I take it from the guy providing the analysis of the debate is not from the Midwest. If Walz came out like a bulldog, he wouldn’t have been consistent with who he likely is as a guy from Minnesota. I have no love from JD Vance, but he’s another Midwest guy. Our typical go-to move in terms of dealing with others is being generally agreeable or at least polite. Compare this with Trump who’s from the East Coast, where people don’t have the time to be polite, and this is what you get. Not trying to paint with too broad of a brush, but as far as generalizations go, I’d wager regional cultural norms explains why both VP noms were so polite to each other, rather than trying to rip each other to shreds (metaphorically speaking).

Walz did an excellent job debating Vance. He refused to get down in the mud with Vance, and held him at bay. Walz complimented Vance by saying "It's good rhetoric" but damning it as just that and nothing more. Walz leaned into every one of Vance's talking points and got him to engage in an actual debate, and that is when the veneer came off of Vance's performance. He has nothing of substance to debate and it showed. Then Walz dinged him with the question of the night and blindsided Vance to the point where he went into whataboutisms.

I take it from the guy providing the analysis of the debate is not from the Midwest. If Walz came out like a bulldog, he wouldn’t have been consistent with who he likely is as a guy from Minnesota. I have no love from JD Vance, but he’s another Midwest guy. Our typical go-to move in terms of dealing with others is being generally agreeable or at least polite. Compare this with Trump who’s from the East Coast, where people don’t have the time to be polite, and this is what you get. Not trying to paint with too broad of a brush, but as far as generalizations go, I’d wager regional cultural norms explains why both VP noms were so polite to each other, rather than trying to rip each other to shreds (metaphorically speaking).
