Yeah, I will concede that there is basically nothing in Kelfkey's original design that indicates that it steals things, like Jacob made it look more malicious which does do a better job of indicating that, even though Klefkey is not meant to be malicious it steals things to hide not to be a jerk, but, I feel like it does kind of get lost in translation when other pokemon have objects attached to them or that they hold that are seemingly just part of their body or at least that they have since they are born, so by comparison Kelfkey could just be normal keys just from looking at it, this is part of the reason why I try not to judge pokemon until I know the lore, cause especially in later gens the lore is usually better than the actual design, lmao

And freaking Jolteon, a lightning dog-fox-cat knows pin missle which is a bug type move, I know it has pins on it, but following that logic why is pin missle even a bug type move at all? Though to be fair to Jacob, Magikarp and Gyradose are literally based on a Japanese myth about fish jumping over waterfalls to turn into dragons, so while the logic is technically wrong, the POINT IS CORRECT
@@vlinderfin They're also based on kite/windsocks which is why he flies like he does but can't carry passengers. Plus dragons have to have talons in Japanese myth as well.

Yeah, I will concede that when compared to other mons who do just have objects that are part of their body or are present from birth it does look like it could just be keys and because it's meant to be sort of innocent and not doing anything bad on purpose rather than explicitly malicious like Jacob's is, the design doesn't really do much to characterize it as a thief, but that is kind of part of the point of it's character and stuff, so yeah

In response to Julia saying there should be a Pokemon called "Koiking", that's literally Magikarp's Japanese name iirc.
Julia accidentally named a real Pokemon name (albeit in Japanese), and Jacob accidentally perfectly described the Pokemon he was trying to fix. I enjoy this symmetry in their relationship.

Not a rabbit expert, but I'd say jackrabbits could fit as the "big scary rabbit." They're much bigger than you'd expect, uncannily long, and they have fucked up goat eyes.
Looked up to see, yeah they are uncomfortably long. Based on pictures it also looks like they fucking stand and walk, the least rabbit form of land-based locomotion.
I always liked that one meme describing lagomorphs and how they can be sweet round bois, or feral wilderness prophets who have gone mad with the knowledge of the universe

they're also unrelated to rabbits, they just happen to look similar. Lions and tigers are more genetically compatible than rabbits and jackrabbits, who cannot interbreed and even have different gestation periods. They're completely different species. It's hog wild

Yeah I did find that funny, my first thought was about how Jolteon gets freaking pin missle which is a bug type move, it's a lightning dog-cat-fox thing with a bug type move, I know it's because it has pins but following that logic why is pin missed even a bug type move at all, bugs aren't the only animals with pins you know, but on the other hand Magikarp and Gyradose are literally based on a Japanese myth about fish jumping over waterfalls to turn into dragons so while the moveset doesn't make it a dragon type, the lore definitely should

Natu is a totem pole
it's really funny how they were describing the kind of Pokémon that Klefki *should* be when it already is a little fairy that steals your keys. The keys are not part of its body. It stole those. The ring on its body is able to unclip and it is actually long noodly arms that it just keeps in a loop shape while it is holding the keys.
Jacob after having spent a solid 5 minutes just saying wrong stuff about Klefki: "I'm saying so much wrong stuff about rabbits lol I bet rabbit experts will come for me"

Ya, it's a kleptomaniac fairy that steals keys. It's a great concept and I always let people know about that when they bring up that Klefki is "just keys", but it's just not communicated visually very well that it steals the keys, so it's still not a successful design I guess

@BenHazel007 Yeah, I will concede that it does kind of get lost in translation, especially when there's other pokemon that have objects that are just part of their body like ... from the moment of birth, and Jacob making it look more malicious does characterize it better as a thief, but it also kind of eradicates the original personality of it being just a guy who steals things to blend in rather than be a jerk, like I get that making it look malicious makes it look more like a thief, but like ... it's not MEANT to be malicious though, the concept is that it's like those animals that use things in their surroundings as their camouflage, like those crabs that put sponges and kelp on their back to hide, but because it lives in a more urban setting it uses objects to hide, and since it's also like a little house fae creature it uses keys, so it's not meant to be like a little scamp, it just happens to inconvenience people by accident which is why it looks so innocent, but I understand that that does make it harder to read at first glance

The problem with Jacobs concept for Klefki, aside from the fact that he didnt seem to understand it already does steal keys, is that if you make any fairy type to nefarious, it just becomes dark type. The intention isnt that hes a little stinker taking your shit, its a mystical creature that wisk away your keys, which is why it holds onto a small collection of keys its attatched to as opposed to hording them.
Also, he drew a physical attacker instead of a special attacker that focuses on prankster abilities.

That's what I was thinking too! He said maybe it steals keys, and I was like ... doesn't it already do that ??? Isn't that like the entire original concept, that it steals keys to use to hide among household objects like weird camouflage, like those crabs that put stuff on their backs to blend in, but it's just freaking keys, I guess you wouldn't know that unless you listened to it's dex entries since there's nothing in the design alone that suggests it is a theif, it doesn't look malicious or anything, cause it's not supposed to be, but I will concede that out of context it does just kinda look like the keys are just a part of it's body especially since there are pokemon that are like that, but they're not, they're stolen keys, like you said, lmao
For real, the Vanillite line is right there as far as uninspired designs with no explanation goes. A ghost pokemon that camouflaged itself to look like keys makes more sense than an ice pokemon that has existed since the ice age but inexplicably looks like ice cream in a cone.
@syntext Well according to the lore, the Vanillite line were actually the inspiration for the ice cream cone, which I think is pretty funny actually

@@SuperstrenghtPorygon It doesn't look like the other members were aware of Julia's bit. I honestly believe she just practiced drawing Spheal's silhouette for the bit. She is a great artist, I'm sure she could pull that off despite being known for not being able to remember what characters look like lol.
EDIT: Also, there's the possibility she pulled up a reference on the spot, making sure the others couldn't see it. If you look closely you'll notice that the silhouette isn't quite an exact match.

Fun fact, the Portuguese Man O' War isn't a jellyfish, but a type of creature called a siphonophopre! Siphonophores are basically colonies of micro-organisms making up one singular creature, each micro-organism having their own specific function!
The weird fin on the Man O' War's back actually functions like a sail, catching the wind while it floats on the ocean surface, and the transparent part connected to the sail helps it float Below the water, it uses it's tentacles to attract, trap, and consume prey. The tentacles are about 30ft on average but can reach up to 100ft long!
And yes, their sting is one of the most painful, but it's rarely deadly, and a decent amount of people stung by them are stung after they wash up on shore.
I'm a big marine bio fan, so I just wanted to take the opportunity to talk about them since I really like siphonophores :3

24:22 Something I find rather interesting is that a lot of the early anthro and "fem-coded" Pokemon design have a 1F:1M ratio whilst a lot of the later anthro and "fem-coded" designs actually have a 1F:7M ratio, which i find rather funny as it kinda suggests that Gamefreak began catching on to the fact that people were awooga-ing over certain Pokemon designs and their only solution to it was to just make the new anthro and "fem-coded" designs mostly male as if that alone was somehow going to stop people from turning into Looney Toon Wolf in Suit

Hello, I come bearing fun animal facts! The Portuguese man o’ war or blue bottle is a close relative of jellyfish but not actually a jellyfish (it’s a colonial organism like coral) and it has a sting that is very painful but not typically deadly to humans. As far as “worst jellyfish to run into,” you want the box jellyfish, which has a sting that you need speedy medical care to survive. Both are found by Australian beaches because of course they are.
glaucus atlanticus is a beautiful sea slug that eats man o war and absorbs the toxins to use themselves for defense. their sting therefore is very similar to that of a man o war’s!

Update: I care about jumpluff!!! They’re just a near-weightless pollen puff that floats on the breeze through forests and plains with its friends and family!! But I’m also just a big mushball for gen 2 pokemon. They’re perfect in my eyes.
Jacob really looked at his Pokémon, pointed at the existing lore he previously ignored, and said, "I did this." Like, he got the meaning of his Pokémon's name exactly as Game Freak intended and thought it was an original idea! I cannot wait for him to realize this, because it's exactly the same stuff he calls out other people for 😂

Klefki is actually a pretty inspired design as it is living fairy metal that steals people’s people’s keys. It also gets its Klef name part from its key but also music note shape and keyhole mouth that looks like a cleft pallet!

When they were talking about big, scary rabbits, all I could think of was kangaroos. They're not at all rabbits, but their appearance and main deal is rabbit adjacent. They're hoppy bois with long ears. And they're big and scary.

Honestly, each of them redesigning the same pokemon as a speed draw sounds like a really cool episode.

klefki is actually a really strong support pokemon in every generation its allowed in, to the point where i put it on uber teams for its screen + thunderwave support, so i've kinda fallen in love with the lil guy
