Nope, it just makes the speaker sound quieter. The key to sound being perceived as loud is air movement. Since the speaker diaphragm is not facing the sound vents, the air is not being forced out the vents efficiently. So while the speaker is a good speaker, its placement is less than ideal. Such is the build as the saber body is an oval and not completely cylindrical.
