Yes, it's true that Thunders is really high during this performance, (and despite a few missed cues) still delivers a truely mesmorizing performance and the crowd at the end shows their appreciation by cheering, clapping and stomping on the floorboards. I haven't seen that kind of response by a New York crowd in years. Unfortunately, times have changed and everyone now seems to be disconnected from this kind experience. It was common knowledge that Thunders life was completely steeped in junky culture as described in his highly regarded and most enduring junky anthems, "Born To Lose" and "Chinese Rocks". And to whatever degree he was trapped by a culture that he helped to create can be debated, but I bristle at those comments that seemingly discount his effort as "sad" or a "waste". What was sad and a waste was the way that he died (out of town and alone) and one can't help but feeling like there should have been someone there, (anyone) to look out for him. But Thunders was a grown man and made his choices and he knew that being a heroin addict was fraught with danger and peril. He sang about this life, wrote songs about the life, and lived it-on and off the stage. Rather than viewing this performance as too sad to watch, I think it's a Goddamned triumph, as did his audience-give it a chance.
lol people are actually arguing in the comments. Jeeeez cut it out already. It's music man! Although this isn't my fave genre, I LOVE Thunder's guitar playing. It's loose, yet tight af. It's irreverent like his performance. He has great style! ❤❤
He literally scores on stage during this show. And it was shown on television. He really went as low as you could go with drugs for everyone’s morbid fascination.
So talented it rises above the drug debauchery.. This live set was tottally ripped off by the great band Hanoi Rocks live at the Marquee. Love em all. N y Dolls..
@@robbiemccormack744 the song was no lie. Based on real experiences. I read kill me now and the thunders auto bio. He regularly pawned off his musical equipment. So is "Walker Bros " ...not that Scott Walker doesn´t appreciate The Blues or anything but ,you know ...people get here lead by The Nod ...why else would one be here otherwise ?@@nanchanger
And I think the bassist is Luigi Scorcia, who was also Johnny’s main rhythm guitarist for his US shows in the 80s when Walter Lure was unavailable. Tony Coiro also played with them but usually in Heartbreakers shows and he’s definitely not playing here, it looks nothing like him
That’s not what I heard. Brown powder dope. Maybe for the pauapers and squares but thunders had real money. If it was good enough for celebrities to score downtown it must of been fine. A lot of writers, actors, Wall Street people, were all scoring dope too.

Amazing how Johnny could be in such a state, fiddling with his guitar strap, and still perform and play like he does here...legendary.
"state"?

nobody had his guitar strap come off more times than Johnny Thunders
This is why i love rock n roll
This is sad to watch, him in such condition, a pity for music he went down so early and tragically, the man was a legend.
No, actually, it's a thrill to watch, fabulous teacher...
Now THIS is Rock & Roll, my friend! 👏
This is what got me hooked on thunders, just great band, what a time to be an adult.

His tone is great
The most consistent part of Johnny’s playing was that you could always count on his guitar strap coming undone… 3:30 😅

Walter Lure, who actually wrote this song, and 'gave it' to Johnny.
