Hi, new to to channel… Great plants and very informative video, thank you. Can I ask where you live, to understand what “outside” means? Also, about decent germination: how many seeds did you put in each pot, on average? More updates will be more than welcome

Hi, sorry about the abysmally late reply.
I live in Norway in northern Europe. I thought I had mentioned the climate and temperature in the video.
The packets i bought had between 5-15 seeds in them and I put one packet in one pot.

Hi, great results, from where did you get the seeds?

How is your collection now? Are you still growing them? I'm also starting my mesembs collection from seeds. They are so cute ❤

Hi, thank you for asking! I hope you got started on growing them, they are wonderful plants!
I was really excited to share this process, because there's very little content about them(at least it was), but for the longest time this video didn't have any views and I gave up on filming.
The winter of 22 was awful, I had a lot of plants die, from it being too cold or warm, and wrong watering because of the wrong temperature. Most of my lithops survived, because they got the coldest spot in the house, the mesemb's weren't as lucky. I have some of them still, but many of them died. Maybe I should have talked about winter care and what not to do ;)
I still have seeds I never had space to grow, maybe I'll try again next spring.

I don't know why, but RUclips did not notify me of your response. I am so sorry for your collection going through hardship. For now I am having a lot of fun with my seedlings (lithops, monilaria, conophytum, dinteranthus and gibbaeum). Winter is getting closer here too, so for my adult plants I am planning to put them in my basement around November/December, completely dry and in the dark till spring (to activate dormancy). Hopefully I will not loose too many XD

When you say you’re keeping some outside; do you mean fully outdoors or do you mean in a greenhouse? Thanks for making such a detailed video; would love to see an update and any advice you can offer :)

They were outside, but under roof. We had between 14-25C during summer. Unfortunately I wasn't very good at watering them during winter so many of them died of neglect. Those who are still with us are back outside, the temp now is between 2-20C

Trying to find how to germinate dinteranthus vanzylii from seed? Wondering media mixture to make, and can I do it in a sealed sterilised baggie like I do with cacti or will they get damp?

All of these mesembs can be grown with the same mix and care, it's the temperature that varies. You can grow them like your cacti, but only for the first weeks. After germination it's advised to start introducing some air. Obviously it depends on your climate.
