I love M.A.S.K. It seems like the perfect bridge between Transformers and G.I. Joe. Wish I had more growing up. Never got Switchblade.
I got a complete Switchblade box and all almost 3 years ago! A childhood holy grail!

Brilliant video Michael. I have the entire set of M.A.S.K. vehicles and playsets all 100% complete. Just a bit of friendly advice as regards transforming Switchblade back into helicopter mode. Before you fold the wings back, leave the tail fin up, then fold the wings back and lastly put the tail fin back down and the little tabs will hold the wings in. It's just that those tabs do break if you don't transform it back properly. Thankfully Shapeways make excellent replacement tabs.

Back then my brother got Switchblade and Thunderhawk and I got Rhino for Christmas. The sound of those wing springs really take me back.
M.A.S.K. was amazing & is definitely under appreciated.
I used to have Switchblade too.
Would LOVE for a manufacturer to produce the line, with modern engineering & articulation…..at a reasonable price of course, hahaha.

you have inspired my use of the word wholesome because that is the missing piece with everyday life, but all your content even if the IP you're talking about i'm unaware of. i become interested in it because of that wholesome'ness and genuine care in your videos and the topics you're talking about. people who are interested in things are always interesting people in general and that is seen in the content you create. keep up the great work and may the tribe stay strong.
My friends and I went M.A.S.K. crazy and we played with them during indoor recess in the winter. I was on the Venom team (yes we divided up) and I had Manta and Stinger. I also had Raven for when I had to fill in as a good guy. Great toys!
I had some of these toys. I only had Sly Rax and the Piranha and Rax with Pit Stop. The Piranha was my favorite of the M.A.S.K. toys. I would like to have it again to display. I think this line really needs a reboot.
Switchblade is the best in whole MASK series.. both helicopter and jet are also looks cool . Unlike others vehicles will looks a bit strange after transformed .

One of my favourite toys of my childhood. Unfortunately for me as a kid the clips that hold the wings back snapped off, due to over use. Not sure if anyone else had that problem.
I had that problem with some of the Power Rangers toys of the 90s. I transformed the Megazords everyday when I played and the weak plastic clips just broke away eventually hahahaha. Used sticky tack to hold everything together.

Another top M.a.s.k review! Switchblade was one of the best/iconic vehicles in that line (Piranha is also a good one to get if you can) and I recently managed to get my hands on a decent example from Ebay (I foolishly sold my childhood one a decade ago). I found a mixture of washing up liquid and warm water applied with an electric toothbrush cleaned it up a treat. I also got some replacement stickers from a dude in Australia which made my switchblade look as good as new.
Thank you! Hadn't thought of getting repro stickers for it. I tried using soap water on a Joe vehicle once and it left spots all over it. Heard that's a common thing. You didn't end up with any spots?
@@MichaelMercy No, no spots I had never even knew there was a danger of that happening. I guess it depends on the type of washing up liquid. I’ve cleaned all my M.A.S.K, Action Force, Star Wars, Ghost Busters and transformers without a problem. But I’ll be more cautious in the future.
The report stickers are really good, I’ve used them on my Piranha, Jackhammer, Gator, Condor and Thunderhawk. There are a few differences between the repro and original but nothing obvious. And they were very fairly priced (around 5-8 euros a sheet) with combined shipping.

Nice to see Switchblade with the stickers on it. Mine is MIB with stickers still unapplied, so i don’t wanna apply the stickers at this point. But it’s very cool to see it in all its proper decal glory. Great video Micheal. M.A.S.K never disappoints

I had this for xmax 8-something.
Had to return to the show twice as the wing catches broke. Super weak. Loved that model, still in my loft.
Everytime Vanessa became the co-pilot of Switchblade, under Miles' permission throughout the Episodes.
Mask was easily up there with Masters, TF, Bravestarr, Dino Riders, Ghostbusters and so on.
Fun fact miles mayhem and M.A.S.K. made an appearance in the IDW transformers comics

IMO. Mask is extremely underrated. I can honestly say I was the only one in my family and grade school class that was into Mask
I don’t remember anyone having it either.
The toys were a pretty interesting blend of GI Joe and Transformers, but sadly the lore was just so forgettable. Kenner just didn’t bother investing in good writing like Hasbro did. I think that goes a long way to explaining the line’s lack of success
I grew up in England and I remember M.a.s.k being massive back in 85/86. I had all the vehicles from the first season and a few from the second but then the line dried up a bit. The second season of the cartoon was a let down and the toys were not great (billboard blast, the pitstop).
And possibly the best cartoon theme music ever! 😎
This was the second MASK toy I had as a kid, after Thunderhawk.
My Switchblade is in remarkable good shape, all things considered. The big issue is the tailfin won't lock in the "up" position; still one of my favorites of any toy line.
Sadly, Thunderhawk didn't fair as well and I no longer have it. Score one for VENOM I guess. Thanks so much for sharing this! Another awesome intro as well!
I stand corrected: I just got the tailfin to lock in, but just like yours, the rotors won't lock at the front. It got lots of use when I was a kid, so I'm not complaining.

Great review as always!!! I guess you know it but you didn’t mentionned that you have a first gen toy right there!! Later versions had masks with a hole in the top and right below the face (the black line below the visor was hollow) because of choke hasard. Real cool!! Cheers from Quebec!

Great video Michael. A reissue of this toy line would be amazing and I hope for it to happen, but do you make an updated original or do a 1:18 scale?
It would be an amazing scale for MASK, especially to have Joe sized figures, but the drawback would be the cost since the vehicles would be huge.

This was easily my favorite MASK vehicle and least favorite figure. The Vehicle looked cool in both modes but the figure only looked cool with the mask on. Without the mask he looked like boss hog to me and I didn't want to play with boss hog. I put the mask on and left it on forever.
Got my Switchblade quite a few years ago off ebay. My blades don’t stay down either. The spring is too strong for the worn out plastic tab to hold it. Kinda bummed that one of the wings sticks and doesn’t flip out as easy as the other one but hell, it’s 35 years old! Tours is in great condition that the wings flip out strong. Super hard to find in primo condition because they are so expensive. O didn’t realize Miles killed Matt’s brother! I just thought they were old business partners. The evil bad guys in military uniforms were the thing back in the 80’s. Probably a not-so-subtle correlation to real life bad guys of the time like Castro, Hussein and Khadafi. Think about it 🇺🇸

The only M.A.S.K. I had as a kid was Brad Turner/Condor. I wished I had more. I liked M.A.S.K. because it seemed to me like it was a hybrid of GI Joe and Transformers.
I had switchblade at one point as a child. But unfortunately it got shot down by mask and I took lighter fluid and matches and set it on fire. I was so stupid as a boy. Lol

That blue and red color on switchblade makes me think of Thundercracker's colors.
Makes me think a recolor in Skywarp's colours would have been cool.

The Mask Switchblade is a very cool vintage toy. I like the blue and red color on it. The converting and weapons feature on it is so cool. Miles Mayhem is a nice action figure, the face and body sculpting design is good.

God, I loved MASK back in the day. Unfortunately, it's pretty impossible to get them in good condition and at a decent price now. So here is hoping they will be re-issued soon (at least some of the core vehicles).

M.A.S.K. toys were so neat. Maybe some of it had to do with their vehicles being mostly regular vehicles like a Camaro and a Jeep. I missed out on Switchblade but got Miles Mayhem with the Outlaw. 1985 was the best year for toys and it was aggravating to try to cover all the lines I wanted; just a couple of years before that, I only thought about Star Wars.

Does anyone know how MASK figured scales with the Dino-Rider figures, never had MASK only Dino Riders.

I wish the MASK style scaling wasn't so niche. I'm way too young to have experienced MASK but I did have Transformers Human Alliance figures and I grew to love the smaller guys incorporating on the bots.
Yeah I think that's what hurt it, not compatible with GI Joe or Star Wars.

Thunderhawk's probably the best place to start. You can still get them for fairly cheap, especially if the underneath bombs are missing, which aren't really necessary. Just make sure the tires aren't broken, it's common on them now.
i wish they would bring this line back at the 6 inch size, with vehichles, id pay the needed price to support them
