Great idea. I got excited when I thought you said 500w Pure Sine but the link takes you to a modified Sine. Thanks for the idea. I bought the battery after your original review
No problem! Of course you could choose whichever inverter you wanted and do the same thing, so no pressure there. I'm using mine primarily to charge small electronics like drone batteries, my phone, and watch, etc.
I imagine you could install a 20A DC-DC charger from the main battery and connect it to the aux battery through 1 of the Anderson connectors. If you put a switch on charger then you could simply plug it in, and turn it on to charge while driving. 🤔
I basically bought this: amzn.to/3w86Jkm. I figure I can just plug it into my 12v socket in the truck while driving and attach the alligator clips to the external battery posts. The battery has built in protection to keep it from overcharging, but the truck should just throw 12v power at it until it stops pulling it, I think.
I decided to order one of the Goldenmate 12v 100Ah batteries, smart battery box, and a 12v cigarette plug charger. Since I'm still learning about these new LifePO4 batteries do I need to worry about anything like overcharging using the 12v socket when I'm driving?
I'm no expert so take this info with a grain of salt, but I don't think there would be any problem charging through the 12 volt even though it's probably not as efficient as a DC to DC charger, because the BMS in the battery should prevent overcharging.
I've been waiting for this video to drop and I'm probably going to try this same set up. What do you think of getting something like a NOCO Genius 1 and plugging that into the built-in inverter on the pro 4-x to charge the Goldenmate while driving?
That could probably work. I basically bought this: amzn.to/3w86Jkm. I figure I can just plug it into my 12v socket in the truck while driving and attach the alligator clips to the external battery posts. That's my plan anyways, :D.

How can one connect a victron MPPT charge controller to it? By adding a "red" 50A Aderson plug, drill the two holes, and connecting it directly to the battery as well? Or can one connect the victron the the outside two terminals?
I would just hook it to the external posts I think. But I suppose either way would work and the Anderson would make attaching and detaching it pretty nice.
can you attach the box to be charged using solar? Im a super beginner when it comes to wiring and electrical and im trying to find a good easy solution to power my fridge for about a week at a time
I'm trying to think of how you would do that. If you could wire the solar into an Anderson plug (the gray plugs on top of the box) then you could pretty easily get the power in that way. The only thing is you would want some sort of controller between it and the battery unless you battery has built in battery management. So, it's a little tricky, but definitely seems doable.
@@AllThingsOverlanding Thanks for the info! could i put the controller between the solar panel and the anderson plug? or would the controller have to go after the anderson plug?
@@deandavidson2823 So, my experience with solar has been that the controller is basically a box that the solar power enters and then it controls the output, so I would envision the solar going into the controller and then the output from the controller going into the Anderson plug and into the power bank.
So, I think you could maybe use that, but my concern would be that there's no controller between the solar and the battery, so I think that's the shortcoming of that for this application. If you had solar going into a solar controller and then some output coming from the controller into this box via the external poles, I think that would work.
@@AllThingsOverlanding Ah, I hadn't thought of that. I'm fairly new to using solar with my vehicle and am trying to wrap my head around anything and everything involved and the best setup for my needs. I really like the battery box you showcased in this episode and it got me thinking of how to make it work for my needs. Thank you so much for your insight and another great episode! Best regards.
No input on those, they are not directly connected to the battery terminals, just add another red 50A anderson, run cable directly to battery, or connect to outside terminals
Good question. Possibly, if your solar panel had the right sort of outputs and a built-in controller, but in most cases, the majority of solar panels wouldn’t work with it. I have built-in solar on the roof of my rooftop tent that runs into my secondary battery on the truck. My plan is to let that solar. Keep my truck topped off and then when this needs charged hook it up either via the cigarette lighter port in my truck while I’m driving or Using power coming out of the secondary battery into this one.
@@AllThingsOverlandinghey man, would you wanna send me a message with tips and just general setup with the Nissan and how to set things up? I live in Wisconsin, and plan on overlanding a lot in the near future. I see you come to Wisconsin here and there, would love to see your truck!

Great video! And man that was a fun trip
It was great. Missing the snow already!

Hey, you found a great option. I was mainly using the one I made for just my diesel heater but great job 😊😊
Thanks!
love this one too! nice video.
Thanks so much!
This is great, is there a way or what would you suggest to keep a trickle on it from the vehicles alternator while driving?

For sure. I used basically this same battery as a built in house battery for a few years and it would run the fridge for days with no problem.
