I really wish Norma never ignored the fact the Norman was sick. Everyone around her kept trying to tell her but she wouldn’t listen to the point where it ended her life. Sure she got him into PineView for like 2 weeks then she let him come home. Smh

in the original movie which bates motel is based on, norman is mentally ill because of norma, she always said no girl was ever good enough for him other than herself, and some might say she loved him in the other way (romantically), which caused him to be too attached to her and fall for her which resulted in him killing everyone who gets to norma, and no one can have her so he kills her. the reason i think bates didn’t show how sick norma is and all is because everyone likes the actress too much and didn’t want to ruin her character

How perfectly this show is written that everything that happened makes total sense. Norma did everything she could to always protect and defend Norman. She crossed moral lines, she neglected Dylan, she lashed out, and even emotionally abused her family. She came from a home with such abuse and emotional baggage, was raped and violated so many times, abuse and instability was everything she knew. When she finally has something good and special with someone, she wouldn't ever, ever have seen clearly enough to fix things, even when those around her were warning her and begging her to open her eyes. Romero himself at times refused to leave her alone with Norman and I'm sure he beat himself up over it in prison after this. Her unhealthy attachment and judgment clouded by abuse, trauma and fear, ultimately led to her death and it makes perfect sense that this is how it would end up being her fate. She shunned Romero when he pushed her right before this to send him back to an institution, pushed him right out of her life over her unhealthy relationship with her son. And the worst part is, through all the abuse, irrational decisions and screaming at people, she only ever did it out of motherly love and her own experience being mistreated and abused. Vera did so, so well. I felt like I lost a dear, sweet friend when Norma died. She did everything she did out of love...Norman was sick. And she couldn’t accept that.
Me too. She was troubled but she wasn't coming from a place of harm. Both of them were :,( But my heart breaks more for Norma, because she was really trying her best, however she was heavily misguided.
Everyone hates Norman but for some reason he was my favorite character. In a way you can’t blame him since he isn’t really with reality. He wanted to kill Norma and himself as a way of getting a “fresh start” which he was previously talking about with Norma, so they could be happy and together forever since the world had done them such wrong. As I see it, his heart was in the right place in some messed up way since he was insane. That or he had blacked out when he did this and it wasn’t really him. That’s what makes it so hard to judge. When he does terrible things you can hardly blame him because he can’t even remember it. If he had been treated at a younger age that could make it possible for him to lead a normal life but Norma wouldn’t let that happen and neglected him as a child which made me dislike her and definitely choose Norman over her. Everyone seems to see it the other way around so I wanted to state my opinion.
i love both of them lol they're messed up bc they're both products of their terrible environment (norman's overprotection and extreme dependency of his mother, abusive father, and norma's dysfunctional family, abusive husband etc)
Exactly. Its not like he understands why he’s doing what he’s doing he needed serious help which he never got but in the end it cost so many people their lives. Other people in the show killed others and knew what they were doing. Norman didn’t he couldn’t even remember. Im not excusing it though he did kill people and when he was on trial he wasn’t going to jail he was going to a mental institution which he really needed to but people don’t understand that Norman wasn’t all there. On the other hand, Norma wasn’t all bad but she was messed up, she covered up her son’s murders, never got him help, was way too possessive and over protective not to mention when Norman tried to break away she’d manipulate him into doing what she wanted, Norman obviously wasn’t born with DID it happened because of his past and trauma mostly from Norma he never hallucinated anyone else, thats the problem.
becks I see how you and Norman is my favorite character. people are judging as if he was the only one wrong and Norma was not to blame. Perfect series, sick and bright Norman.
This was my favourite part of the show thus far. From Norman and Norma talking about Hawaii, up til Norman saying, "Mother"? The tragedy was perfectly set up. The fact that his intention wasn't to murder Norma, but for them both to softly die and stay together forever, hence the name of the episode. Mr. Sandman playing while showing different still shots of the house is just haunting. The air vents shutting, sealing their fate. Then Romero breaking down over her body is utterly devastating. This is pure gold.
Although that scene was incredibly sad heart-wrenching and tragic,it may be arguably one of the best scenes in the entire series. The way they choreographed it or whatever you would call it in this particular and parotid with that version of mr. Sandman was amazing to watch. plus anyone who knows the storyline of the original film should have all seen is coming yet they show has done such a good job for train Norma's character that we are still shocked and heartbroken over something we already knew was bound to happen.
Best scene in the series from the best episode in the series too. Incredible that the full sequence from Norma coming home distraught right to the end takes up HALF the episode and just features Norma and Norman and for the last segment, Romero. Everything about it, from the music and acting to the visuals and editing is just absolutely phenomenal. The boiler flames morphing into the Bates Motel sign, Romero inconsolable grief, the last, haunting images of Norman and Norma splayed out lifeless on the floor in the cold, blue light, Romero's desperate CPR on Norma seemingly reviving Norman and not her and Norman's slow head turn followed by that last, broken "Mother" are just all brilliantly executed and unforgettable moments. Creepy, gut-wrenching, heartbreaking and beautiful, in short some of the best 20 odd minutes of television drama I've EVER seen.
If only she listened to Dylan and Romero...smh seeing Romero breakdown like that killed me seeing a character that strong just break and he really loved her..powerful stuff
Me too, but they didn't necessarily choose to kill her off. This show, after all, is a prequel for the movie "Psycho," and in the movie Norma is dead. I really wish they didn't brand this show as a prequel, though, and kept Norma alive. I feel like it would have made more sense for them to be a team because Norma, in my opinion, already showed signs of being mentally unstable. But, that's just my opinion.
alphabetical order this show is in.. let's say an alternative dimension, than the original movie, there's cells phone's, future technologies, I don't think the show is cannon with the movie like that.. it's just based off the movie, but I hate they killed her this way, so unexpected
Chris Beach I understand, but it is branded as a prequel. Which doesn't really make sense because of, well, everything you've explained. I see where you're coming from though.
Totally agree. I was in my car and my friend played this on the radio. It made me think of Bates Motel which is literally why I'm here watching this clip..
I wish I could have the section of my brain that is storing the memory of having watched this show erased, so I could enjoy this again like it was brand new.
It was always confusing for me: how they all just believed that Norma has committed a suicide?? I mean, shouldn’t the cops have checked the fingerprints on that heater (or what was that thing) and have a more detail view on the crime scene? Besides, Romero still was a sheriff back then so if he suspected that Norman had killed Norma he could make a more thorough investigation. I just don‘t get it.
Idk if I'm getting soft or what but when Alex started crying over Norma I almost balled my eyes out. Such good acting!! I really reared up cause the whole show he was so unhappy never smiled but when he was with Norma he was happy and really loved her and would only smile around her. He knew she was in danger and was helpless. Like watching some get hit by a car you know it's comin but your just seconds to late. You could really feel the heartbreak in his face. Amazing job!
I still can't get over Norma's death. I cried like a baby when she died. She was so sweet.😢 And that scene where Romero goes to visit her to the morgue had me in tears even more omg💔
Norman wasn't evil. He was mentally unwell. It's just so sad. If only she'd gotten him help before ever moving to White Pine Bay, things might've been different.
The first time I watched this scene I bawled and when Norman died, I bawled. Just the idea of him calmly setting up his own suicide along with his mother was chilling...☠️
I don’t think Norma was a bad mother she had a very rough past and Norman was the only person she could trust and the number one person she loved and she couldn’t let them take him away from her
The tension that builds with each vent closing mixed with this version of sandman, mixed with how casual he was about what he was doing makes this scene an instant classic.
The most heartbreaking scene of the entire show... I will never get over Romero's death... Poor man entered such a sick and damaged family.. he signed his death sentence from the moment he fell in love with her...
Heart wrenching scene...I fully expected Norma to revive and when she died I was totally shocked! I was mourning her for days afterward...best show ever😢
Just watched this episode yesterday for the first time and I couldn't sleep last night lmao My empathetic ass gets so attached to fictional characters it sucks. I'm late to the party and feel like I have no one to discuss it with so I'm just pouring my feelings on old RUclips comments. Ugh I don't think I'll be able to watch season 5, it's too sad.
@@internetdaisy You gotta watch Season 5, it is amazing .... EVEN BETTER than the show up till this point -honestly, it just keeps getting better and better until the very end
This entire series spoke to me and resonated with me in a way that is unspeakable. The music they play in this series really portrays the show properly. When Norman killed his mother, it made me cry because my mother is still alive and she is my hero. Seeing Norman kill his own mother was a blow that I couldn't handle. Norma never really let him grow up, and that was partially why he ended up becoming a serial killer / psychotic individual. He kept the mentality of an 11 year old. Plus not to mention, he had D.I.D.(Dissociative Identity Disorder). That really took things to a whole other level. When he was a little boy, he had to kill his father to protect his mother. That was when everything clicked the wrong way. It's kind of like the show Dexter, where he saw his mother get butchered in front of him and had to sit in a pool of her blood for 2 or 3 days in a shipping cargo container. Dexter then became a serial. It became a normality for him, just like Norman Bates. This is a very sad series
otaku with a life he wanted them both to die.both him and his mother.but his plan failed and it didn’t seem right for him to kill himself after Norma died.
Norma's protection over norman became obsessive, unfortunately it also made her blind to the fact that norman was not only dangerous to others but to her also.

She kept turning a blind eye and getting pissed with everyone for saying he needed help. Well who was the fool. Her son and husband tried to warn you over and over again. But you thought they didn't love you or was jealous of Norman. Really!? "How that work out for you?" Binge watching again.
Girl Dog yea she dies a completely different way in the original film, I definitely wasn't expecting this. I figured they would remix the movie somehow, I feel her death could have been handled alot better. Fucking wowwwww
it was that moment I started truly hate Norman while seeing his pleasure when seeing Alex's pain... he wasn't just sickminded, he was totally evil and selfish bastard, Norma made huge mistake spoiling him so much, but after all they've been through no wonder she was always by his side. what disappointed me in this scene was how he killed her.... in movie it was much more cruel and awful I felt like here it was not enough.... only character I felt sorry about was Alex..... I cried like a baby for him
I am crying so hard at this! I am watching the show in 2022 and ohmygod what a masterpiece! Also Mr. Sandman isn't a sad song but after this whenever I heard it, all I could think of was Norma Bates, now the song alone makes me cry. Oh Norma, why? WHY?
Me too . I just started watching it . I loved for so much I bough all seasons on iTunes . What a gray show . The most tragic scenes was her death , Alex and Norman !
This is an amazing series. I had to watch it because I am a huge fan of the movie Psycho. I am so glad I did. The actors and set are perfect. Truly a great back story of the movie. ❤
I feel bad for all of them, Norman was severely mentally ill, Norma was incredibly troubled and was so caught up on the fear of losing him that she ignored all of the warning signs, Dylan was just constantly neglected and deserved much better, and Romero was in love and trying to do good for the family. Very tragic.
Probably the best scene I the whole show, the transitions in this scene of just showing the house while Norman prepares the staged suicide is great slog with the perfect song
Poor Romero😭I feel sooo bad for him. He deserved so much better. (yes I’m a huge shipper lmao) anyway, the way they did this was amazing, playing mr sandman and everything. It was a horrible scene but it was also amazing (except when I was crying my eyes out😂)
When I saw this scene... I could not believe and accept it. Norma was my favorite character at that point. When Romero went inside of the house, I wanted him leave that piece of crap psychopath of Norman being left inside. Norma deserved a happy ending 😭😭
He didnt kill her, he wanted to die with her 😂😂, but then alex ruined everything and he blamed norman for her death , and wanted to kill him, without realising that he's the reason why Norman is alive.
MD LP13 because it was Norman’s fault. Romero only saved Norman because he didn’t think he’d lose Norma and if he let Norman die than he knew it’d devastate Norma. Romero fought and had hope he’d save Norma. I’m sure if he knew there was no chance and she was dead he’d probably would’ve left Norman in the other room to die.
he fukkin killed her and wanted to kill himself at the same time ,he's messed up in the head ... but he didnt die he lived ....and so hes a living psychopathic murderer

@@KayEmCee92 You're forgetting the fact that she knew Norman killed a fuck ton of people and decided to divorce Romero anyway just because he wanted Norman back in the mental institution.
Kelly Marie bro wtf she made him the sick fuck he is!!! she was always up in his business locking him up n making him feel like all girls r whores n using him n that his mom is a saint n the only one he could ever love, she made him attracted to her she made his whole life revolve around her and she never cared about him killing shit ton of ppl, she deserves it
It was so upsetting when Norma dies
Especially Romero I fucking cried
ToxicWaste 180 ikr
Watching this scene ruined my mental state for days no joke😭
Kaitlin Davies took me more than a couple days to stop being depressed🤣🤣😭
@@samanthaneale3324 sameeee😭😂
I didn’t sleep well for so long after the scene where Dylan finds Norma dead, those eyes legit haunt me omg
i never expect that, so i´m in shock that´s really sad
Currently just watched it now I'm depressed 😂 definitely killed my mood
this scene was always so chilling to me. mr sandman eerily playing while he closes the vents, his walking, everything
Vera did so, so well. I felt like I lost a dear, sweet friend when Norma died. She did everything she did out of love...Norman was sick. And she couldn’t accept that.
I love Norma's character so much, I cried so badly watching this...
Me too. She was troubled but she wasn't coming from a place of harm. Both of them were :,( But my heart breaks more for Norma, because she was really trying her best, however she was heavily misguided.
I cried so bad, Vera is the only reason i watched this show, I know it isn’t real but just real sad
I started watching because I loved Freddie highmore but then I was watching and realized that Vera farmiga is everything
jazzyluvswaka that whole cast was amazing. I was skeptical of him having a brother at first, but that actor absolutely killed it
jazzyluvswaka I started because i love Hitchcock. I have seen Psycho a million times
me too
I hated her in this. She started off cool but then got worse throughout the show.
Everyone seems to see it the other way around so I wanted to state my opinion.
becks unicorn I agree. Norman isn’t evil he just isn’t in his right mind
i love both of them lol they're messed up bc they're both products of their terrible environment (norman's overprotection and extreme dependency of his mother, abusive father, and norma's dysfunctional family, abusive husband etc)
i agree sm. no one understands norman and it makes me sad
The filming for this scene was so good!! Eerily brilliant.
If only she listened to Dylan and Romero...smh seeing Romero breakdown like that killed me seeing a character that strong just break and he really loved her..powerful stuff
Alex 😭 he was my favorite character out of all, Dylan coming in close as second, I just wish Alex could have lived with Norma for the rest of life :(
Same
Also, he doesn't even spend eternity with her... Norman does...
Was never gonna happen.
Oohh Babbyy😭😭😫😢😥
still pisses me off.
I see where you're coming from though.
alphabetical order it’s a prequel and a remake
please piss ON me
This scene is directorial perfection!! Very disturbing and poetic at the same time. My favorite of the entire series.
Somehow this is beautiful song but yet is very twisted watching Norman killing his mom.... that song forever bring the haunting of his mom..
Totally agree. I was in my car and my friend played this on the radio. It made me think of Bates Motel which is literally why I'm here watching this clip..
I wish I could have the section of my brain that is storing the memory of having watched this show erased, so I could enjoy this again like it was brand new.
Same omg
Poor romero
romero losing norma breaks my heart... at least she was asleep, but i wish she knew how crazy norman was ://
she did and even tough she knew that she refused to give Norman the help he needed
I'm just glad she didn't die wake by Norman. They should of died together, now Norman is the True Norman Bates now.
I just don‘t get it.
well, to put it simpaly do you remember that Norma wrote a letter breaking up with Rommero? i think te police took it as the suicide letter
I have never felt so damn helpless.... watching this happen and knowing you can’t stop it. One of the best scenes in TV history 😭😭😭
Most underrated show EVER
Idk if I'm getting soft or what but when Alex started crying over Norma I almost balled my eyes out. Such good acting!! I really reared up cause the whole show he was so unhappy never smiled but when he was with Norma he was happy and really loved her and would only smile around her. He knew she was in danger and was helpless. Like watching some get hit by a car you know it's comin but your just seconds to late. You could really feel the heartbreak in his face. Amazing job!
Bates Motel was my favorite show. I loved it so much.
I still can't get over Norma's death. I cried like a baby when she died. She was so sweet.😢 And that scene where Romero goes to visit her to the morgue had me in tears even more omg💔
she was so sweet the she didnt give help to her OWN SON and refused to believe he was a psycho
She's crazy
It was already a sad scene to begin with, but when he said "Come on, baby!" I started bawling...I'm sad to see Norma die.
Norman wasn't evil. He was mentally unwell. It's just so sad. If only she'd gotten him help before ever moving to White Pine Bay, things might've been different.
This is the saddest version of this song ever.....Norma dying made me cry...she was far from a perfect Mother, but she loved Norman....
amen
:( true, but love is always worth it...I believe it works out in the end. Maybe, on the other side, Norma, Norman, and Romero are a happy family.
This show is a Masterpiece 10/10 for me.
This was and IS the best series ever made. This scene was hard to watch but it was SO necessary!
i think everyone’s confusing norman’s persona as ”norma” as actually being her, but actually it’s just a persona based on norman’s idea of norma
no one is confusing the two 😂 wym
He should of been admitted years ago lol
Not exactly the turnout you wanted, was it, Norman?
Shay Dizzle well if you believe hard enough then you can make it that way ! - Norman
lol in fair verona
otaku with a life he wanted them both to die.both him and his mother.but his plan failed and it didn’t seem right for him to kill himself after Norma died.
@@arohaforastro9714you idiot,Norman want to kill both not just himself
Love how Alex picked Norma up like the QUEEN she is, but drags Norman as though he just killed him🤣🤣🤣🤣
I knew it was coming.
But it didn’t make it hurt any less.
Norma's protection over norman became obsessive, unfortunately it also made her blind to the fact that norman was not only dangerous to others but to her also.
It's not like she died by his hands. They should of died together in peace.
@@tracebrooks7846 Refresh my memory, how did norma die?
@@boxkilla7314 Carbon monoxide poisoning by the furnace in the basement which Norman started up closing ever vent except the one in Norma's room. Norman planned for them to die together, which here I thought she was gonna die by his hands in a brutal way but that didn't happen she died peacefully in the arms of the person she loved most.
@@tracebrooks7846 Exactly! Caused by norman.
This was Romero´s scene. He was soooo in love...HURTS.
Romero saying common baby😢😣
It doesnt show it here, but before that, the way Norman was looking at his mother while in bed was creepy af
Their whole relationship was creepy AF
I'm upset she died but she did kind of bring it on herself. She knew that boy was crazy.😧
Romero's crying is devastating
The first thing that pops up when you search “bates motel” and spoils everything
I mean if you watched psycho it already spoils the show. I feel like this show was made for people who have already seen the movie.
She kept turning a blind eye and getting pissed with everyone for saying he needed help. Well who was the fool. Her son and husband tried to warn you over and over again. But you thought they didn't love you or was jealous of Norman. Really!? "How that work out for you?" Binge watching again.
So sad, but hauntingly beautiful!!!
Shit man i couldn't believe it
Britt Duran Couldn't believe he killed norma, that inevetible it is what happens to her in the film. What couldn't you believe.
Girl Dog yea she dies a completely different way in the original film, I definitely wasn't expecting this. I figured they would remix the movie somehow, I feel her death could have been handled alot better. Fucking wowwwww
dont swear im only 12 and my cat just meowed
inconito001 I’m dead.
inconito001 oh... my... I don’t think I ever seen a comment like that 😂😂
I always felt that sherif eyeliner losing Norma and trying to revive her is one of the saddest deaths
I felt sooooo bad for Romero in this scene! He did a great job! I was so pissed at Norman!
it was that moment I started truly hate Norman while seeing his pleasure when seeing Alex's pain... he wasn't just sickminded, he was totally evil and selfish bastard, Norma made huge mistake spoiling him so much, but after all they've been through no wonder she was always by his side. what disappointed me in this scene was how he killed her.... in movie it was much more cruel and awful I felt like here it was not enough.... only character I felt sorry about was Alex..... I cried like a baby for him
Norman isnt evil he just isnt completly whit reality
I am crying so hard at this! I am watching the show in 2022 and ohmygod what a masterpiece!
Also Mr. Sandman isn't a sad song but after this whenever I heard it, all I could think of was Norma Bates, now the song alone makes me cry. Oh Norma, why? WHY?
Me too . I just started watching it . I loved for so much I bough all seasons on iTunes . What a gray show . The most tragic scenes was her death , Alex and Norman !
The music mr.sandman in the back round and watching this is freaking creepy
JT Studios1082 lol!!!😂😂 right
Indeed
This is an amazing series. I had to watch it because I am a huge fan of the movie Psycho. I am so glad I did. The actors and set are perfect. Truly a great back story of the movie. ❤
I have never been so pissed off at every character in a whole show at once before this scene
A really great, well shot and put together scene. Loved it
the only person i feel bad for is alex.... everyone else can choke
louise lo lmfao!! aw 🤣🤣 what about dylan?!
Amen, no one in this family could take a hint.
I thought bates motel was brilliantly done .. loved it all the way through x
Who’s watching this in 2019 and still crying? 😢
yes :(((
stfu pls
Probably the best scene I the whole show, the transitions in this scene of just showing the house while Norman prepares the staged suicide is great slog with the perfect song
This was heartbreaking
Poor Romero :( I’m use to seeing him put together with a strong composer. Seeing him crumble apart hurts
I know, the editors had no choice but to do this but, it pissed me off on how Norma died .
This episode pulls at the heart strings every time I watch it, such good acting on everyone's part...
I didn't exactly understand how she had died ; Carbon monoxide poisoning for those like me.
Ballin On these hoe ass niggas at the beginning of that season. The repairman workimg on the furnace said it was so old and not to ever use it again.
*_+Alexander Ellis_* lol
Alexander Ellis it was episode 9
the filming of this scene was amazing the song in the background going through the vents was truly creepy and sad at the same time
Poor Romero😭I feel sooo bad for him. He deserved so much better. (yes I’m a huge shipper lmao) anyway, the way they did this was amazing, playing mr sandman and everything. It was a horrible scene but it was also amazing (except when I was crying my eyes out😂)
i love love LOVE the way they transition into the bates motel sign
When I saw this scene... I could not believe and accept it. Norma was my favorite character at that point. When Romero went inside of the house, I wanted him leave that piece of crap psychopath of Norman being left inside. Norma deserved a happy ending 😭😭
I just started watching bates motel and this just had to show up in my recommendations
MD LP13 👏 perfect observation
MD LP13 Freddie Highmore literally admits that Norman is a psychopathic killer and his own mother’s murderer in many interviews.
he fukkin killed her and wanted to kill himself at the same time ,he's messed up in the head ... but he didnt die he lived ....and so hes a living psychopathic murderer
He did kill her. Lol just cause he survived didnt mean he didnt kill her..
Omg !! Alex so sad part.
He loved her from the first day he saw her.😭😭😭😭😭
one of my favorite series EVER
I dont know whose life is more sad. Norman or norma, either way it's tragedy.
I don’t think he was in a blackout, I think he knew what he was doing.
