Lora *is* remembering what happened nearly 2 decades ago, so she's a lot wiser to the world by now, and says that her mother did live a marginally better life with Gort than with nothing
Gort also says in the flashback cutscene that it took him 3 years to steal Jin's core crystal from the castle, so he presumably cared for them for around those 3 years as he lived in the area to learn the best way to steal Jin. That's a fair amount of time to spend with someone, especially if you're used to moving around constantly as Lora and her mother did, so he might be the closest thing she's experienced to a father figure who actually looked after them for a significant time, even if it was for his own purposes.
Just a note: Despite his young appearance an after battle line from Hugo which refers to 18 years of upbringing means that he is at least 18. Plus given his alluded to past with Addam which you commented on, he would have to be of comparable age to Addam for them to have been equals to some degree in the past.

LONG POST AHEAD: With regards to Brighid, I'm very happy to see my badass flame queen again, but I will say, from what I remember from my own playthrough years ago, she's slightly spicier in the past than she was during the time of Xenoblade 2. To Brighid's credit, she's very used to fighting on her own, as we see here and in Xenoblade 2 in the beginning, likely fought many different types of people and Blades, and she likely has had some intensive and exhaustive training since being awakened, all of which make her a force to be reckoned with. Mythra does not have these qualities, as she's fairly recently awakened by Addam, and does not usually fight alone, but in Mythra's mind, none of these qualities matter because we all know a bazooka always wins against a measly handgun, it's common sense. So when put into a situation where Mythra is forced out of her small comfort zone to fight Brighid 1 v 1, it should be technically speaking, in a power scaling sort of way, be HEAVILY leaned in Mythra's favor because she's literally a nuke. But their fight is FAR from it. As soon as Mythra starts to struggle, to avoid damaging or challenging her own self image of being the strongest blade to exist, she deflects this "minor difficulty" in the fight between them as her going "easy" on Brighid, like this is a mere fraction of her strength, or at worst, she's limiting herself so it's "fair" and on "Brighid's level". Honestly, Mythra fights with a lot of overconfidence/bravado, which is one of the factors that make her so sloppy and unrefined in Brighid's eyes. Mythra really thinks that beating anything 1 v 1 will be easy because she's "special" or "the Aegis" and literally has a nuke on standby to deal with anything slightly irritating. After all, why refine your aim at all with the blast range of a bazooka, an instant kill attack that sits in your back pocket, with infinite ammo? Mythra fights with as much effort as she deems necessary, which is not a whole lot, but for an enemy like Brighid, this sparse effort isn't going to cut it, especially without Addam's guidance. Brighid is observant, calculated, experienced, hotter than Mythra in my opinion, and simply knows her capabilities best, and that she could win, not because she's stronger than Mythra, but because she's smart enough to know that a bazooka is only truly deadly in capable hands. Brighid is a great foil to Mythra at her current character arc. Brighid has quite a few qualities that Mythra does not have, or cares about. Honestly, think about burning a house down just to get rid of a cockroach as a first solution. Similar idea being employed by Mythra with using Siren as the first tactic to use when bogged down with something mildly challenging. Brighid would never do something as unnecessary or wasteful as that. She definitely would have killed it with a simple squash of a book. To top the fight off, Brighid basically throws an eloquent "you're a fucking moron" at the goddamn NUKE WITH A TRIGGER FINGER while calling Mythra a simpleton, a show of how beneath HER Mythra is, at least in terms of skill. *TL;DR Brighid is the foil to Mythra and Brighid is best character in this DLC, hands down.*
