R.I.P. Maine and Dorio. The good times with the whole gang were short but so meaningful. Definitely the best episode in edgerunners. I love how cyberpychosis is a take on mental health on fucking bathsalts both in the show and the game. And it's still debated on whether psychotic breaks are all in their head or really because of the chrome from the lore.
I feel like the game + show paint a pretty clear picture that it's just serious mental illness that develops because of generally how horrible Night City is to live in. Everyone feels inadequate and expendable, everyone lives in constant fear for their lives and the lives of their loved ones, etc. Some cyberware seems to cause brain damage over time which accelerates the symptoms of the mental illness; this is pretty accurate to real life. That's why Lucy can "bring David back" in the final episode, because she's a real human connection that he has, and he trusts her, so she can calm him down. It's practically psych 101 I imagine a lot more people are having freakouts in Night City, but most people who do have them don't have a bunch of cyberware that makes them effective killing machines, so they don't get called cyberpsychos. Ditto if they freak out in a non-violent way, then they're not called cyberpsycho even if the underlying problem is the same. I absolutely love how complex an issue this is within the setting.
I just love the concept of the human brain being incapable of handling too much augmentations. Early versions of cyberpsychosis were first presented in the 70's in novels like Cyborg and it has maintained overt time with little to no changes. Cyberpunk fiction culture is amazing.
@@EdgarTheOgre He's actually not wrong. Dementia is defined as a 'group of thinking and social symptoms that interfere with daily living' and a 'group of conditions characterized by the impairment of at least two brain functions, such as memory loss and judgement'. Cyberpsychosis definitely fits the bill of a form of dementia since it impedes the affected's ability to feel empathy for other human beings, to the point where many cyberpsychos simply view other living creatures as animals or meat. It also causes hallucinations and schizophrenic episodes, drastically affecting their memory, decision making processes, motor functions, and even their basic ability to perceive reality. Now if you're equating that to senility, which is itself another form of dementia, then that's apples and oranges; both are still fruit.
@@Brutalyte616 cyberpsychosis IRL is called psychosis, which is not even close to dementia. And senility is just the natural deterioration of cognitive function that comes with age, another thing altogether. So no to all the things you wrote in that essay of yours.
@@EdgarTheOgre Yes, senility is caused by the natural deterioration of cognitive function resulting from age, but when it progresses to a certain stage it's also considered a form of dementia. Cyberpsychosis typically manifests in symptoms that would be in line with schizophrenia and not textbook psychosis, although it can progress that far because psychosis is defined as 'a severe mental condition in which thought and emotions are so affected that contact with external reality is lost'. That sounds an awful lot like dementia, so I say once again; apples and oranges are both fruit.
Honestly Lucy going for the nanowire instead of big bazooka gorilla arms is the play. Small and efficient and ya won't go psycho. If we ever get a season 2 I hope they explore that more, it's a hard ask to top these 10 episodes though. Great story telling.
Everyone laments episode 10 but a definite runner up or second saddest is episode 6 you don't see it coming and then like maine drops you so hard but truly RIP Dorio and Maine 😤😤🫡🫡👀👀🥲🥲
Because it makes the audience finally understand what the world of Cyberpunk is. Nobody's safe, and all the fun and gags in between jobs are all they had. Episode 6 is great because it's a sudden tragedy with no big build-up, only small subtle hints in the previous episodes. It's a reminder to everyone that tomorrow's never promised and how quickly life can change.
Just started playin the game cuz of this show and the game itself doesn’t convey the hopelessness of night city and the horror of cyberpychosis like edgerunners does. Cyberpychos just feel like a mini boss but with this episode in mind I feel bad about puttin em down😪
It's kind of hilarious, seeing the trauma team get fragged so badly like this when they let Gloria almost died on the road cus she didn't have a high stat healthcare and now their lives are worth less than folder

The saddest part is that it is reversible smh

@@Wveth Well in Cyberpunk Lore especially in the table top it is a lot more gray and less cut and dry. Allowing for it to be interpreted.

IRL it’s called Dementia
@@boogie1434 Oh yeah, I forgot when my grandpa got dementia for all those robotics he had implanted. Silly me.

This episode was a complete masterpiece
Rest in peace Maine and Dorio. You are gone but never forgotten 😭

welp there is no season 2 sadly
The people who were saying they didn't care about the platinum package guy was maxtech. They were arguing with the Trauma team.
Regular NCPD i think at that point.
maxtac wasnt yet at the scene
Cyberpunk is such a dope IP. Never would want to live there though
This episode was too powerful. Really defined the tone of this show. There wasn't gonna be a happy end to this 😭

We can only wish
Cyberpunk certainly had the stories and events like this. Just not the AI and rest.
