BaltimoreAndOhioRR I was at Harpers Ferry for only about 1 1/2 and those 3 trains came within the first hour so I consider that to be a good day in my book. The drive there and back was very pleasant too. There was some type of maintenance work further east so that might have been part of the reason for the lack of westbound traffic.
MrImpossiblyBlack yeah, you made out well. hf can be fairly busy, but just like st denis, some times you can go there and see nothing for several hours!
These engines get around, don't they?! Everything was eastbound while you were there? That's odd. But at least you saw a few!

When the curfew was in place on the line; it was an awesome time to be on the line.
You get all the traffic headed from Cumberland (hence the name) and almost all traffic headed through Baltimore.
We're back now to 75% of the traffic running at night :(
Beautiful spot! Great weather that day!

You should've been here when this line had a curfew at the Harper's Ferry tunnel. Trains were running through here like clockwork from 8 am thru 8 pm.
