I did this vocal warm up before starting my practice session yesterday and my voice sounded the best it's ever sounded. Thank you for sharing this and your other videos. Very happy!

Feray, l have been following your videos, l have watched a lot of them, this is one of the hallmarks that l have come across which is really preparing me to get it with my voice type. When l sing, l usually get out of range, my voice is usually heavy, sometimes too low. But l am really interested to improve it. I am here in Africa.

This warm up is really helpful and one of my favourites. It gently warms up my vocal chords and in particular getting to my higher range which is more difficult for me these days.

My sister asked me to sing at her wedding in May. I had not sung for almost two years (pandemic shut down our choir and ensemble), so I was in a panic, especially since her song choice was definitely not in my best range. I found this video, and also your video about smoothing out your head voice/chest voice transition, and they were both immensely helpful. Thank you so much for sharing your teaching with us! I plan to explore more of your videos to get my voice and breath control back into shape.

I'm never sure if my sore vocal cords is from bad technique or lack of a decent warm up.. probably both. I definitely dont recommend warm up exercises that risk blowing too much air so this was really good..esp the first half.!

    Hi Freya,
On the last exercise you demonstrated, I am able to slide up from vocal fry. chest, middle(mix), but when I get into head - there is skipping or even no sound. Do you have any suggestions ?
    Thank you!

My voice is similar to yours but I have a hard time with transitioning from chest to head voice.

Thanks for a helpful vid, Freya. I have an irrelevant question (and maybe a helpful suggestion). I've noticed that most teachers use this 5-note half-scale pattern in the basic ionian mode. But why limit it to this? Why not sing the minor (dorian or aeolian) mode? Why not do these exercises with the lydian, phrygian or locrian modes, or the whole tone scale, or pentatonics, or the diminished scale, or even the Japanese insen scale? That way you're training your ear while training your voice. I'm an instrumentalist, delving into vocals, but this might be helpful to all singers past the beginner level. Best regards.

@@creative1able I'm a big beleiver in using what practice time you have efficiently. So, why not work on improving your "ears" while improviing your voice at the same time? Or work on your rhythm, etc.? I like singing different scales solfege while I'm driving, for example.
