I've been playing racing games since the 90s on controller. Finally got my first wheel in 2020, the Thrustmaster T150. It was a good entry wheel. I was slower in terms of 1 lap pace but felt more consistent in races. Went from a C to B rated driver due to your lap guides on GT Sport and Womble's strategy guides. Even went to A rated a few times. Just bought the T300 RS GT, and although I struggled for a couple of weeks, I already feel a difference. But am I that much faster? Probably not. Consistency is key, and I think you can get better over time no matter what wheel you're on, but you gotta put the hours in. I'd love to splash out on a more expensive wheel, but I'm not there financially. Happy with what I have, and gonna make the most of it. Your vid just confirmed this for me, so thank you :)
Before I even thought about using a fanatec wheel, I knew I wanted to make sure I was capable of being faster and more consistent even with an entry level wheel and it was worth it. 🔥
For me the pedals were the game changer. Once I changed my pedals to the Fanatec V3 from an old Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo my times increased dramatically. I also stopped spinning out all the time.
What a nice video, honestly the quality of the overall video is something I haven't seen even on some super popular channels. Absolutely comparable to unbox therapy not going to lie.
We knew there'd be no huge difference without even watching. He's an A+ / S driver who can drive these tracks and cars with his eyes closed. What we really need is a D/C driver to do the exact same comparison. I am going to bet the deviation is much wider.
if a driver is an D dr, all he needs to do is set braking and turning points, and learn each track. only that would be enough to reach B or even A with even a controller. no wheel would transform any D dr driver, because the driver still hasn't learned the basics.
I agree. I have a g29 and felt stuck due to it's lack of feedback. I just put on some different right settings on f1 and got like at least half a second faster, and i was already fast plus i wasn't training as much as i did back when using the wrong settings. So yes, feeling what is happening with the car can help a lot, because then you can react and drive past the limit you had before, and not just spin not knowing why, not feeling anything before.

I tried to replicate your lap times, but wish to know more about your testing itself. Was it done in a public lobby or did you use the ingame time trial? I used the latter, tyre wear x1, fuel x0, realistic grip level, and my best out of ten laps was a mid 1:15. Can't remember my wheel settings, but I have set it to little feedback since I had just a subtle rattling when going over the curbs. The car choice, well ..., not easy for me, had to set the BB completely to the front, and I still had a bit of turn-in oversteer when I got the trail braking wrong. With the new physics my driving style changed a bit, I'm not using trail braking as extensive as before. I know I do it, but in the replays it's just barely visible. I would love to get better pedals (pedal-pressure over pedal-distance), but a new and more expensive wheel just for being a tenth quicker? No. Consistency is not a problem of the wheel, I guess. With 50 I'm maybe too much of an old fart for sim racing, my brain can't translate a rattle in the wheel into something that I could do better. What's the wheel supposed to do when my brakes are locked? What's a wheel supposed to do when I have massive understeer? What kind of feedback should it give to me? It's depends on your experience. Let's say that I've had small experience with go-carts and sport cars like Lancer Evo IX or Ferrari 458/488, few times went on a track day etc. So I've learned how feedback from real car looks like. I've just recently switched from Logitech G29 to G Pro. On G29 scoring Gold in weekly time trials in GT7 was achievable but quite hard. I was always around 2,5%-3,5% After 3-4 weeks on G Pro setup I'm getting gold is much much easier and now I'm scoring 1,8%-2,8% always. It's all about the level of feedback your setup can give you.
I went to fanatec dd+ and clubsport v3 after tgt2 and tlcm. I’m B rating. What can I say… the fanatec wheel base base is more detailed but not significantly , but the gap between pedals is great, I learned trailbraking. Lap time decreased . But dd+ is really ot needed. 8nm is enough. It is impossible to drive on 100% ffb and ingame max settings. I use 100% ffb and only 4-5 ingame setting
From my experience, not the wheel, but the pedals make the difference. Changing from G29 pedals to Thrustmaster "Load Cell" pedals made me nearly 2sec faster per lap in racing. This "little" change gives much more realistic feeling and controlling when braking. As I'm not willing to spend round about 2.000EUR just for the steering it was the right decision for me (my wheel is a Thrustmaster T150). With this setup I can play with the "big boys" in GT7.
The video is great and very informative, it does really cover all aspects a sim racer will look into. Maybe its important to focus also on how those wheels work in different games as Fanatec has really stepped down with some wheels after the new physics update. You did cover a bit my question on your live stream about my CSL Elite but i still do find it stupid that G29 gives way more feedback than a CSL Elite ps4 bundle but in AC and iRacing is completely different story and most importantly on PC. A CSL elite has extremely strong feedback when cornering and resisting to the road surface but it has 0 input also on BoP cars when the back end will lose it and its uncontrollable to saved where on G29 you can actually do it and consistently. And thats again after physics update, before that on license test was direct plug and play with a great feeling and catching the car. So where is problem GT7 or Fanatec because on other games or even enjoyable like ETS2 feedback is awsome and reaction time on PC.

He should do one with someone who doesent have so much experience but isn’t a noob at sim racing so like a mid sim racer he’s good but hes not that good but not far bad yk
Thanks for the video. As a long time sim racer it’s my humble opinion that Logitech sells nothing but absolute garbage. The word “toy grade” is too flattering. The lower end wheels are absurdly overpriced compared to the likes of Fanatec etc. I truly believe that the low end wheels only serve to magnify poor driving habits for anyone that’s serious about getting better lap times. Yes they might help in the short run when you switch from a stick controller but the bottom line is they are all a $300+ expense that will ultimately get thrown in the bin when you finally buy the better end wheel you KNEW you should have bought up front.

I would love to make the switch and try, but the jump in price is too much. There are people out there on controller who are super quick. So best to just enjoy what you have and make the best of it. If I come into some money one day, I'll definitely invest in a Fanatec. But I'm guessing for most average Gran Turismo players, it's out of the budget.
For me it's not the wheel that makes a difference I can handle latency and delayed feedback in a wheel, but I cannot handle cheap spongy pedals that feel nothing like a car
No if you play GT7, as the game doesnt provide info for the display. So you are going to pay a lot for several features that you wont be able to use. If you want a formula-style wheel, go with the simpler options like the F1 Addon.
the open wheel its good choice... its cheap and comfortable... if u want a some better wheel but more expensive the 488 ferrari its beautifull... but expensive
I wished if you would do it with a gt3 car like the porsche 911 + the new phyisic it's harder to drive now, then we'll see realistic comparison between the 2 wheels
Other people have said it, but the majority of players aren’t A+ or even close. A top tier player is going to get similar times, but an average player will probably have significantly better and more consistent lap times.
My bet is in the opposite: a average player would ignore the extra FFB the high end wheels give, like how they shake when you are over the limit of the car grip, which is a feature that low end wheels dont have, thinking its just a stronger FFB. And by doing that, he wouldnt take any advantage of the better wheel, and will have the same times. Digit isnt more consistent just because he has a more expensive wheel, but because it gives him the necessary info to be more consistent, and, specially, because Digit knows how to use that info.
It's also the knowledge that someone has. DD will provide better information and make drivers react faster to their mistakes, and that's why it's better for beginners. In my opinion anything more than 0.5s difference per lap is drivers fault.
@@DigitRacingDG appreciate the response! Yeah Ive used a G29 for the last year, I’m in high B, low A tier in GT7 and I think I’ve about reached my ceiling, so for me an upgrade is worth it. I wonder if you'd get the same results on a track you've not driven before. i.e. you don't drive from memory but - more - from feel.
I currently have a T-GT II and wondering if I should buy a SF1000 wheel or completely replace my setup, which of course will need a far more € :-)
No if you play GT7, as the game doesnt provide info for the display.
I did Gr.3 and Gr.2 - it's maybe 0.1 or 0.2s per lap different. Of course, this depends on the car.
I hope the insolvency issue is solved soon with fanatec, don’t want to spend money on it with all the uncertainty.
Love your vids tho, subbed
Too bad the Fanatec Clubsport DD+ continues to have disconnect issues - I know - I have one also and right now I can't be effective in on-line races due to the DCs.
Good old fanajunk! Why I sold my clubsport dd 12nm and bought a alpha 15nm and a moza r12
you should test GR3 cars.
Better hardware made me a better lover.
I enjoy your voice
It IS pretty chill! Great young man :-)
Its all in ur mind, the g29 best the fanatec😂
Subtítulo en Español!!
will it make you faster? Yes...will you make it win every race ? No
Probably your best video to date 🥇
Do the same with a t300 mate. And a t300 vs g29. I promise you will get tons of views... Mpst selling wheel of all time is t300 by far
You cant buy speed and talent.
