What a fittingly fine presentation for such a very nice, nice device. I have several older Akais, most with the mechanical, inter-locking plates, an X-2000SD and a 'special' X-330 that is relay controlled. I've burnished and re-brunished the relays and the relay sockets 'til they, the relays and the relay sockets are pretty-much worn out. I'd like to buld a new Control PCB utilizing solid-state relays. Since my wife is ill with dementia and I have little time right now to absorb myself in this and my other projects, I just study what can be done. Perhaps I can produce a video of that as few newer techs have experience with the care and feeding of mechanical relay devices.

Thanks for the comment on my comment! Still, thank you for showing how to clean and fix the buttons otherwise it would have been a longer procedure to find out how to open the r. to r. Thank you greetings

I had an AKAI 2000 SD in 1974 and all functions were mechanically interconnected and operated. Sure was different.

I do not recommend to do the same thing like on the video. It looks as it would be okay to use that grease calikotte 44. But the problem is that it closes the tiny little gaps on the copper counterpart of the switch and then it doesnt work any more. I had this problem, thought the ic for the buttons is gone. Cleaned all the buttons and counterparts with aceton (watch out not to spill on the plastic buttons it reacts with aceton) carefully and did not use any grease. Luckily then it worked like new.

      Hello
Thanks for the comment, I started by cleaning the buttons, all buttons except Play got better. Therefore, I decided to test this method. It has worked very well so far. What I was concerned about was that some comments for similar products said that the paint could dry and peel off. But I haven't seen any such tendencies so far after 4 months.
As always when repairing things you have to use your own judgement, I can absolutely see the problem described in the comment could occur.

I own one of these machines and am having the exact same problem. I'll have to order a tube of that conductive paint to restore the correct soft touch control of my tape recorder.

Nice work but €45 for 1g pot of conducting paint, you were robbed. Dude that's more expensive than gold and class A dr*gs.
