13 is a love it or hate it game, best would be a. And to SOLVE THE LIST, ILL DO THE REST! FF1: C (amazing for what it did, but it's dated) FF2: C FF3: D (simply because it's kinda just meh) FF4: B (It was a good story but kinda dragged) FF5: A (my personal favorite, but I will say it drags still at times). FF6: S (this is the arguably best final fantasy) FF7: S (If I could, I'd say it's A, but it was a massive leap in graphics, storytelling, and giving you things to do) FF8: B (It has one of the best sound tracks, and you gotta love linguia, but it's just a hard start) FF9: A (fun fact: the creator of final fantasy loves 9, but it still has its gripes) FF10: B (voice acting in a ff game, great, but it was soooo railroaded) FF11: D (First mmo and ran on a ps2, but it was just not good for so many reasons) FF12: C (it's good when you get going, but on the original ps2, it was such a slow game, and it's complicated) FF13: B (I know I said the best it could get is A as it has a great story, but it's just such a massive gameplay shift.) FF14 1.0: F (1.0 was a complete disaster, and it's a great thing that se decided to kill and redo it.) FF14 2.0 and onwards: B (this is how you make an mmo, the music, the fights, and combat, and the story telling I still play ff14 but it has alot of areas that just are boring fluff.) FF15: D (I enjoy 15, don't get me wrong, and it definitely feels open, but it's also a pile of junk from the mechanics to the story) FF16: A (I haven't actually gotten around to playing it, but my friends definitely love it.) FF7 REMAKE: S (I know I know, they changed the story, but hear me out, would it have been interesting if it followed the same flow? Add in there's plenty of minigames and interesting quests, characters, boss fights, difficulty is harsh but fair) FF7 REBIRTH: A (Take what I said about remake and add a open world,a bit of jank and alot of new and old stuff, if you liked remake, you're gonna like rebirth, but I can't say it's as good as remake as it feels more fluffed.) Bonus! Dissidia FF: psp A, later C (psp dissida is amazing, but the later was was meh) World of final fantasy: D (think a worse pokemon but with final fantasy, it's not completely awful, but it's kinda meh.) Crisis core ff7: B (decent and definitely great on the psp, it tells the gaps in ff7 but man it's hard to go back to.) Stranger in paradise ff origins: F (think a worse version of darksouls based on final fantasy and you'd have stranger in paradise, it's not unplayable but it's kinda bland at best. If you want to play darksouls but not darksouls try sekiro shadows die twice)
Great video! It's cool to see fans with different tastes instead of just "FF7 good, everything else is below it" lol. Just for being a fan of FFIX and FFXVI which are among my favorites, I gotta give you a sub.
FF2 may not have the best leveling system but hey at least the story, esp the extra content of Soul of Rebirth and the Arcane Labirynth w/Deumion and Phrekyos plus the Destroy spell/Revive spell all really give FF2 very interesting World Lore when its all put together. FF2's actually legit one of the more interesting FFs from a World-Lore perspective 🤔 interestingly, that leveling system went on to the Tear-ring saga series and was improved upon. as for leveling weapons, it depends on the enemy, enemies like the Captains in Fynn who're level 7 are very easy to level everything to 16 on. as for attack strength, if you ever wondered why a char w/99 strength is doing 0 damage, I can confirm it's literally because of the weapon's own strength, which's extremely weird, but that's how it works. so dual wielding bronze weapons and attacking the Captains in Fynn are actually the best way to level them. leveling hp functions diff between the diff versions of FF2, but pixel remaster's where it automatically goes up. for say, the GBA/PSP version, you're supposed to use the Swap spell Minwu has to level both hp and mp, til you get everyone else to learn it. as otherwise, you have to take somewhere around a quarter/near half/almost all your hp in damage to level it up, which's partially why hitting yourself's just that broken and only technically necessary to level up said stats. the one thing I love about FF2 is how Dissidia made Firion a Weapons-master w/his Signature Blood Sword. and the shut-down mobile game, Dissidia Opera Omnia, really expanded on the FF2 cast, especially the series 1st Dark Knight(story-wise), Leon, Powers-wise. the Destroy Spell is also one of the more unique looking spells in the series, its also a Secret Gravity Spell if and only if, something survives the 1st Cast, which's basically only the Emperor of Hell, and probably max level Phrekyos. I can confirm you can deff kill the Emperor w/Destroy, but its rng reliant on him using no attacking magic. FF2 is deff a flawed game for its time, but the story, and esp extra content in the gba Dawn of souls/psp version(Soul of Rebirth+Arcane Labirynth w/the Destroy spell) surprisingly really make it one of the most interesting FF worlds Lore wise. I actually really love FF2 despite the clear flaws it has. it deff ain't the best FF, but its music and world-lore(via the extra content on PSP/Dawn of souls) are very captivating, it really makes me wonder how a HD type remake of FF2 would ever look like one day🤔
I loved to see your tier list. I didn't agree with things you said, but that is the beuaty of 'taste': everyone's is different. I love 8, for instance, but i HATE the draw system, because it is just tedious and to stay stong, yu can't really use your magic. Just attack and everything is fine. I do LOVE 7 as it was my first FF and I love the artstyle of it, both the 2d background and the chibi 3D style.I can't really make a tier list from the ones I played (1-2-7-8-9-10-10.2-13-14-15-7R). I can only give a lesser/greater FF experience list, of which 2, 13 and 15 are on the lesser side. I must say one thing: music is VERY, VERY important for me in a FF game. Uematsu-san is emperor of game music. Everytime I hear Crystal Theme, I know I am in for something special. Thank the gaming gods of Final Fantasy. S-E nowadays is nothing, an afterthought were it not for 14, but back in the NES-SNES-PSX days, they were THE JRPG gods.

@@keythegamer2933 To elaborate on VIII, the general fandom consensus seems to be that VIII is regarded only slightly better than II or XIII. As for me, I don't hate it! But the story isn't for me and the gameplay is obtuse at best even with a guide.

I believe that we are seeing the difference between someone coming to the series after it has established itself vs. those who grew up with it. It's completely fine to find 13 to be S teir. Hell, now that we are almost 15 years separated from it's release, we're seeing more of the ways it succeeded and less of the ways it failed. In a lot of ways the main story of the game is a tutorial, with the end game being the meat. We weren't used to that back then. Now we have games all over the place that do exactly that. I personally enjoy it more now than I did years ago. Give it a go again, you may find your opinion of it has changed.
I thought I was a 13 defender but its not in my S tier. I disagree about characters, I didn't loathe them but definitely didnt like them, but the battle system was great. Doing some of those later cieth stone missions and long gui, and needing to experiment with different builds to complete them was some of the best times I had in any FF game.
I loved the Paradigm system, but the characters weren't likable, especially when you have to play as them forcing you, the game doesn't open up til Gran Pulse, and the story very confusing. 13 for me was the start of poor FF games
X, VII, VI at B tier? Really? But yes, like other said it's about different tastes. For example you can get super OP in FF X too, but the sphere system may require a lot of grinding and if you make a bad choice then it is hard to correct it.

4:58 You may already know this & forgive me if you do, but something that has become lost to time is back in the NES/SNES days, the FF series had 2 sort of unofficial sub-series: One game would be story based with generally set classes & less flexibility, & the next would be lighter in tone with less focus on story & melodrama but heavy focus on combat mechanics. They did this on purpose, in order avoid burnout by not repeating the same type of game back-to-back. That's why things like the job system kept coming & going, & the sharp contrast in story depth. That bouncing back & forth kinda ended when the PSX era hit, Sakaguchi took a backseat & the dev teams got a big shake up, and it largely got forgotten in the face of the much bigger twists & turns the franchise later took, but I find that context helped me to appreciate the games of that era more.
i know get why you have a 5050 split between likes and dislikes. but i dont think that's deserved. ya you put the more popular ff games in the B teir but it is YOUR list and everyone has different likes and dislikes.
My opinions on FF games and which are better and worse changes like every year. I’ve played all the ones you’ve listed here besides 3,4, 5, 11, and 14. One of the things I love about FF as a series is every persons opinions on the games is WILDLY different. Everyone has a different favorite and many people have interesting takes on why they like a less popular one or don’t jive with FF7 or 6 as much as everyone else. My latest ranking got me at 10, 8, 7, 9, 16, 13, 6, 1, 15, 12, 2 but I’m sure I’ll feel differently about some of them before long.
4 is great story wise and 5 is what Bravely Default seems to be based on, but 5 has an insane difficulty spike towards the end. If you haven't played any of the 3 Bravely Default games, think of classic final fantasy with a ton of Jobs and a system where you can sacrifice future turns to take extra turns for a character in the moment or go into a defensive stance to build extra turns for later
@@keythegamer2933 I remember beating it when I was 12 for the GBA, but played through it a few months ago and got stuck in the final dungeon. Idk how my younger self managed to do it! I do remember taking advantage of Mime Spam for the final bosses, but the damage output of even standard enemies in that dungeon are ridiculous!
Im confused here. You mentioned the Job system as being in most of the games after FF3, but they were really only utilized in 5, 10-2, 12, 13, and the MMOs. Every other game had specific roles for every character. Granted, you could build them differently based on equipment and strategy, but still...
Great vid! But I’m not quite sure what you meant by 5 being a step back from 4? The story might not be as ambitious as 4 but 5 is very succinct and knows what it wants to do. Whereas 4 jumps all over the place and just overall has a messy story (no doubt due to its rock development) Also I’d replay 2 it’s not the best game in the series but I think the story is the best out of the 3 NES games and honestly I like the combat. It’s just unfortunate that the dungeon design is a mess and the keywords system sucks
FF2 is just so bad, man. Really it's ust the leveling system that kills it for me. The only thing about XIII is that it was such a pain to get gil. Looks like you ruffled a lot of feathers with that pick lol. For my S Tier, I'm going with VII, IX, VI. VIII would be a high A tier overall for me, but the story in VIII is S Tier

good list, don't listen to the haters 13 deserves some love. 13-2 and lighting returns are also great, the story is hit or miss but the battle systems are some of the best in the series. also love the music and visual style.
I was surprised to see you only have 112 subs. This video is great and you did a wonderful job on explaining your opinions on each game(especially during the ff13 segment). Although a little feed back! I think you can make your videos even better with using some screenshots of what you’re talking about. Specific during when you were talking about how good ff16 looks I think a good screenshot could have hit the point even harder! This video was great❤!! Keep at it!!
Although I disagree with just about everything on this I like seeing where everyone ranks the series and I respect the hell out of you for having the balls to put the awful 13 at the top. I've noticed the trend that whatever era you start in that person's favorite will be in that era.
This is going to sound incredibly pompous, and I accept that.... I started questioning things when he mentioned that he didn't really like FF7 until remake (already a red flag, as Remake is just a cheap imitation of OG 7). However, when I saw that he put 13 into S tier... well, I can't take his opinion seriously anymore at that point. 13 is easily the worst game in the series. Like, I understand that some people put it above 2, but I think having boring and forgettable characters/story is a step up from having characters/story that I actively hate.
13 had Sazh. Sazh was cool. Other than him, I didn't like any of the party. While it is true that the pace of the game is quite good, the story and characters is the worst in the series in my opinion. 13 is a great game to play if I just want to skip all the dialogue. 7 was super hype in 1997, but the original game has aged like milk in the desert. I could probably still play 8 or 9 in 2024, but I don't think I could play the original 7 in 2024. Its day has passed. 15 needed at least one female party member to balance out the dynamics. For the same reason that i think 10-2 struggled due to no male party members, 15 struggles. While I enjoyed the gameplay of both games, the character interactions didn't do much for me.
I rank the FF games like this: 1. FFXV 2. FFVIII 3. FFXII 4. FFVII Rebirth 5. FFVII Remake 6. FFVII 7. FFXIII Lightning Returns 8. FFXVI 9. FFXIII 10. FFX-2 11. FFX 12. FFIX 13. FFXIII-2 I love all the games tho, so just because some are lower that doesn’t mean I don’t like them.

Honestly, 13 had an extremely good overall story and the combat system was my favorite amongst all of the games due to how they made a turn based system into a dynamic, fast paced take on the Job system. I hated the moment to moment story though. If it wasn't Hope whining, it was Snow screaming "SARAH!!!". I got really pissed at the fakeout suicide of Sazh. Like, for a moment, I thought the game was actually going for some real emotional impact, but nah. Again, the overall story is great, but the parts between the major points were annoying

My latest ranking got me at 10, 8, 7, 9, 16, 13, 6, 1, 15, 12, 2 but I’m sure I’ll feel differently about some of them before long.
@gAbeDHD yeah my list changes every now and then too, except for my top 3. But I love seeing everybody's differing opinions.
4 is great story wise and 5 is what Bravely Default seems to be based on, but 5 has an insane difficulty spike towards the end. If you haven't played any of the 3 Bravely Default games, think of classic final fantasy with a ton of Jobs and a system where you can sacrifice future turns to take extra turns for a character in the moment or go into a defensive stance to build extra turns for later
@Bigparr43 ive played all the bravely default games and love them! And yeah I noticed the insane difficulty jump near the end of 5 it was brutal.
@@keythegamer2933 I remember beating it when I was 12 for the GBA, but played through it a few months ago and got stuck in the final dungeon. Idk how my younger self managed to do it! I do remember taking advantage of Mime Spam for the final bosses, but the damage output of even standard enemies in that dungeon are ridiculous!
@Bigparr43 yeah it was crazy. I got stuck right before the final dungeon on gba way back and didn't beat it till the pixel remastered came out.
It took you the longest to beat 12? Weird. I felt the story was pretty fast for me
Im confused here. You mentioned the Job system as being in most of the games after FF3, but they were really only utilized in 5, 10-2, 12, 13, and the MMOs. Every other game had specific roles for every character. Granted, you could build them differently based on equipment and strategy, but still...
Great vid! But I’m not quite sure what you meant by 5 being a step back from 4? The story might not be as ambitious as 4 but 5 is very succinct and knows what it wants to do. Whereas 4 jumps all over the place and just overall has a messy story (no doubt due to its rock development)
Also I’d replay 2 it’s not the best game in the series but I think the story is the best out of the 3 NES games and honestly I like the combat. It’s just unfortunate that the dungeon design is a mess and the keywords system sucks
FR. A good way to have fix it would have just been to make you have multiple dialogue options.
@_JadeDragon_ I think it's the character in 4 that really made me like the game more. But I do see what you mean about the story kinda being messy.

FF2 is just so bad, man. Really it's ust the leveling system that kills it for me. The only thing about XIII is that it was such a pain to get gil. Looks like you ruffled a lot of feathers with that pick lol. For my S Tier, I'm going with VII, IX, VI. VIII would be a high A tier overall for me, but the story in VIII is S Tier
Really you "disliked" 6 I personaly really liked 6 and i played it after 7, 8 , 9, 10 and 12...so its not a nostalgia thing for me.

good list, don't listen to the haters 13 deserves some love. 13-2 and lighting returns are also great, the story is hit or miss but the battle systems are some of the best in the series. also love the music and visual style.

I like the battle system in lightning returns, but as a whole the game was bad in comparison to most other FF titles I played.

In my opinion FF7 Remake, Rebirth and XVI are worstless, and XVI shouldn't even be called Final Fantasy.

Although I disagree with just about everything on this I like seeing where everyone ranks the series and I respect the hell out of you for having the balls to put the awful 13 at the top. I've noticed the trend that whatever era you start in that person's favorite will be in that era.

This is going to sound incredibly pompous, and I accept that....
I started questioning things when he mentioned that he didn't really like FF7 until remake (already a red flag, as Remake is just a cheap imitation of OG 7). However, when I saw that he put 13 into S tier... well, I can't take his opinion seriously anymore at that point. 13 is easily the worst game in the series. Like, I understand that some people put it above 2, but I think having boring and forgettable characters/story is a step up from having characters/story that I actively hate.
13 had Sazh. Sazh was cool. Other than him, I didn't like any of the party. While it is true that the pace of the game is quite good, the story and characters is the worst in the series in my opinion. 13 is a great game to play if I just want to skip all the dialogue.
7 was super hype in 1997, but the original game has aged like milk in the desert. I could probably still play 8 or 9 in 2024, but I don't think I could play the original 7 in 2024. Its day has passed.
15 needed at least one female party member to balance out the dynamics. For the same reason that i think 10-2 struggled due to no male party members, 15 struggles. While I enjoyed the gameplay of both games, the character interactions didn't do much for me.

Imagine having a unique opinion and deviating from the dumbass bandwagon for once. FF13 is special to those who love it and there's good reason for it.
Honestly, 13 had an extremely good overall story and the combat system was my favorite amongst all of the games due to how they made a turn based system into a dynamic, fast paced take on the Job system. I hated the moment to moment story though. If it wasn't Hope whining, it was Snow screaming "SARAH!!!". I got really pissed at the fakeout suicide of Sazh. Like, for a moment, I thought the game was actually going for some real emotional impact, but nah. Again, the overall story is great, but the parts between the major points were annoying
If 13 had committed to a more open world and accepted a darker storyline, it would be in the top tiers
