I’m not a manly supporter, but watching the manly mascot celebrate with the players made me smile.
Awesome stuff. Was at that game, and every home game that year bar one. 'Egor the Eagle' (the mascot) always seemed to be the last one off the pitch cause every kid at Brookie wanted a high-five or a photo. They adored him, and that lap for the ankle-biters always made me smile. Had a real unpolished Sesame Street footy fan vibe to him. Especially compared to The Storm's stupid Marvel-wannabe mascot:P
If you actually want to 'lift the lid' talk about how the Storm were millions of dollars over the salary cap for years leading up to this final

Was at that final, not a manly fan but my dad is and it was awesome game to be at 🙌🏽 the atmosphere was insane! Especially when beaver went over for his try!!

It was less about Melbourne’s demise and more about the fact that the 2008 Manly side is to this day the best club team of all time. Still never seen football like it, the 110 - 12 finals run almost doesn’t even do it justice, absolutely everything clicked.

Are we really gonna forget the fact that Melbourne were cheating the salary cap? As far as I’m concerned a lot of what the Melbourne Storm contributed during the 05-10 seasons isn’t monumental at all. If anything, it showed how extraordinary Manly were to compete in either of those Grand Finals. The same can be said for the 06’ Broncos and the 09’ Eels

Rory Hofmans obviously not illegal but Dessy’s back ended contracts actually had a similar effect to the Storm’s brown paper bag payments. Keeping a squad worth more than the cap together.

I would also argue that none of those names come close to the collaborative works of Cameron Smith, Billy Slater, Cooper Cronk, and Greg Inglis, which would lead into another of my arguments but I don’t really want to get into the Sham Storm legacy 😂
And the grapple tackles and the head highs, and the chicken wing tackles and the forward passes from dummy half by Cameron Smith all the time, and Billy Slaters boots first studs up sliding at try scorers, and the late elbows on try scorers which was a common bonus if you scored against Melbourne back then, and the intimidation of the referees and the buckets of money given to them by News Corp and the absolute utter cheating on the salary cap - the Melbourne club of that era (early 2000s) was a total grub club from top to bottom.
The grubs were cheating they were millions over the cap and got beat 40-0 biggest loss in a grand final

I started following manly in 97 when Matty here and of course Andrew beat us in the last minute with possibly the most famous grand final try in the last 40 years.
My birthday is the 3rd of October (Grand final day in 08) turned 19 in 08 was young and drinking like a fish with my mates, when the beaver went over I cried. Followed em all the way from NewCastles win over em to see the Great Steve Menzies score.

Wow. Matty actually praising the Storm for coming back in 2009? Seriously? They were running the most sophisticated salary cap rort in Australian sporting history. To not even mention that is pretty disingenuous. Now I admire the Storm for coming back after their 2010 punishment to legitimately win the comp in 2012. That was fantastic. What I don't admire is what Melbourne did from 2006 to 2010.
If Ashton sims didn't drop the ball seconds to go before full-time against storm (he ran the ball up like it was the start of the game) Broncos would've most likely won the grand final. ps,but it's only a game

Yes the storm cheated the cap , get over it they clearly proved in the decade since there still the benchmark. And to be honest I'm not a storm man but they probably win those comps with out cheating in 07 and 09. , They built around those big 3 learnt they could still be successful , . But yes the club deserved what they got at the time cheating.
They did create all those players. Not like the Roosters just buying them.
