To anyone planning to watch this series know this: season one is tiny bit of a slog to finish, but it is well worth it, because every season gets immensely better. I consider the third season to be one of the best seasons of television ever made, up there with season 2 of Game of Thrones and Season 5 of Breaking Bad.
agreed..i tapped out for a bit..and nearly binned it. Came back to it on amazon prime after getting through everything..and was like hmmm guess I'll pick it back up...now i'm so glad i did. The levels of quality just go up and up through seasons. And they ended it without it getting tired..just excellent from all involved. Does not get the attention it deserves
The writers and editors were lazy. The phrases ' YOU AND I', 'SHE AND I', 'HIM AND I' were used as subject and object. Poor writing. The phrase 'in x weeks time' as if weeks did NOT ALREADY IMPLY time.
I can tell you fellas one thing. This series has all the hardcore elements that a story about pirates needs. I worked as an extra on this set in Cape Town, so I know what I'm talking about.
Somehow adding girl-on-girl scenes will up ratings. Personally that would be the second reason I would want to view this show. First being: it's about damn pirates! Pass that bottle of rum!
Barbara Gordon Tywin Lannister reminds me SO much of Charles Widmore from LOST! (If you haven't seen LOST, then pull up a clip of Charles on here and you will prolly see what I'm talking about lol). His demeanor mainly, and the way he speaks to others. Sorry, just a random thought that pops into my head when I'm watching GoT lol
Just finished watching this show. If you are looking to watch a show about pirates mixed with Game of Thrones type of vibe, this is the show for you. Season 1 was kind of boring but it sets up the characters and the world. The production of this show does get better with every season. The action scenes were amazing. However, It would have been more enjoyable if there was more action and less drama. Definitely worth watching.
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag did not event pirates! Good lord, people! This series is based on Treasure Island, a book that inspired the modern interpretation of a pirate. Everyone thinks that every movie and television show looks like some kind of video game nowadays! Quite sad, if you ask me.
From Season 03, Episode 03 _XXI_: *Flint:* When I lost Thomas, I raged. I was distraught. I wept. But with you, I'm ruined over you. *Mrs Hamilton:* When I first met you, you were so ... unformed. But then I spoke and bade you cast aside your shame, and Captain Flint was born into the world. That part of you that always existed but never were you willing to let into the light of day. I was mistress to you when you needed love. I was wife to you when you needed understanding. But first and before all, _I was mother_. I have known you like no other, so I love you like no other ... I'm compelled to say the writing in this show is just unbelievably beautiful. I think they're fully aware they've got an ensemble of brilliant actors (Toby Stevens, Louise Barnes, Schmitz etc.), so they invest a lot of the writing in the little details (the dialogue, structure, character development etc.) that make the show as compellingly a work of art as possible, knowing the acting takes care of the rest and is sorted. In all honesty, they seem to have reserved the best dialogues for Barnes and Stevens - with literally any character in the show. One of my other favorites was between Mrs Hamilton (Louise Barnes) and Pastor Lambrick (Mark Elderkin). I couldn't honestly think of a better exchange over tea between a Temptress and A Confessed Man of the Cloth.
A visionary Captain sees the Golden Age of Piracy coming to an end, and he must overcome rival captains, mass pirate greed & self interest, establish a new alliance in the mist of betrayal and lies in order seize a final ultimate prize to ensure their survival. Great Big Pirate TV Series. Adult rated. It's awesome.
Pirates + Blood + Crazy Wenches + Villainous Broods= ONE happy lady :D See, if Disney hadn't done the Pirates franchise, we would probably see more of the above in those movies and see alot of more of Cap'n Jack havin his way with some soddy wenches haha! Love those movies AND Captain Jack, but this looks AWESOME! Definitely going to watch the pilot asap!
@supasonic maybe because it's set in the same time? AC is supposed to be historically accurate but with assassins and templars added in just because it's a pirate show doesn't mean it's trying to be black flag
after so much time something of quality shows up and then everyone is rejecting it....the directing since now was awesome......people need to see fake heads being chopped off and human parts scattered to like a film these days...for me..their dialogues and expressions are much more fascinating than a bunch of violent scenes...
Yeah the walking dead is just an over-emo pile of crap. A lot of the things the characters do end up making virtually no sense. This show provides logical arguments and thoughts amongst most of the characters. Though I gotta admit this beheading scene in an episode a while back was quite realistic and brutal.
Finally! Pirate theme entertainment that breaks away from the childish stories! Ironic considering. Oh, anyone else feels the Walrus is a East Indiaman?
You know you have a problem when you recognize 50% of the actors from other similar TV shows Toby Stephen's; LOST IN SPACE Zach McGowan; WALKING DEAD & THE 100 Tom Hopper: GOT, BANISHED, UMBRELLA ACADEMY, MERLIN, NORTHMEN Ray Stevenson: THOR (Duh)
Toby Stephens: Jane Eyre (with a young Ruth Wilson); Percy Jackson and the Olympians (current TV series - plays Poseidon); the bad guy in a Pierce Brosnan 007 movie, Cambridge Spies; and more.
when do you think the year of this show is set in? i'm guessing 1718 or 1719 at the latest. i know the urca de lima was wrecked in 1715, but i think that, as often happens in these loosely historical shows, dates and events are bumped around for dramatic purposes. that said, jack rackham wasn't even a pirate until 1718 (executed in 1720, and gibbeted. supposedly, he's the pirate jack sparrow salutes in the first PotC movie), and he accepts a pardon in 1719, the same year he met anne bonny. but, in the show, bonny says she was 13 when they met. other details of her character are completely off, so the writers are ignoring the facts in that regard. (i'm going out on a limb since they're playing fast and loose with the facts and say that max will claim to be mary read, who died soon after giving birth while imprisoned in 1721. the three characters have a relationship and max is setting up a business arrangement with them.) vane took over the nassau fort in 1718 (he was executed in 1721). in 1718, captain hornigold had accepted the pardon and had begun to hunt pirates. the show is setting this frame of mind up already. he hadn't started as a pirate until 1715, and while this would fit the timeline, it's not really too plausible, imo. he died in 1719 when he ship hit a reef in a hurricane. i don't think ned lowe was a pirate until 1722. so, all in all, i think 1718 is a reasonable setting since the show is hardly based in strict history. :) going forward, i think the fictional flint will recover the urca gold and that's the basis of the buried treasure in robert louis stevenson's book, 'treasure island.' flint supposedly dies in 1754. i don't think the book was ever set in any specific year, so correct me if i'm wrong. billy dies in the beginning of the book, while silver (the only man flint ever feared, and silver named his parrot 'captain flint' to mock him) escapes in the end of the story. ben gunn had been a former member of flint's crew, so at some point, if this goes to the very, very, *very* end, we're likely to see him as a character. just my thoughts on the show.... :)
TGM Tributes yep. so, all we can do is find that spot where most of the real life history of these people and events converge the most and fit best. while the 'urca' treasure sunk in 1715, no other character or event fits that year.
Season one starts off in 1715 as It literaly tells you in its sub lines at the very beginning of episode 1 and by season 3 it's 1718 as Woods Rogers arrives in Nassau in that year as portraid in season 3.
Is there something wrong with Spartacus? Pirates are badass so I don't see a problem there. Michael Bay is producing it. That doesn't mean he wrote or directed it. He just put up the money.
Driving me nuts, maybe I can get some help... the score going on between opening and 0:25. Like slow, building pipe music. I KNOW I've heard it before... but cannot place it.
I took a look to the map of assassins creed and if you look at the series its mostly the same lay-out oly they turned it around they have the beach camp and the fort all in the same place and same positions only the entrance is different in black flag its on the north part of the map
I'll give it a shot, for maybe 5 episodes and see of the actual content is as interesting as this trailer is, and not just a collection of special effects.
Never cared anything about pirates but this looks interesting. Maybe if I can manage to pull myself away from Vikings I'll take a look at it. Just hope it doesn't have a lot of pointless sex and nudity for shock value like Game of Thrones. I still love GoT but I get so damn tired of that. If I want porn I'll watch porn. well, heh heh, what do you think pirates did with their money? i think they throw some nudity in there for amusement, but, generally, it's part of a scene that's more raw and unabashed, like a pirate on the edge and having nothing to lose, than shying away from the language, nudity and sex to avoid 'offending' anyone. now, 'spartacus,' while very entertaining, was needlessly excessive at times, but it was still fun to watch and entertaining.
Ahmed bk it's not pointless if sex/nudity was a major aspecs of their lifestyle, and plot twists, while mostly for dramatic purposes, were pretty common in a pirate's life, too. if 'vikings' weren't a basic cable show it'd have more R-rated fare, too.
