Thanks for taking us along! Beautiful country! I’ve never been north of Sonoma so this is a treat! Very different from southern Ca. Surprising that not many people live there! Upstate NY is different than down state too! Life is so busy it’s funny how we don’t travel in our own state much! Seems like there always has to be a purpose! 😮
Doing an awesome job with the video. You two together is very nice to see. Thank you for sharing your time with us. Cant travel myself right now, so really enjoying this. Great time of year!!!
I'm a native California and I've been on that trip up there along the coast beyond San Francisco, and I've been through Gold country and highway 1 from the south of California all the way up to San Francisco, I believe that river that meets the ocean is called the Stanislaus River, and also around fort Bragg, my late brother-in-law helped found jug handle Creek conservation area. It's a farm, a working farm for people to come and visit and to learn about conservation, those trees you're seeing are called Monterey pines and they're extremely invasive and in the jug handle creek area. They were trying to minimize their impact on the actual native flora in the area. Area they wanted to replace that by the ocean... Note to self Do not go on that trip without snacks and food... And drinks?...lol
The character of the CA coastline is gradual as you move up from San Diego to Crescent City; but the changes are distinct. By the time you get up to Cape Mendocino you truly are in the Pacific Northwest, and it's a whole 'nuther environment and a whole 'nuther culture.
Next leg should be fun. You're heading toward the route I typically take -- one of two routes, actually -- when I travel to Mammoth from southern Washington. I prefer the Interstate just out of sheer laziness, but the drive from east of Crater Lake on US-97 on through Klamath Falls and down to Susanville is gorgeous. Just a lotta two-lane road and not much civilization. That's a + for most of us but now that I'm widowed and a little older it just doesn't seem as secure, for some reason. But I do it because I love the scenery and I love Mammoth.
Also, Ferndale California outside of eureka is a beautiful town with Victorian structures all over and a cute town, and an amazing cemetery. The dates back a couple hundred years.
I love this trip so much! I hope that you took CA 299 east back to Redding, because any other roads are incredibly curvy and slow. I only mention this because it is north of Eureka a few miles in Arcata where I went to college.
@@OFF-GRIDPhenohunt Curvy roads make me feel sick and that’s when I’m driving. I’ve only made it as far as the Mad River and that was enough! I would love to see it, but that’s for the person who loves to go fast around corners in their cars or trucks.
Worked all through that area. Point Arena, Manchester, Navarro. Mendocino. Fort Bragg to the north. Noyo Harbor is a great stop to Eat. Fresh caught snapper.
Great score on the place you stayed at, it was beautiful! I'm a little disappointed in you though, how do you not have road trip snacks!? LOL Might be a possible business venture to buy a place around there and open a little cafe/restaurant sort of thing.
13:55 Yep -- you're in earthquake country, baby! You're nearing the Mendocino Triple Junction, where three tectonic plates meet and are either grinding past or grinding _under_ one another. Cape Mendocino is the terminus for the San Andreas Fault before it heads out to sea and joins with the Mendocino Ridge beneath the ocean. North of there is the Juan de Fuca Plate and Gorda Plate, where the next great earthquake is due to take place -- almost any time. Not to be alarmist, but the coastline from Mendocino to Cape Blanco in Oregon is overdue for a large subduction earthquake, hence the tsunami hazard warnings from this point on up to the northern tip of Vancouver Island.
Well.. for 1.649 mil you can get a beautiful 1000 sq ft home on the point w a beautiful view in Albion .. not bad considering .. in OC that would be about 4 million..
You need to get out of California more. Come to the east coast. Your travels are not anything close to what you would see in the ADKS or Appalachian mountains. And the Pacific ocean is a toilet compared to the gulf. Expand your horizons bro, you are far from a traveler. SMH.

What a beautiful trip. Thank you. I cannot wait to get one for myself. I would definitely have a few days at the vineyard just gorgeous.

May I ask, are you thinking about the Smith River, because the Stanislaus is in the Central Valley?
Happy Birthday,.
Love from England.

We drove that a few years ago. That is a beautiful drive

We did! That’ll be on the next leg.
Mitchell is totally correct you Do NOT want to take HWY 36 its best to make it a lil further north to the HWY 299.
@@plowbrothers365I can’t wait to see that! I love how the foggy air feels when I breathe it in. The moisture makes my sinuses feel so good.

If I didn’t know you were on the coast .. that fog layer almost looks like a snow bank in mammoth ! Lol
Ben your like a kid it’s fun.😊

The west coast beaches look totally different from the east coast. We have white sand up here in New England
My nephew and my great niece live in eureka area, check out Arcada, There's a beautiful bay there if you can see it through the fog.
I'm not sure but there was a group back in the '60s called the Little River band. Check them out.
I have never seen a friendly In-N-Out like that! What an incredible experience, just for Lori! Did you buy out the whole place or something like that?
9:00 San Andreas Fault once again cuts through Manchester and briefly heads out to sea just north of there on the way to Cape Mendocino.
Roughing it in a🪄 hippie hut... 'Surfsquatch' would .. 🌲

Mt Shasta is cool
Get lost...👍 Coast on the coast 🌊
Cant believe the Easterner giving you crap about your travels. Dont waste your time and money out East!
You are in the triangle. Pot growing paradise yeah, brother.
