    Thanks for taking the time to post this video ( even if it is almost 7 years old)..it just solved a huge problem I was having trying to figure out how to make a slide out bed..your idea with the casters was brilliant!!

      Thanks mike, when I made this video there was not much on RUclips for bed slides.. much has changed since then. Thanks for the comments

    going to build something similar for my 80 series land cruiser - loved your design! Simple and functional. Only additional design constraint is to make it removable so I can still utilize the 3rd row seat when desired. Thanks for the video! It was definitely helpful.

    This is a bad ass tool bed you've made. I'm inspired now to do the same so I don't have to move my tools around in the back seat. Thanks for sharing!

    Nice work. Everything has a place and is organized. Best part is it keeps your tools out of sight from thief.

      Thank you, yeah looking at through the canopy it just looks like a raised bed. I will be adding a tailgate lock that will work with my alarm so it will be secure. Thanks for commenting, Cheers!

    Like the lights and the air compressor idea. Actually liked the whole thing but the compressor adds extra convenience. What was our family full size Ford van has become my mobile work Mobile and part time kid carrier. Using your ideas will make it safer when I do haul kids for the church and such. I have 2 top boxes for roll around tool cabinets that I carry and are always a hassle. I'd like to put one on top of the other and have them on different drawer slides and add your air compressor idea to the mix with the bottom drawers as well for power tools. At present time I make my oldest son organize that mess every couple of weeks as some punishment. I know he would love this idea and will be glad to help me fit and build it up. I hope he is more organized as a worker than I am. Being around me gives him reason to do his stuff organized.

    Very cool. I plan on having 2 drawer slides and a top bed slide also. I've also thought about framing over the top bed slide for extra storage for a ladder and other things. I love your idea with the light.

    Hey Matt, that's a really cool and exclusive project, well done man!
    I mean exclusive because, people fabricate their own drawers but without a sliding "table" on top of it, like the way you made yours.
    Having that sliding table open a lot of possibilities, you can set your saw or whatever you need and use it like a work surface, etc.
    I'm going to "copy" your design and fabricate mine in a metal version, maybe steel or even aluminium, not sure yet.
    The empty spaces on both sides still good for some storage, such like small itens/tools.
    Well, that's it brother and thanks for sharing.

      Awesome Ben, appreciate the comment. When I made the video there was very little out there in the way of bed slides. It still holds strong as a solid design in my opinion. Happy building!

    This is a really nice build.
    I've been looking at a lot of styles trying to come up with a way to eliminate the need for the space for the rollers. I am leaning toward incorporating in-line skate rollers bolted inside the drawer side through the bottom allowing what ever distance needed to clear the floor. Is this doable?

    • @MattKinnee
      @MattKinnee  5 лет назад

      Larry Be thanks Larry, sound like your idea could work. I would suggest having a base plan... then plan on changing it 10-20 times during the build 😆

    Your drawers need to be 2” deeper for tool clearance & extra drawer storage. Not a fan of casters or steel rollers, I’ve seen 2 techniques Thant work well, 1) use cabinet ply & wax the edges, 2) use Teflon or plastic cutting boards cut in 1” strips, using no mechanical drawer slides...Murphy’s Law, what ever can happen will happen! If you have to unload a well packed truck bed to service/ change a stuck or broken roller or caster you will get wisdom, graahopper! :Good build! Shalom!

      I would have used like 1'' 90deg aluminum rails on the side of the drawers. The plywood ones are starting to show signs of wear. It was all I had at the time, so I made do. Cheers!

    what size compressor are you running and what tools ?

    • @MattKinnee
      @MattKinnee  8 лет назад

      It's a smaller 33% duty cycle compressor with a 3gallon holding tank. I use my brad nailer, tire inflation tools, and occasionally my spiker gun, and it works well with this setup.
