    That was lovely! I haven't ridden the S&C for nearly 50 years - I used the DalesRail trains in their first couple of years so I could go walking in Dentdale & Garsdale.

    That brought back a few happy memories, thank you "The Man". I used the Settle and Carlisle line a lot in the early 1960s to get to and from work in Carlisle.

    Hello There, this is a really decent journey, which is very scenic and very well detailed. The Route is very picturesque and I do like the little details it has. Cheers Peter :) p.s. thank you for sharing this.

    What a wonderful journey and landscape. I really wish lots of commercial success to the Staycation Express - it seems a great way to enjoy this beautiful region and I hope to be able to make a video about it too soon :)

    Thanks for posting! On several visits to the UK, I’ve managed to ride this arguably, most scenic line in England several times. On most of the trips it was raining, so well done on the weather!

      Indeed! Last time, on a service train, it was dull and overcast. This time, superb, and opening droplights make all the difference to photos and video.

      @@davidwallace5831 These lovely seats were specified by GWR and not by the Government... Not to worry, it's not as if the government wasn't about to take even more control... oh, wait....

    • @franciscobermejo1779
      @franciscobermejo1779 3 года назад

      @@tonymiles3303 Wait, you mean seat specifications were dictated by some kind of regulation? Or does the government own GWR? Sorry about my ignorance 😅. How anyone though such an important part of the travel experience (especially on a premium product) as seat comfort was acceptable with those seats is really beyond me...

    Thank you for this video. In particular thank you for showing the station building at Dent. The Friends of the Settle and Carlisle recently restored this building. Much of the money cam from a legacy left by Dr John Disney, who was a close friend of mine (I am Roger Sexton.) John died at the very early age of 58.

    Delightful reminder of my trip 3 years ago (Sept.2018). I experienced both the Settle and Carlisle (although not on quite as brilliant a day as yours) and the comfort of those 1st class GWR HST cars. I venture to suggest that those drop windows at the doors may be quite popular on sunny days for photographers and videographers and that there may need to be some management of access for safety reasons given HST speeds, although I'm sure this could be done using voluntary individual car captains (from the Friends group) and with reduced speed at certain beauty locations. I particularly liked your coverage of crossing the Ribblehead Viaduct and the approach to Lazenby and Kirkoswald. The latter station was one that I saw much more of than usual as my Class 158 (coincidentally the 10 49 ex Leeds) was stranded there for some time due to trees blocking the line ahead following the big storm that caused mayhem across the UK in mid Sept.2018. Thanks for the memories and I wish this year's Staycation Express every success. Cheers from Melbourne in Australia.

    And that, Ladies and Gentlemen of the TOC's, is how you do a 1st class seat! Pay attention

    • @tonymiles3303
      @tonymiles3303 3 года назад

      Nothing to do with the TOCs - essentially these show why the Government should never be involved with specifying train seats (as it did with the Azumas etc.). The TOCs are fully aware - the minions in Westminster aren't...

    Would love to see the HST sets running a regular service between Carlisle and Leeds all the time... Before the pandemic, I used to go to the K&WVRly and the journey in those 156/8’s we're cramped, noisy and often full (of football fans and hen parties) by the time it reached Keighley...

    Once had snow in June at Blea Moor.
    The line from Settle Junction to Lancaster, Morecambe and Heysham Port is quite a nice ride too, but Heysham No. 1 nuclear power station has got to be just about the ugliest building in England.

    This concept needs to be broadened to be year-round with different route options. There is a large enough leisure market of retired folk who enjoy this type of travel and be willing to pay a premium, particularly for dining.
