Think of this: 42 years later, this track is to host the final weekend of the NASCAR series, with major improvements and the repurposing of the backstretch as the front straight.
My father was a car builder and driver in this series. I was 13. I remember Phoenix seeming like such a big time track back then. Looks like kind of a dump compared to race tracks now.

Formula Super-Vee were real race cars, for those racing on a tight budget. It was the lower rung of USAC/CART's ladder system. Back in the day even ol' AJ, Parnelli and Mario stated their career's in midget race cars.
Real race cars ? Someone hold my beer.....let me tell you something Barbie ....when your ass is two inches off the pavement and you're doing 150 diving into a corner next to a other driver for track position you're on the very edge of control of your car and the guy who breathes first loses a position , the pucker factor is so high you couldn't even pass a greased BB through your ass. And since it is plainly obvious you have never driven a race car then shut the fuck up and sit the fuck down.....friggin girlie man .....now where in the hell is my beer.😁
And how much racing experience do you have in any race car? With that foolish statement, my guess is none. You don’t have the balls it takes to drive one of these cars. Trust me, because I have.
Here we are 45 years later and still no rear engine affordable ladder series!
RIP Gary Bettenhausen, Tommy Thompson, & Chris Economaki.
And Herm Johnson also.

Loved the scientific way they were putting track-dry on the track.

5:00 - Gotta love that funky 70's backing music!

March 18, 1978: I turned 12 on that day!
not that save, as the life of Tim Richmond tells us.
Tim Richmond died of AIDS, not of a racing accident.
