    People these days see too much of the good side of sports and life in general. There's always good with bad. Right with wrong. Yin with Yang. Everyone can go out sad.
    The biggest underdog fight I can remember is Foreman vs. Moorer. Hands down. I was 8 years old. I even remember my pastor saying, "George is gonna need a miracle." And the last round... BOOM BABY. It was a moment in time.

    • @thomashightower7881
      @thomashightower7881 Год назад +12

      He didn't need a miracle, because Foreman knew the Lord was with him the whole journey there. That comeback (and the fact that he's from Texas) is what makes him my favorite boxer of all time. Big George was experienced enough to know not to scare Moorer from trading shots in exchanges during the opening rounds. Moorer not realizing the danger he was in until it was too late was all from Foreman's brilliant strategy. That picture perfect 1-2 is one of the most beautiful knockouts to happen in the ring

    What happened with Joe Louis vs. Rocky Marciano still makes me teary eyed to this day. Louis deserved a hero's reward for all those years as the champ and for sticking up for black soldiers in WW2, and for the US using him as a prop all throughout the war for being the world champion.
    Rocky didn't wanna put a hurt on Joe, and even in interviews he never seemed proud of that victory.
    I hope Joe's resting in peace, you deserved a lot better than you got.

    I have more sympathy for the journeymen fighters who fight for small money, sometimes on short notice, sometimes in mismatches. And no one seems to care when they get screwed on a seriously bad decision.
    The big name fighters who are financially comfortable but can't bring themselves to stay retired can only blame themselves.
    The bad boy, big mouth, & cheating fighters shouldn't be shocked when people want to see them beaten, bruised, & bleeding.
    Situations where fighters past their prime have a real financial need to keep fighting are truly sad.

    Michael Bisping vs. Luke Rockhold, after Bisping took the fight on short notice. Rockhold was tearing up Middleweight, and held the title. Bisping was taking shots, but clipped Rockhold on the point of his jaw, rocking him. Bisping backed him up to the cage, and just wailed on Rockhold, who was sitting at this point, before the ref called it. I'll never forget that fight. I was with my GF in a bar watching the PPV, and i got to see Bisping finally get a title.

      Luke was never same after that fight

    • @curm1778
      @curm1778 Год назад +1

      I recall that one well. Bisping actually had a plan. If you rewatch it look for the multiple shots he's as he trying to catch Rockhold either coming in his chin way up or retreating with almost no guard and chin still high. Bisping finally does it, but in a weird way. The finishing sequence is a hard right to the chest as Rockhold is bladed to Bisping and dancing back to range. Its that shot gives Bisping the range to know he's got Rockhold's head right there and no gaurd, like always. The right to Rockhold's chest is HARD, though. It's not some little shot. He nailed him with it. And then, before Luke can really feel that, Bisping's left comes down like the hand of God and cleanly cracks Rockhold's chin. The sequence was fast, chained up like Bisping'd rehearsed it a million times. I'm sure the right was to catch Rockhold's chin if he ducked and the left was in case he didn't or get his chin with a second shot. In the end it worked perfectly with the right to the sternum, well inside range, and the fast left, over Luke's shoulder and clean to the chin. I cheered when that happened.

    1. Joe Louis - - Was DEAD-BROKE due to the relentless and unfare IRS treatment and an AMerican icon was betryed bt his own country he had served.
    2. Marvin Hagler - Was robbed out of a victory / draw contest against Ray Leonard. Hagler had been treated bad by judges in the past and several times avoided by promotors from a rightfull shot long before he became champion. Also had to constantly live in a shadow of Leonard despite working his butt off.
    3. Mohammad Ali - Kept boxing for to long and ignored all medical advises and ignored his own team's plea for him to retire after his Spink fight. Ali's ego kept going.
    4. Frank Bruno - After his fight with Oliver McCall, he was suffering eye related problem and after the Mike Tyson 2 fight, Bruno's eye sight was permanently lower and at risk of going blind. Against his will he was forced into a retirement from all boxing, a sport he had lived for and still did. His retirement was despressing and he often slept in a ring.
    5. Oscar De La Hoya - DLH had been pushing himself to much and was a pale ghost of his former self in his last fight. He was done and boxing had been his line of work since kids days.
    6. Mike Tyson - Tyson wrestled with a lot of inner demons, tax problems and a bankrupcy. He had nothing left in him for boxing and gave up against a most basic journyman he could and should have won. Was even paid $5 million for that fight. Before that Tyson jhad been very inactive in receny years and wasted his final career years.
    7. Bernard Hopkins - WHile Hopkins had made it to become the oldest P4P world champion of all times, he could not cheat father time forever and against Sergey Kovalev, that was due to happen. And while he still went the distnace, he was non the less an old man in the ring. And against Joe Smith Jr. it was over-due of expired best date.

    I was bored on a Saturday night and I tune into whatever boxing right is going on right. Anthony Joshua fighting some Hispanic I’ve never heard of but me being the Hispanic let’s go for him. All of a sudden Andy Ruiz is knocking out the champion of the world and we going crazy 😂

    How Bernard Hopkins ended his career still stings 2 this day 4 me. Though 2 answer your question the 1st fight between Nate Diaz & Conor McGregor will always be one of the happiest moments I've had as an MMA fan rooting for an underdog, as I was absolutely certain Nate was gonna win that fight the moment he was booked as the replacement for Rafael Dos Anjos backing out due to a foot injury, and was ecstatic when he won.

    Poirier v McGregor 2.
    Poirier had no chance leading up to this one. He'd lost once already and didn't sound like he had better answers. The fight played out just like I thought initially. I had McGregor getting the best of him until one shot landed, a big right, that straightened and stanky legged McGregor for just a second as they both turned. No one seemed to notice it except Poirier. He suddenly found his fists landing, tagging McGregor with a clean left. That was it and you could see it coming. Poirier laid into him with lefts and right to the head that McGregor was weaving and ducking as best he could. He kept getting tagged, though. Not enough to put him away, not until the one square on the chin. A short hard whip of a right hand up into the chin and mouth and that did it.
    Best underdog moment I can recall in a long time.

    Underdog fights:
    Boxing - I have to say that Foreman vs Moorer is the most improbable yet ultimately unsurprising underdog story. Like the Tortoise and the Hare.
    MMA - I think that when Nate Diaz submitted prime Conor, that was just special. That and Holly Holm vs Ronda Rousey, although having already seen Holly straight-on box I knew Ronda was in for a tough fight if she hadn't better developed her boxing. Spoiler alert: she never did.
