Best Space Saving Bed Conversion with Garage | Van Build

  • The van build project for this week is our bed. We used a pretty unique van bed idea that works great for people who aren't too tall. It slides into couch mode to let us sit on a bench below it to eat and work but we also still have the option to sit on it while it's in couch mode. The sliding mechanism also makes it so that we don't need to break down the bed each time we want to sit at the table. It also allows for plenty of garage space.

    a futon in a Van, great idea. the only possible other option would have been something like a Murphy bed on the wall but I think you picked the right option. The star gazing idea sounds amazing too, especially when you guys are going remote and there is no light pollution - that is going to next level!!! Now, you need to have some kind of drop down/out of the wall computer work station for like a laptop or something, so you can still edit and post online!

    We are building a van with a bed that is separated from the garage (head board from mattress base to ceiling) and a flip up foot section that will hide the bed and open up a bench area for day use. passenger side will have a
    stainless steel counter with butcher block accents(at sink cover and flips), 2 burner induction and flip up/downs at each end.we are putting in a fridge (behind drivers seat) and separate freezer under the bench seat.
    Your interior i noted has shiplap walls and a white tile metal? graphic backsplash which is how we have it.
    Lots of fun keep up the good work.

    you need a thermal barrier between the 80/20 and the van's metal hull otherwise the metal bed frame will get super cold and your bed will be supercold if the aluminum is getting it's warmth sapped by the Van's exterior metal hull. Good thing most of your wood paneling covers this.
    eg nylon spacers between the 80/20 and the van wall and also between the bolt head and the 80/20.

    Nice design. Are you not going to need two singles though so that it is easier to fold? Also probably want to dampen the backside so it does bang against the door all the way down the highway. I would also try and connect the two rail slides releases somehow unless you can reach them both simultaneously.

    • @TaklyntheWorld
      @TaklyntheWorld  3 года назад

      We cut the mattress so it can fold and we can reach both since the sliding part is only on part of the mattress we might still add something though since we need to be able to pull the mattress a little so that it folds as we push it on the slides.

    I don’t know exactly what sort of blade you are using to cut the extrusion but as a rule abrasive cutters should not be used on aluminum. They can pack up with aluminum causing the blade to be off balance which can lead to failure of the blade. If you have ever seen a blade explode it will leave an impression. You can cut aluminium with any blade that cuts wood.
