right. it's because it's a flash in the pan game because he was bored and needed content because destiny didn't.
@@marty_mcfly_jr helldives maintains an incredible player count. Its not a flash in the pan game lmao.
@@loopygordo unfortunately, that could change soon with this news
@@marty_mcfly_jr it has more players than destiny. Double the count even sometimes
Sony watched BattleState Games (creators of Tarkov) piss off their entire community within a day and said “bet we can do it faster.”
Not even remotely similar. Paywalling exclusive features behind hundreds of dollars compared with asking people to sign up to something as part of a $40 dollar game. One is annoying the other is egregious greed.
@@robfit’s not just “annoying” for the people who can’t create PSN accounts in their country and thus can’t play the game they payed for. At least the Tarkov expansion is optional.
Edit: and it is about greed. Sony wants this because it lets them take a higher percentage of revenue from purchases on steam, and they can sell the data from those making an account for a profit.
The problem is that players are being FORCED to create an account to play a game that isn't on Sony's platform. No other PS game has this requirement.
This tactic doesn't benefit PC players in any way whatsoever. F! Sony!
@@robf they have been caught changing there own ToS after the fact because they got corrected on twitter with proof (webarchive dont lie) they rug pulled and F'd over like 60 countries because they ILLEGALLY sold a product they knew they couldnt support with PSN being a non option in those countries oh and Sony breaching GDPR rules by forcing us to link a PSN account with steam to access an online service that was already granted so by there own admission of waivering the requirement for 3 months they open themselves up to the EU on a GDPR fine which isnt cheap and EU take that VERY seriously.
Sony can shove it on this move if they think im linking my PSN to steam they can F off
@@kogden8110 You are misinformed. Irrespective of your location you can create a PSN account. There is nothing stopping anyone from playing the game they paid for. The issue was for some regions you'd have to select a country that didn't match your location and could technically be in violation of TnCs. Sure harvesting email address on a forty buck game is the same as trying to charge $250 for exclusive PvE content. 👍
PSN is unavailable in 118 countries, including the Baltic states...who just so happen to be members of the EU. The only alternative is to use a VPN to create fake credentials, which is a direct violation of Sony's terms of service. America has horrible digital consumer rights, but the EU takes it VERY seriously. This could legitimately be grounds for legal action.
EDIT: Steam has now delisted Helldivers in over 100 countries and is approving refunds regardless of playtime. This is directly impacting Sony's wallet now.
the main reason i changed my review to negative.
that sony has data breaches so often that you can practically set your watch to it is another one entirely.

Helldivers 2 devs tell the community to review bomb the game ... One of their strategies to pressure Sony
Not a Dev, a community manager, who's not so great at his job anyway. Could even cost him his job.
@@FcoEnriquePerez I'm pretty sure the CEO is okay with that strat. As for costing him his job... I think his job will likely be safe at Arrowhead, at least until his contract is up. Then he'll likely have a harder time finding a new position.

"This decision would help us ban players"
2 of the community moderators that have both been employed by arrowhead since the first helldivers said this. Can people please stop cutting companies slack and just blaming higher ups all the time
Yea even the CEO doesnt seem okay with this decision of account linkling
He also said stop playing it. If players really want change they should heed that. looking at Steam DB, there has only been a dip of 5k players at peak since the announcement. Given the downward trend happening even prior to the account linking debaucle, that 5k drop could just be natural attrition and not due to the backlash. Players love to complain, but can't seem to put the game down. Mixed messaging.
if they end up requireing me to have a psn account for destiny thatll be the nail in the coffin for me. im not gonna be apart of their next yearly data breach

Not just credential data breaches anymore either. Sony is pushing one of the most insanely intrusive anti cheats in all of gaming. So the future data breaches could compromise a metric ton of user data for each individual account. Sony is downright dangerous for its customers and their data.

@@gargathulothhastur4981 You mean the higher ups in Bungie? The ones who made all the decisions that have caused issues for the company?
The tldr is that a corporation (most likely sony) is forcing players to link a psn account to their helldivers profile. This change also occured when sony made changes to their EULA regarding their games on steam. This means that players in regions that cant make a psn account at all due to restrictions there will effectively be banned from playing the game they already paid money for without ever being able to do the things they need to be allowed to keep playing the game
This is considered fraud in multiple countries and additionally can also be considered a customer rights, tos and breach of contract violation by sony at the international level.
Meaning there is currently grounds for Sony to be sued by over 200,000 individuals at a minimum across 30+ countries for a rough estimate of hundreds of billions of dollars and lawyers from across the world have already begun preparing to file suits
Thanks for explaining, I was having trouble understanding why it’s such a big deal, I know lots of games ask you to make an account on login
The change didn't occur when Sony made the EULA change because there was no change. From the moment preorders where announced it was made clear that you would need a PSN account to play the game. If you bought it on Steam day 1 you needed to make one. The issue was that the launch of Helldivers was awful and one of the problems was trying to link your PSN account crashed the game. So they disabled the requirement while stating that it was a temporary disable. Players just either ignored it or missed it but that isn't on Sony or Arrowhead that is on gamers not actually paying attention.
The only legit thing to call Sony/Arrowhead out on is selling the game to areas that wouldn't be able to play it, that is scummy. But there was no changing of the requirements.
@@mattf8779 I assume in territories without legal access to a PSN account it will just allow you skip registration. In fairness they ought to have foreseen trying to implement it at a later date would upset some section of the player base. They should have offered some crazy weapon as a sign up incentive, ppl still would have been mad because it's the internet but less mad I guess. If there are any benefits to requiring registration for banning players they should have set up an 'international' sign up for everyone not in an existing territory prior to launch, poor implementation and communication on this front.

Helldivers fans -- we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward.

I may have gotten bored and tired of Helldivers, but Arrowhead stays taking massive Ws. Sony on the other hand.. Classic Sony, ruining a great game and tarnishing a game studio’s reputation. Good to see Arrowhead fighting back.
If you live in a place where PSN is not supported I cannot stress this enough as Aztecross didn't mention it.
DO NOT CHANGE THE LOCATION OF YOUR ACCOUNT!
That is a clear violation of Sony's EULA which terminates your account. This also will lock down the steam account that you linked to Sony.
And it's not necessary.
They dont realize it but theyve been training a group of internet entities to all focus on a singular goal. Everyone forgot the billion bugs we killed in 24 hours, thats a million reviews in less time.
Sony just put out a tweet that they changed their mind on the account linking.
I hate that it's always the people who made a fantastic game who are going to get hurt the most, not the brickheads making the decisions (and taking the $$$)
Most I’ve been able to do is make my review negative as my refund request has been denied due to the whole more than 2 weeks and 2 hours policy. Feels bad man
keep sending them until you get it, every request is one more match on the fire. Valve will get further involved soon, bet on it.
It’s crazy that the whole Escape From Tarkov fiasco is happening and then this happens. What has happened to these upper management at BSG and Sony… both are burning bridges.
A quote from another video I watched "You don't mess with a player base that killed 2 billion bugs in 12 hours". And I feel it explains it all. I'm a Destiny 2 player much sure I've switched games to HD2 but now I'm unsure.
Other then Destiny 2 and Outriders I think I’m done investing my time and money on the online with servers type games. They might honestly, but after this fiasco, hopefully Sony learns their lesson.
Reviews might've tanked, but the game is still fantastically fun to play. This will all blow over soon enough.
Maybe it’s due to Microsoft wanting to try and get it onto Xbox and this will absolutely rule that out if you need a psn account. 🤷♂️

Sea of thieves isn't comparable at all in numbers to helldivers 2. It was also clearly communicated up front that you needed to do that. The problem is this. I bought the game and have been able to play since. NOW Im being told I wont be allowed to play the game I bought and have been playing fine since, unless I make a 3rd party account
Based on that will they be required to play PS+?
The issue isn't having to sign up. We do that a lot for other games up front. The issue is that it we paid for something, was told it was optional, and then a few months later get told we have to sign up or we lose access to the game. Worse for those in countries who don't have even have access to the game anymore. It feels like their money was stolen in a bait and switch.
People are tired of not owning the games they pay for and, more importantly, hate feeling like they've been deceived.
To be fair so many other companies require what Sony is asking. This is nothing new. It sucks though but again this not new. The lack of transparency is inexcusable 100% for not letting people know from the beginning.
Sony.. this could’ve been done so easily you could’ve have your cake and eat it too…
Keep the game optional for PSN, but add bonus cosmetics and exp booster if/when you add your PSN account by a certain date. You could get your earning numbers and also make the playerbase happy.

PSN has officially rolled back their requirement and helldiver's put out a major order to change your reviews to positive lol
On top of how many countries can't even make an account Sony is notorious for its data breaches way more than ms or ubisoft or ea.
I don't necessarily want arrowhead to go indie if it means losing funding so we end up with a democracy filled version of the ever verse from d2 to pay for things but it would be better than this I guess. Since it would still be optional

THEY REVERTED THE DESCISION , WE WON
This article clearly avoids the crux of this problem: that some people are unable to create their psn account due to regional restrictions from psn. Creating an account from some countries is straight up impossible without a vpn.
I feel this issue very hard as these kinds of restrictions from Sony disallowed me to purchase any more dlcs for Destiny 2 and to keep playing the game i loved.
It just sucks man
Money this is why this is happening. Its always about sweet precious lewt when it comes to big companies/corporations. Its unfortunate and i hope AH can recover from this drama.
I live in Jamaica but technically i created my psn account with a usa address and it works fine but i have to buy psn money with us dollar eventhough we don't use USD , it's annoying but it works
Terms of Service are absolutely disgusting agreements.
It’s not crazy that we can come together for one bigger goal, that’s what we did in the game for hours all the time.
And in some places that the where players are allowed to make psn accounts they can only do so with a purchase of a playstation system I think it was Sweden? I've even seen some chinese player already getting banned because they used a vpn to link their account. There is crossplay witih helldivers 2 but no cross progression, for the past 3 months the game has worked fine without the need to make and link a psn account and has been able to track steam accounts/psn players. Conservatively, I'd estimate at least 20-30k of player base just got fucked out of 40-60+ USD and were told to kick rocks which is why I think the review ratings tanked so swiftly in under a day.
I hear Hungaria is lovely this time of year...
They already denied access to the countries already 2 hours ago on steam
i suppose if steam has say 2mil hd2 players, half of them sign up, it be an easy migration of 1mil onto the ps pc launcher, hypothetically.
Two things: this all takes place before their psn+ model, which is subscription based. So buy the game and pay for monthly access. Second, having to provide a driver's license for Sony, who loses PII every year, is not acceptable period.
Players have said Sony is known to have information leaks, also a reason why people don't want to link their STEAM account.
What i have yet to see people ask is why was the game being sold to countries that can't make a PSN account?
Im here to say we won this battle onto the next!!! For Democrussy!!!!!!!!
Well this was always the case, linking the steam account to the psn. In addition, look at the real reasons why Sony is requiring this. They need to be able to protect players. Even arrowhead said it themselves.
This was a simple problem for me. I am a bit older now , and i have the child in me under control. Helldivers rocked, and i loved playing, but just like Destiny2. I am an adult, and if a company starts doing shady stuff...... I am out! All the issues Playstation has had with personal info, and security. I have zero desire to have anything to do with Playstation whatsoever. As an adult gaming is maybe 3rd or 4th on my list of hobbies, so walking away from a game is easy. So, I have played my last match of Helldivers. Nowhere else in adult life do we put up with this kind of crap from other companies. I have no idea why so many of us allow games to do it. I understand Arrowhead didnt do it, but this was filthy , and just like if i paid for an oil change , and my car got scratched up....... They gets no more business from me.
So basically AH just said “Hellbomb armed, clear the area”
