  • On this episode of the podcast I talk with Lizzie Marlow, an MSK physiotherapist & educator specialising in lower limbs with special interests in running injuries, lower limb tendinopathies & of course management & treatment of achilles ruptures. We talk about everything surrounding Achilles tendon rupture rehabilitation. From the initial assessment to the rehabilitation - as well as what is important at the initial stages of identifying the rupture (I have unfortunately seen a 1 or 2 missed...) - utilising ultrasound to get the optimal position for the torn tendon to repair as well as decisions on whether or not to operate, then guiding through the rehabilitation process itself!

Frustratingly, the hospital I attended didn't do an ultrasound or scan. Frustratingly into week 6 and no real progress. I'm extremely active, run, cycle, gym, can't sit still. I told the hospital this but just didn't seem interested at all, said it would take 6 weeks to get an ultrasound scan. I was in a cast for 4 weeks and now in a boot. I feel like I'm losing my mind😢

Sorry to hear your injury. I have almost the Same situation as yours. ER told me was a small tear and not even providing me a crutches. I went to work walking limping. Took me 2 weeks to have Mri. What a worse experience.

@James Beamer so far so good as of now. I have an appointment this coming wed. I believe 1 wedges has to be takin off on that day. Im not sure if i need to do a ultrasound Ill find out wed. By the way did you do a non operation or operation?

@@junfrick79 Good good. Hopefully you're on the mend. I went non operative because the wait time for an op was far too long. Although the surgeon and doctor I spoke with in the NHS Orth department talked me out of it. Which is fine as I'd prefer to allow my body to heal naturally. But all of this despite not actually confirming diagnosis using a scan. I just hope it is healing properly.
