It's Chrono Trigger taking place in a video game world and surprising deep. - The Rune Factory Games are farming simulations with live action combat and I've loved those more then Harvest Moon in the past. - Cat Quest 1 and 2 are great and can be a co-op rpg for CQ2! - Star Ocean First Departure (digital only but remake of the first one on the SNES we never saw here
It is a shame that the older Ys titles are locked behind XSEED's licensing. I can't imagine playing Ys Origin without Ys Books/Chronicles I and II but it is true Ys Origin is pretty good. I'd love to see Falcom release all the Ys games on Nintendo systems going forwards.
In April 2023, series have 15th Anniversary, but highly doubt it Sega make another game in series, because all of games flopped hard after release date. Sure VC1 and VC4 sold over 1 000 000 copies (VC1 in 2 000 000 copies if count all versions, this is Yakuza 0 sales - best selling game in series), but you must remember VC1 had huge boost in sales only after PC version rerelease for 20$, and VC4 was in many sales. And Sega going back now only to milking Sonic and Yakuza, they dont released any non Yakuza/Sonic new game after Sakura Wars in 2019 only on PS4. Still we dont know what happened with Shinobi/Sakura Wars 1-5/Skies of Arcadia/ Valkyria Chronicles developer - Sega Overworks / Sega WoW. They didnt made any new game after Valkyria Chronicles 4 in 2018, maybe Sega closed that studio due to underperforming sales.
@@nr2676 you do know the team can help other dev teams over at SEGA, right? this stuff happens ALL the time, so they can be busy on other projects while still brainstorming ideas for either a ValChro 5, a ValChro 2-3 remaster or anything new and original SEGA has been working their asses off in bringing back their dormant IPs for the past couple of years now, so it's only a matter of time until ValChro returns
@@martinde-serres8724 Yes they can, but i searched all games credits released after VC4, and there was no information about Sega WoW. Only people from Team Sonic, AM2, and RGG Studio. Somebody's hitting gyms are really good and I highly recommend purchasing their physical copy while there's still around especially the Y's series I believe origin is on sale for under $30. Also have you heard of Record of Lodoss War: wonder labyrinth? I feel that's a hidden gym too. It's almost the closest thing to playing symphony of the night on switch
Record of Lodoss War is really like Symphony of the Night according to reviews and I suspect it will become rare as it’s highly rated although short. I’ve been waiting for a price drop but your post forced me to just get it. Used my Amazon points to make it 13 bucks :)
Thanks for this bro! I finally bought a switch last week and your channel was the first thing I found when searching for what games I've missed out on all these years. Thinking of buying Undernauts , been hearing about it lately, i liked Demon Gaze, Stranger of Sword City , Savior of Sapphire Wing and Mon-Yu, and in a mood for playing a Old School DRPG. Plus Undernauts is on sale until the 3rd.
Absolutely loved Undernauts way more than I expected. I walked into a gamestop one day and they had it on a flash sale for $19.99! Needless to say I snagged it faster than you can say Mario Kart and enjoyed every second. I now hardly see copies of it anywhere for any system. Definitely a must play dungeon crawler.
Good list, no doubt. Some are even my favorites. But they arent hidden gems at all i think. They are titles which got a few recognition, but eventually forgotten or just looked over because of how many games get ported or added to switch.
Great list of hidden gems! I always trust OJ’s recommendations. I actually played both Valkyria games(1&4) earlier this summer and I Loved it. Ys origin looks interesting and… for some strange reason, I haven’t playe Ni No Kuni yet(!!)
You forgot about star ocean first departure. It was the last SNES game and it pushed it to its limits. Loved it on the psp and I bought it for the switch put in 30 plus hours in two days. Beat it. It’s a great shame nobody is playing this masterpiece on the switch. Can not wait for the new star ocean coming out in a few weeks
Nice video, I actually never even heart of Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi. I´m going to get that one, love me some dungeon-crawling RPGs. That genre seems to be in decline in popularity however. The Lost Child is also a nice dungeon-crawling RPG on Nintendo Switch, that game borrowed mechanics from Shin Megami Tensei.
If I might add another awesome JRPG that doesn't get enough love, it's definetly Monark. I 100% recommend it, it has great story (which is centered on the characters, think something like how Persona is structured), great combat and awesome music (the boss themes are reeeeeeally good). It also has a demo with the entire first chapter, so y'all do me a favor and try it XD And before I forget! I have Crosscode and Metal Max Xeno: Reborn but I have yet to play them because of my huge backlog. Thanks for making this video, OJ. Funny writing when you get off the main story in particular and just all out a good game I've put loads of hours in since I started playing it and it has loads of awesome quality of life features like when you go in a zone to earn more experience needed to level up your characters once you have been through and got maximum start you can put it on to auto run and select how many times. For example I picked 30 and left it half an hour to do other stuff and came back to a ton of experience. I highly reccomend it and its not pushy with micro payments
Sky is still available on Steam, so why would you wait for a remaster or a remake first? also, Falcom NEVER release the remaster/remakes of the Trails games in the West, especially when they were made on dead/dying platforms the Sky trilogy did get remasters on PS3 and Vita iirc, but those 2 were pretty much dead in the West already to even bother better grab them on PC via Steam cause Falcom have moved on to recent entries in the series and have no interest in revisiting them again
Call it laziness, but my favorite RPG’s are the turn-based where you don’t have to react; you simply input which move you wish to perform and that’s it (such as Pokémon, Golden Sun, and Bravely Default 2).
VC4 have better optimization, but VC1 still runs OK on Switch. Aside of when you crawling in grass or use smoke granade, then will you have a massive FPS drops. PC version of VC4 is worst, i have still ,,infinite scrolling bug'' in main menu (which means game is basically unplayable) and Sega still dont fixed that.
For 13 games I'm surprised you didn't add 13 Sentinels: Aiges Rim, easily one of the most underrated and greatest visual novels/strategy RPG of all time. If y'all haven't played that game, do yourselves a favor and pick it up, especially on the switch!
