The first time i went to Silverstone was in May 1971 for the International trophy. it was a mix of F1 and F5000 with most of the top GP teams there. it was won by Graham Hill in the Brabham BT34 lobster claw, his last win in an F1 car. a well driven F5000 car could mix it with the F1 guys quite well, and they sounded fantastic. ten shillings and sixpence to get in, cheapest ticket. oh happy days.

Farkin' better to watch than Formula 1 anyday. The Trans Tasman Series from '71 - '75 featuring the V8 powered cars was all class to watch I believe. Close and exciting racing and each year seem to get better and better. I was 11 years old in '74 when I first attended the Trans Tassie 'Peter Stuyvesant Series' over here across the ditch in New Zealand at the Teretonga Park circuit at the bottom of the South Island in Invercargill. I biked out to the track that was located about 10km west of Invercargill. I could hear the Formula 5000 cars from in the city on a good westerly wind...The sound sent shivers up and down my spine so I jumped on my bike and rode out to the track. When I saw the Formula 5000 cars racing, the collective sound vibrated the ground when cars came past where I sat on the ground and I was hooked/addicted to Formula 5000. Still am at 55.

I remember watching the F5000 races at the Australian F1 GP at Albert Park a few times. They have since stopped them.
I thought they were fantastic, these 5 litre v8's going hard at it.
They should at least bring them back for 1 day and have at least 2, if not 3 races on that day, perhaps a Thursday or Friday of the GP weekend.
