    Hey, What would be the cheapest option for connecting onyx with my fixtures?

    If I were talking to a dmx node and a media sever from a lighting desk with arntet would my switch need to be managed and also setup with an IP Address? Thanks

    Hey, Do i need a fixture that supports Art-Net or sACN or can I convert it from the node into dmx to then to my fixture.

    Hey There, I'm planning on doing a concert at the end of the year at my school and we will be using backing tracks and my original plan was to buy the Enttec DMXIS and automate all the lighting, however I checked my schools lighting desk and its running an ethernet cable out the back of it so I'm puzzled as to how I can do this now. Any tips? Thanks.

    • @LearnStageLighting

      Well, you first need to figure out what protocol that lighting console is sending out. If it's Art-Net, you can find and copy the Art-Net settings into the latest version of DMXis, and use that with the ethernet plugged into your computer.
      If it's just regular DMX on an RJ-45 plug, then you can buy an inexpensive adapter.
      If it's sACN or a proprietary protocol, you're out of luck.

      @@LearnStageLighting darn, my school just got a new lighting rig and I have no clue how to start with timecode on the chamsys quick q20 so I was going to use QLC+ but it is sACN.

    So if you were to have a router in the mix, in what specific part of the signal flow would you plug that into? Im wondering because you touched on it briefly here in the video. Also this may be a dumb question, but I was looking at some DMX output nodes, specifically Enttec Storm 8 and I was wondering if the output is an Ethernet cable how are we going to come into a fixture that doesn't have a network port and only a DMX In/Out?? Thanks for your help!

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  5 лет назад

      Hey Ladarius,
      Router literally goes in the "middle". All cables come to the router from the various devices, like a "star".
      ENTTEC Storm 8 - the ENTTEC Storm's use DMX over network cable on the output jacks, which is regular DMX signal, just over an ethernet cable (not networked signal, which is what it converts). A simple adapter converts that to 3 pin or 5 pin DMX: www.learnstagelighting.com/how-do-i-run-dmx-over-ethernet-cable/

    • @LadariusRobinson

      Ok cool but I'm a little confused. I thought all cables come to the network switch though? Would the switch plug into the router as well?@@LearnStageLighting

    • @LearnStageLighting

      Yes. A switch is a unit that has multiple ethernet ports, so many consumer-grade routers include a switch. On small setups, either will often work fine (or both!). There is more info on how this all works inside of Learn Stage Lighting Labs: lp.learnstagelighting.com/learn-stage-lighting-labs/

    What ports need to be open on a managed switch for either sACN or Art-Net?

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  2 года назад

      Many devices allow customization, but the default ports are 5568 for sACN and 6454 or Art-Net.

    I’ve been having trouble getting my Adj MyDMX program to communicate with my octo. I can connect to and run the device in direct mode. EMU detects the octo, but Mydmx does not. Are you familiar with any way to test artnet connectivity inside a console?

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  2 года назад

      I really don't use MyDMX, so I don't know it's setup with Art-Net...but at the end of the day Art-Net is pretty standardized and there should be no problem getting your Octo to work with MyDMX (if it is capable of sending Art-Net).

    Can you have artnet come right out of your computer with a network cable ? I'm working with resolume and I want to send video to some artnet devices (led bars with 190ch each), can I pull the network cables right out of the computer ? or do you need some kind of artnet node/device ?

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  5 лет назад +1

      Yes!!! That is the best part about Art-Net! Art-Net nodes are really just a "transitionary" device to convert Art-Net down to regular DMX.

      @@LearnStageLighting so Art-Net is kind of like an alternative to USB-to-DMX, only it uses a network/ethernet cable?

      You would need an Art-Net/sACN node setup to do DMX input into your PC, and then you could use it with a visualizer.

    Please help me configure Enttec ODE with chauvert Show xpress via ethernet or arnet
    thanks

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  4 года назад

      I don't offer direct support through youtube (check out Learn Stage Lighting Labs for that), but DO know that you DO need to have a ShowXpress USB box connected for it to work! Very important! After that, you can follow the instructions that Chauvet has for the DMX-AN if you need to use the ODE.

    Why are all the art_net devices 5 pin ? Do I simply need a 5 pin to 3 pin dmx cable to run to my lighting fixtures?

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  5 лет назад +2

      Hey Vincent,
      Most art-net devices are aimed at a professional user, and more pro-level gear uses 5 pin. A simple 3-5 adapter is all you need.

    This may be overthinking it but how do my devices know which artnet universes correspond with the designated IP?
    I have an enode with 4 dmx ports, so essentially 4 universes can be outputted. I set my IP then in my software all I have is "artnet universe 0,1,2,3..." How would my ports know which universe is what? I also have chauvet epix drive, and if I add that into the mix, how does that get treated separately from my enode 4?

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  5 лет назад +1

      Devices can receive any of the universes, and this is going to be set from the device (your enode) itself. Then, once set, the device ONLY listens for information on the universes it is set to receive.
      Same with your EPIX - you'll either set it up on a menu on the device, or via some sort of web interface. Once you tell it what universes to "listen" for, it will only respond to those universes. The console sends all of the universes that it is set to broadcast to the network, and the devices listen for and take what they are set to take. (Generally, of course in large rigs, you can get more complex than this)
      Thanks!
      -David

      @@LearnStageLighting I spent hours trying to translate what you typed out to my devices.
      The one option I was missing was setting the universes on the nodes. For some reason I had the thought of just setting the IP address was enough.
      Thanks a bunch for the explanation.
