Such fun with the luxurious satin shine! I like the big yoke/collar area on this pattern a lot too. The crispness of acetate is super satisfying when pressing it, got to love a textile that holds a crisp edge! I prefer acetate for lining over polyester when called for, becuase they both fray a ton, but at least acetate has a bit of extra tactile oomph and doesn't feel like straight up plastic which is always nice!
You did a great job! Love the color and love that you pulled that fabric from your stash. For Spooky, maybe you could make her a thin pillow to lay and cat-rub all over out of this material that she loved so much.
I follow you and closet historian and a few modern style sewers. I was like, oh, what's up with the housecoat trend?! Also make her a giant silky scrunchie!
You made an absolutely adorable house dress that looks very lovely with your hair. I think if you do make something for your cat I think you could make them a blanket. I also think you could make your cat a few little pillows stuffed with crinkly stuff to play with.
Brilliant! I love the shiny factor (I might be a fish some days) and the trim is super cute! I wonder if you tried it next time with a button front if that would help it feel less “graduation robe” for you?
Congratulations, that turned out amazing! It's hard to be honest with ourselves regarding our skills, but my philosophy is if you don't challenge yourself, you don't grow, so I'm glad you took the plunge. Sewing curved seams in satin is like wrestling a bear, so don't feel bad about the wonky sleeve heads. I certainly haven't shown anyone the inside of my last satin project :-P
New subscriber here, so glad you took part in this collab so I could find you through other channels, that is such a pretty house coat and that fabric 😍
So cute on you! And do appreciate a real time representation of how long it took to make this because I’ve sewn a long time and I sew slowly. Well done!
This turned out so cute!!!! 🥰 Now you can lounge in style sipping your "wine" and now your neighbors will think you're living in a film noir! You have made me realize I need to try french seams and buy a bias tape maker. lol I also really want to make a flannel version of mine as well.
Yes! A bias tape maker is great, once you start making bias tape from the same fabric as the dress it is almost impossible to go back since it works so much better.
Yes, the zipper does make it look like a choir or graduation gown. It does still look very nice. And, be very proud of the inside seam work. This will not ravel. Be happy with it. Make a soft pillow with the leftover satin. Stuff it with leftover batting or leftover fabric bits.
Were spoonies like @retroclaude and @SnappyDragon invited? We need fashion to wear on our 'off days/weeks', when we can't get out because of our ill health, and when even dressing is too taxing.
Just guessing, but it seems like this may have been a relatively short-notice collab, which can be harder for spoonies to incorporate the extra work into their schedules.
Super cute! I love 40s styles and I don't think they get enough attention.
Maybe it’s a satin sewing school graduation gown! It is just darling.

I love a big yoke too. Yeah it is funny since I had no idea it was acetate until I burned it but I definitely prefer it to polyester!

Vintage vanity sent me . Love you house dress. Embroidery will help the graduation gown feel. The color looks great on you!
Yay! Welcome and thank you!
The inside details! I can't believe this was your first time using satin you did so well.
Thank you! I was pretty pleased at how not horrible it was haha
It’s so pretty!!!
For spooky, you could thrift a satin pillowcase and make a bed to snooze on.
Advanced achievement with the satin!
I love it so much! I am here for all the teacups making an appearance. #hutchlife
That garment is adorable! You do look like a forties film star in it. Very nicely done.

That powder blue color makes you look like an angel! Great work!
😍😍😍😍 this housecoat
You sew really well. I wouldn't have a clue how to start with such a slippery fabric.
So pretty! Well done! Maybe appliqué something to the top to make it feel less graduation gown for you?
I think once I tie the ties it feels okay, it just looks like a graduation gown when it is hanging! That is a great idea too through!
It turns out soooo prettyy 💕💕✨

Yeah it might but then I have to do up buttons on my loungewear which sounds like a lot of work lol
Wow, love this, you did a great job working with such slippery fabric 😀💛👍
So cute!

I adore vintage lounge wear so much!!! What a beautiful job you did. The color looks amazing on you! ❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely fabulous!
It’s sooo cute! I love how pretty the trim and fabric are together. Maybe Spooky would like those little silky blankets with the ribbon tabs.❤️❤️❤️

You are so talented, I love your work! Greetings from Sweden.
Hi, Stephanie sent me! That blue is 😍. I love zip robes too but the full zip from neck to knees.
Hello and welcome!
Ooh making cute loungewear is such a goal I really want to make some of those vintage pjs they look so stylish xx
Yes! They are also often slightly easier projects since the fit doesn't have to be exact!
It's fabulous 😍 x
Oh my gosh, that turned out SO cute!
It looks sooooo good!
