One of my most memorable gaming experiences comes from a mod dealing with a cheater. I played a bit in the beta of a game called Atlantica or something like that. It was a pretty fun game but I ran into someone I assumed was a bot who was just mindlessly farming the same enemies over and over. I filed a report that I believed I had found a bot and what followed was one of the greatest things ever. I received a response from a mod saying they would come check it out. Next thing I know the mod flys down with angel wings and checks out the botter. They tell me yeah this looks like a bot and then they said they will take care of it. They then spawn in a bunch of extremely overpowered dragons which kill the botter who respawns and returns just to die again. Since the bot keeps coming back the mod ends up despawning the dragons so they won't accidentally kill any normal players but puts a dot on the botter which just instantly kills them over and over until they can ban him. :P
Yes, it´s more like a fun way to deal with early players of pirated versions of the game than a legitimate anti-pirate protection like Denuvo or W10 Store Games.
This one guy named rottenbeard tied me up with balloon swords, sang about being a pirate, and claimed to be number one with three other guys. What is this world coming to?

Considering you can get thousands of hours of entertainment from a single game, compared to other forms of entertainment it works out to be incredibly cheap. In fact for some games I own, I paid less than $0.03 per hour of enjoyment. That's cheaper than the electricity it costs to run a TV.
Every game I've ever pirated, I've either enjoyed it and bought the actual game, or didn't enjoy it and just uninstalled it. Demos need to make a return for a reason, and game companies complaining about pirated copies of their games without offering a demo of said game are just pathetic.
@@adnanmahmudshohan4951 exactly, every movie gets a trailer, but sometimes you have to play the game to make sure you want to play more, so many times I bought a game then i realised I don't like it
Ideally paying a sub for a console service should entitle you try out any game for freee fuck demos just make it where you can only play it for like 2-3 hrs...
I would not pirate either that, or Mirror's Edge, but I _would_ try a melee-only run with an occasional shot in the sky to reassure that it's not pirated, & purposely fail that first jump by running at it at weird angles.
Funny that I played a lot of those games cracked and never saw any of those measures. There where probably in the very early cracks, got nuked and the proper cracks came soon after.
Tower 99 you seem very butthurt, not everyone lives in a 1st world country, but you made a good point. I'll uninstall Utorrent right after it finished copying the witcher 3
+Noah Ellison Are you 10? Instantly resorting to profanity like that, pathetic. Read the title, CHEATERS AND PIRATES. The Taxman shows up for even legitimate players therefore this is still irrelevant.
Matthew Semeniuk forgive for resorting to crude language, good sir, but your unfathomable stupidity distressed me. As the tax man does not show up for everybody. And your lack of basic linguistic skills, that of which a small child can attain with moderate practice, was rather startling, as apparently you cannot read a simple title for a video.
And where have I stated that he shows up for everybody? Nowhere. You've shown me your lack of basic linguistic skills though being you can't read a simple comment. Amazing,
My sister bought a disc for the original first ever made xbox and it didn't work when we put it in. That's all I know about that game. It didn't fuckin work.
Gary Newman, the creator of Gmod, made a fake error for pirated copies. When the pirates tried to open the copies, a textbox showed up instead saying, 'Polygons not shaded'.
+::Can'tBeBothered:: You forgot to mention that the error contains the users Steam ID hidden in the message, so when they went on the forums to post the "bug"... MWAHAHAHAHA.
The Irony is, Gmod is like the top game ripping encouraging app, ever made, pretty much, all ported 3d game character models, eventually end up on it or are made exclusively for it. All for the sake of perverting someone else's hardwork. The guy even has a whole forum dedicate to doing just that. It's hypocrisy at its best.
Actually, I'd say that downloading pirated games is fully acceptable in these days. Since most developers don't make Demo versions of their games, how else can you know if the game is good and worth buying? When you're given the choice to download a game, try it and then buy it, or buy the game with the risk of it being shit and leaving you asking for a refund, I think the choice is pretty clear.
Then just watch a youtube letsplay, or read reviews, or get a refund. If your goal is to pirate a game as a sort of demo, then what is the incentive to ever actually buy the game? Rather than just keep playing your pirated game.
The Gentleman Well. most people that aren't assholes want to support the developers(except for EA, fuck those guys). I actually bought a lot of games that I pirated, because it just feels better. Plus a RUclips let's play and your own experience are two completely different things. Everyone has their own playstyle, and chances are, not all RUclipsrs will fit that playstyle, so you need to find out what works out best for you.
The Pizza Delivery Guy Then you are the exception. Given a vhoice between a free game and a 60$ game, and there were absolutely no penalties for chosing the free game, that is the one people will choose. If you need to find out what works best for you, then look at the games features, and see of they accomodate that.
I used to play a lot of pirated games... from this list I've played, Mirrors Edge, Batman Arkham Asylum and GTA 4 and never ran into these 'bugs'. Only game I experienced the implemented anti pirate code is Game Dev Tycoon.
I'm going to buy a real copy of gta 4 and tell everybody I had to pirate it because I was broke. Then I'll just play the real game pretending it's a stolen game to make them think I'm savage
Moji all they need to do is download an nes game, and they just pirated a video game. So if they download a ROM set of nes, SNES, gens, and SMS, then they met the number. Mobile games make it easier to download pirated versions.
The best part is that Game Dev Tycoon included that as a feature in one of the more recent updates. Now you don't have to be a filthy pirate to know what it's like to get your game pirated. I know since I bought the game on steam.
You just got lucky, or aren't stupid. All you need to do is read comments on these versions to know if it has any bugs or easter eggs like this. These exist but are usually patched by people that crack the game.
There is always a better pirate out at sea that can defeat any anti-pirate code out there. But honestly i feel like a bunch of games are low quality and cash grab. Make a quality game and not just a cash grab is always worth the money.
I know as a kid I pirated everything I could. I grew up very poor. Now, I'm not saying it's right or justified but that was simply my reason as it was for a lot of people. I also lived a year in Colombia and countries like that sometimes won't have games or consoles (at least years ago when I lived there) and if it was available in the nearest city (I was in a town) then it would cost an insane amount. People don't make much at all there and if I remember right it was like 1/5 of a normal person's average monthly salary, if not more. Only rich people have access to new consoles and such. Otherwise you're stuck 2 generations behind and you're likely to not find all the games you wanted anyway.
The price for the videogames are based on 1st world countries where generally speaking people can afford them. Take that to countries that have lower income and this is the result. It will never end. I've also experienced both sides of the coin and I tend to buy what I really want and pirate anything I'm not a fan of. I don't think there is a definite solution for it. The companies just have to deal with it.
Steam cuts down prices in my country to like half they are elsewhere and it's a good thing. They still aren't exactly cheap, but at least people here can more or less afford them. For me it's right about at the point where I'd rather pay money to play the game than deal with buggy, chopped and outdated version bundled with potential malware. I haven't pirated a game for years now and in fact I even bought several to never touch them just because I liked them when I played them for free back when I was a kid.
I'm from Brazil, if a game costs 60 bucks, for us will be R$200,00, but here our salary is about R$1400,00, a rent costs at least R$800,00, and we have food, energy, internet to pay too. It's easy to say that all pirates are bad people who don't pay for the job put in a video game, but for us is so hard. I followed so many games with piracy and now I can afford them, I would never do that if I've not become a fan with the piracy plays.
1:58, I played this game long ago. One time, I was at this specific jump. Some guys with swat armor were chasing me, I somehow managed to jump off the railing, and in mid air, did a flip, turned around, and taunted them, it was an achievement in the game and I kept playing the game for a long while after that hoping to do it again
To elaborate on what has been previously stated by the user Jonathan Escobar, developers develop Anti-Piracy trough several means. This can sometimes be files that only exist in physical copies, pirated versions uploaded by the developers themselves (which Greenheart Games, who were at #1 on this list did, for example), and many other means. It can range from hard to not-so hard to develop differing types of punishment for pirates and/or cheaters, as there are many different ways, the easiest ways also tending to be the easiest to avoiding while cracking said products.
But for certain things, all you need to do is provide credit, not get permission. It depends on what you're depicting and why. If you use someone's art to decorate your webpage, you have to get permission if you want to make money off that, or they could sue you for infringing their trade. If you were just referencing the existence of the artwork and that isn't central to how you make money, it's usually okay under fair use if you provide credit. Like, no one's watching WatchMojo knowing they can watch a certain youtuber briefly, so WatchMojo isn't infringing on those people's trade.
When devs start releasing games that are actually complete, I MIGHT, MAYBE, POSSIBLY, buy the game. Since that isn't going to happen anytime soon, I'm just going to keep enjoying my free entertainment.
And BTW, I've downloaded almost half of the games featured on this list and I've never encountered any of these "bugs". They might be annoying for a week after release, but then it's fixed.
Devs only want to release finished games, it is the publishers that want a game by a specific date and rush the developer, this is why being bought by EA or Activision is rarely a good thing, DICE now have more money but they are starting to get a reputation for releasing broken battlefield games that only work after a year of patching.
i used to download lots of pirated games from torrents which already came with cracks.. never had game distortions. honestly the reason people pirate games is because some companies treat their honest customers like pirates... You pay 60$ and more and you get locked content + DRM + lot of bugs....while pirated copies works flawlessly without stupid drm. I remember when i bought bioshock 1 and i had to crack it to be able to play it until 2K decided to fix the stupid DRM.
I hate how Forza Motorsport 4 and WWE 13 are DLC-locked to everyone. I was a honest buyer for both, and I can't even get the dlc that people used to buy. I hate when shit like that happens
I didn't install it myself, my dad did it for me when I was little. Then somehow I assumed that it was pirated... Maybe because I have never seen the CD or anything related to it being original
Just because it's pirated doesn't mean it HAS to have the pirating easter eggs. People that crack and upload these free versions of the games usually find a way around it.
Same here, even though I have never seen the proper version of the CD for the game or my version didn't have any cutscenes. I think mine was installed by zip file or self-extracting archive. Lol.
Well there is always Steam and Origins, I lived in Costa Rica where the average game usually costs 60.000 colones or ~$110, since I couldn't afford that I bought my games through those sources.
In third world countries people sell bootleg copies of games. You got to realize in these countries most do not have high speed internet with the storage to handle it. Let alone lacking friends or knowledge around how to do most of this stuff. If you don't speak english (most of the net is in english) then you are double screwed. In the end us americans have no idea how good we have it.
I also don't blame anybody who pirates a game that developers never finish it and releases it with terrible bugs, low fps and false advertisement. My friend pirated No Man's Sky believing it was going to be epic.....He was dead wrong and does not want to see the game again.
This whole video was very satisfying. But that final post on the game dev tycoon literally topped the cake. The guy literally says "There's no point in inventing a new engine because the revolutionary game made out of it will get pirated and I will not be able to cover my expenses." This is literally gold. I love irony, and I love karma. Here's a nice two in one.
people that don't want to spend about $200 for the game and all the dlc. The game is cheaper then the dlc, but its hardly a game without it. I know because I used to play sims 3 (better imo) and they did the same thing, I payed for one dlc and it was 1/2 the price of the game and only added a little bit more content.
Victor Ford I mean the Sims 3 is better, cheaper, has all it's DLC already, and is available on Steam. Sims 4 is trash. Literally. It's EA's scraped Sims Online project from 2010.
When your internet is not cool enough to handle Origin's swag, of course. I've heard that many player would pirate SimCity 2013 even if they have bought the game
Benjamin Tim I think he's talking about the people who illegally downloaded the games before they came out. I heard that they got permanently banned from any online interaction, forever.
again not true, this was an actual glitch they patched and the person whos 3ds got bricked, it happened because his pkhex wasnt up to date, which is ironic lol
I think people pirate because they fear buying a game that they subsequently don't enjoy. If the game is good enough, people will buy it legitimately, pre-order next installments, buy merch etc.
once i bought and pirated, once i pirated then bought. multiple reasons. but the main is, as 100posto says. we got no money. nowadays games are only for kids with rich parents. me, as a student, how can i give 100 usd for "that" perfect game? just cant.

that's awesome

You know pirates can easily patch out these anti-piracy features right?
true like how was with Batman Arkham Knight that some thought will never be break with that protection
deepblue2 not all are unpatchable, but regardless its still hard to pirate these games without triggering some features
Yes, it´s more like a fun way to deal with early players of pirated versions of the game than a legitimate anti-pirate protection like Denuvo or W10 Store Games.

Best anti piracy policy , sane game prices
Considering you can get thousands of hours of entertainment from a single game, compared to other forms of entertainment it works out to be incredibly cheap. In fact for some games I own, I paid less than $0.03 per hour of enjoyment. That's cheaper than the electricity it costs to run a TV.
+Nightspyz1 - As long as there's any price at all, people will pirate.
But is it worth wasting thousands of hrs of your life to get the price-per-hour of your game down to pennies. The answer's no btw.
Nightspyz1 yup not that 60$ game but have some shitty micro transaction on it. Everything have a reason including pirating a gamr

Every game I've ever pirated, I've either enjoyed it and bought the actual game, or didn't enjoy it and just uninstalled it. Demos need to make a return for a reason, and game companies complaining about pirated copies of their games without offering a demo of said game are just pathetic.
Very well said
@@adnanmahmudshohan4951 exactly, every movie gets a trailer, but sometimes you have to play the game to make sure you want to play more, so many times I bought a game then i realised I don't like it

Tower 99 you seem very butthurt, not everyone lives in a 1st world country, but you made a good point. I'll uninstall Utorrent right after it finished copying the witcher 3
what about the witcher 3? if you use a glitch to receive a ton of gold they send an in game tax collector after you.

Matthew Semeniuk read the title of the video dip shit. cheaters and pirates.
}he has a point though, remember No Man's Sky? bad game with no demo that got everyone angry because the people thought they got ripped off
Luis A. Salty much? Not everybody has money for all the games, you know
Then just watch a youtube letsplay, or read reviews, or get a refund.
The Pizza Delivery Guy
Then you are the exception.
Given a vhoice between a free game and a 60$ game, and there were absolutely no penalties for chosing the free game, that is the one people will choose.
If you need to find out what works best for you, then look at the games features, and see of they accomodate that.

shadowx089 I would call Black Beard
Why even pay when you can load the games for free in the internet
Pirate doesn't mean cheater.
1:58, I played this game long ago. One time, I was at this specific jump. Some guys with swat armor were chasing me, I somehow managed to jump off the railing, and in mid air, did a flip, turned around, and taunted them, it was an achievement in the game and I kept playing the game for a long while after that hoping to do it again
how do they know the players r playing pirated versions?
I think it's in the programming or coding.
Jonathan Escobar, no shit sherlock
To elaborate on what has been previously stated by the user Jonathan Escobar, developers develop Anti-Piracy trough several means. This can sometimes be files that only exist in physical copies, pirated versions uploaded by the developers themselves (which Greenheart Games, who were at #1 on this list did, for example), and many other means. It can range from hard to not-so hard to develop differing types of punishment for pirates and/or cheaters, as there are many different ways, the easiest ways also tending to be the easiest to avoiding while cracking said products.

***** Joke. And they gave those people credit.
I know one of the things they used was from The Know. I remember that voice.
I love that Undertale is great at pointing out cheaters or pirates and then hacking
8:43 hurts just a little bit more now

GTA IV and Serious Sam Anti Piracy are already fixed by pirates for pirated copies.
as well as mirrors edge
I would agree with that. I think you're right. Devs want to make a good product, but publishers just want to make money.
And then there are the developers who can actually appreciate the interest in their game and try to get the person to buy the game
Funny thing about this is those anti-piracy 'bugs' eventually get fixed by pirates and then the game plays normally.
Yes bless those souls

honestly the reason people pirate games is because some companies treat their honest customers like pirates... You pay 60$ and more and you get locked content + DRM + lot of bugs....while pirated copies works flawlessly without stupid drm.
I remember when i bought bioshock 1 and i had to crack it to be able to play it until 2K decided to fix the stupid DRM.

But if it was pirated, how would you even play it??
I didn't install it myself, my dad did it for me when I was little. Then somehow I assumed that it was pirated... Maybe because I have never seen the CD or anything related to it being original
Kevin Eontrainer SAME! I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT MY GAME WAS PIRATED
Lol.
I don't blame people from countries that have extremely expensive prices for games ( i.e: Brazil ) to buy pirated games.
some people in places like brazil will torrent the game put it on a cd or something and sell it for much cheaper than a legit copy.
If you live in America we are the 1 % :P
I also don't blame anybody who pirates a game that developers never finish it and releases it with terrible bugs, low fps and false advertisement.
My friend pirated No Man's Sky believing it was going to be epic.....He was dead wrong and does not want to see the game again.
