Ipswich have significantly strengthened this season and beat the saints home and away last season. Will be a tough game. Ipswich also played well in their opening matches, and drawn last two.
Since RM has taken over as the manager, we seem to struggle in 2 areas of the pitch. In our defensive 25% for some reason we over play the ball & that allows the opposition to close us down which in turn creates unnecessary pressure which leads to a mistake, be it a short or wayward pass & that creates more pressure, as last season, we concede 1.5 goals on average in only 38% of game time, that simply has to improve. Likewise in the final 25% of the attacking area, for some reason we refuse to put the opposition under more pressure considering the % of possession we have, we are too predictable & pedestrian & we need to be more aggressive & create different situations that could lead to goal scoring chances. UTS 😇
It has been this way a long time before RM. Selles was exactly the same (and long before him with Ralf) but without this nonsense of trying to pass it around the box that RM insists on, yet it loses goals. The defence and scoring abilities define all teams in every league aand RM is not making any inroads to these issues. He has added a process that really isn't needed. Case in point 75% possession yet one less shot on goal (than Everton). The talk of RM is brilliant. His language is very encouraging. His tactics are in the Championship good, against a backdrop of similar and weaker teams. In the PL its a totally different game. We stand out as the joint weakest team - drawing with the other joint weakest team.
YEAH & like fair-weather fans would agree,THOSE TWO HALVES either side of the halfway line ! 🤔💭💭💭. 😁😂🤣👍/😠😡🤬👎🏻 ‘CHINS UP FOLKS’, SAINTS WILL SHOCK the ‘big boys’ B4 too long !
He plays it down (obviously), but tomorrow really is a big deal. I think he'll be under a huge amount of pressure if we lose. For some reason our fan base haven't ever really bought into his style, despite promotion. If we can combine all of the positive things that we've done so far this season into 90 mins, I think we'll win tomorrow. COYR!
@@steviesteve1 I'm not even sure it's that, some of the players at his disposal just aren't good enough to play his style at this level. We were continuously being punished for individual errors. He's understandably kept faith in the players that got us here, but the likes of Bednarek, Stephens, McCarthy, Fraser, Aribo, Armstrong, Stewart, etc were always going to struggle this season. At least we've now shown a bit more of what we're about in the first 30 mins against United and again on Tuesday night.
For me I’d have BBD through the middle. Dibling on the right and wee man starting on the left. Archer on second half for wee man if we’re still searching for a goal and then move BBD to the wing.
@@RedAndWhiteSFC Worth a shot, though Dibling can turn on the ball and beat a man, so that might be better in a RCM position to progress us up the pitch, otherwise he is at risk of getting isolated on the wing. Against Everton we kept getting stuck in our own half not able to beat the press and progress out. Armstong at RW worked quite well for large parts of last season. I think we need to try BBD through the middle, like you say, because he has been poor on the left wing. Hopefully if he can get back to full fitness and avoid injury, Ross Stewart can be our starting no. 9. Not sure why we abandoned the 3-4-2-1 that got us through the playoffs. This season we started with a 3-5-2, but Arma and BBD kept drifting to the wings and no one occupied the central role so we'd often get the ball out wide but no one in the box to pass it to. Presumably RM envisaged the LCM or RCM underlapping into the box but no one wanted to do it. Really missing the forward-thinking and flair of Stuart Armstrong. We've got so many new players and no one seems to really know what to do with them all.
Defo not a 6 pointer. If you’re saying that at this stage of the season you are deluded. We are only 6 points behind 9th in the table. It’s so early on still
It's a 6 pointer. Saints need those 3 points, and deny Ipswich 3 points. Only have about 10 real games this season, home and away against Ipswich, Leicester, Everton...that's our 6 pointer competition. Away at Citeh and filthy Scouse doesn't even count.
It certainly is. 6 pointer. Thee are only so many teams we can hope to beat and this is one of them. We will be one of the teams they hope to beat too. Hence a 6 pointer.
After 10 games nearly always the teams stay in roughly the same position. This means if saints are where they are now after 10 games you can say goodnight Irene.
I think it’s early for a ‘6 pointer’ in the classic sense. What I think it does have, is the ability to really change this half of our season. A big result tomorrow could really kick us on. Had really bright moments every game. But we’ve let ourselves down and looked a little nervous.
I predict they will press us hard and when we make a panic pass across our penalty area they'll pounce and score just like all the other teams that have beaten us! Just hope we actually convert our chances and get some goals to help build the players confidence ❤🤍
Ok heres what ive concluded. Before the last game in the prem RM said yeah weve changed weve learnt from our mistakes. All he did was change personel but nothing tactically on the pitch against united. Like previously mentioned overplays at the back leading to errors. Second the final third simply not scoring enough goals. Why? I believe were not aggressive enough not quick to counter enough and break teams down simply put tactically naiive and if things dont drastically change ive seen nothing to suggest anything changes significantly enough to win games other than a lucky goal or unexpected win. If we lose today we southampton fc should sack the manager. RM is out of his depth.
Quite the gift of psych gab. Dunno if he's a Premier League level manager, but he'd obviously make a first rank team psychologist. Very media-friendly and rarely utters the wrong word. Future in politics perhaps.
Everything is a big progression. What does that tell you? If everything is a “big” surprise and you’re having to learn, move forward, improve in a “big” way ie “big progression” then what are you doing so wrong that it requires “big progression” each week, Russell? You need to be pragmatic. Horses for corses. Did you watch Arsenal this week? Did you watch how they set up against Spurs and away in Europe? They are going for the league. They are not trying to avoid the lowest points total record. They are trying to WIN things. And how are they doing that? Changing their style, their way of playing depending on circumstances. Dogmatism will be the downfall of your coaching career. But the problem I have is that you are messing around with my club. When you fail and get a huge pay off for that failure, will you hand over that money back to the club?! I doubt it! But the fans are the ones that suffer. Stop this idealistic nonsense and start winning games. Play out when we can but don’t be so stupid and naive to think we can do it every single time against every single opponent! Do you even look at the data? The amount of clear cut chances we GIVE the opposition dawfs the one or two chances we actually create from beating the press. Every game so far we are making it easy for the opposition to score. Is this your plan? Because this is what I am seeing every single game. It happened last season as well. Don’t fool yourself into thinking what a wonderful job you did and how amazing you are. Look at how many we conceded and with the second biggest wage budget. We were the juggernaut last year and we finished 4th! I knew deep down this season would start like this. I so badly wanted to be proved wrong but you are proving to everyone just how stubborn you are. You should have started with the best team against the likes of Brentford etc. now we have a tough run and we are in danger of not even reaching double figures by the end of the season the way you have us playing. Sort it out. It’s not a play thing. And confidence and momentum is so important in sport. So easy to lose especially when you are making it easy. Give the players a chance. Lastly, I don’t know how you cannot see it, the CBs are far too close. You give your teammates better chance of releasing the ball if you are further away. Right now the defence is too close to each other. This allows the opposition to press narrowing the passing angles. Is this your plan? Because that too is not working. Spread CB. Drop Flynn to receive ball and have wing backs push right up and have wingers tuck inside closer to striker. Right now when we start with possession at the back we have so many opposition players on top of ours because all of our players are dropping deep. Cut that out. We are GIFTING goals. I don’t need to hear you waffle about processes etc. start winning games. And give the players confidence rather than creat chaos.
