at the same time. What would you commend me to do?
How did you make the title sequence with you dancing?
That won the internet today.
When you use it as a USB mic does the battery stay charged or drain as normal?
you may have already addressed this.
If I am recording birds or rain etc., what would you recommend I get to block out the wind? Would the Rode Dead Kitten work?
Dead Cat would be the way to go. I record my SFX in my office so I haven't had to resort to a Dead Cat yet :)
Question for you. Can you record through the back input (tip #1) and still record ambient and xlr shotgun mic all at the same time? Preferably each input saved as a separate wav file 🗃️
Thank you for the video btw
Can you just use the batteries in the H4N Pro or do you have to have it connected to a power pack? Thanks
Yes, you can just use the AA batteries in the H4n Pro.
Great Job! Any ideas on how to capture the audio from the H4n straight into an iphone? (for videos). Cheers!
Great video, but I would have liked an extra minute, give or take, on how specifically to assemble and use the tip practically. Thanks for your vid.
Honestly
You're the best
Outstanding, best video out there, thanks
Hey there, I really enjoyed the vid, thanks mate ! I'm wondering about the Xlr-mini jack adaptor you mentionned, is there any reason to go for that rather than a simple mini jack-regular jack that you plug directly in the XLR port ? Some audio advantage maybe or same same ? Thanks !
No advantage, buddy just didn't know about the 1/4" jacks. Shhh...
