It’s funny how tastes change through the years. When I was learning to play back in the 80’s, that ringy tone was considered undesirable. Everyone wanted a dry cracking backbeat. I learned to tune for that sound and it was hard to unlearn it later.
It is fun to play a snare wide open like that...but if you are close mic'd, that ring with a specific pitch will most likely be a problem...live or studio.
I know the black beauty is very popular, but I don’t like the sound of the ring.Everybody’s got their preference some people like the ring.I like the Big R Rogers dynasonic Chrisp punchy dry sound.
