A few months ago a man wouldnt stop following me as I got home from work ~aprox 1am, and I had to literally speed walk to the fire department that was a few blocks opposite my home so he wouldnt keep following after me. In the early 2000's a friend and I had a similar expirience in Germany. A guy was following our car and only stopped when we pulled up at the next police station. Once a guy in a car followed the bus I was in and waited until I got out at my stop, only to yell out his open window and harrass me through catcalling. A similar thing happened to me as I was coming home from work. I was walking to my car from the train station. This random man saw me and began running towards me, fumbling with his pants. I remained calm but moved quickly. I got to my car first and he immediately stopped in his tracks and began to close his pants, just staring at me. I can't really agree with you. When I was little, I went with my father to the mountains to find our lost goats. At some point I got distracted by a lizard and started chasing it, until I got lost. I ended up in a region of the mountain, I have never been before and stayed there and cried, until I heard the bells from animals. I went to their direction thinking it was our lost goats. I ended up infront of a herd of sheeps with a male farmer and guess what, he was a complete stranger I had never seen before. What happened next... Instead of rapping me ( as most of you claim here) he calmed me down and then helped me to find my father whom I have left so far behind that I couldn't hear him desperately calling my name. I'm forever grateful to this person and for that reason I refuse to believe that all men are monsters and all women are saints. Both genders have the possibility to be good or bad. So, if they ever ask this ridiculous question about the man and the bear, I will definitely answer the man. Because if my child is found by a man, the possibility of him being a good man who will help it, like the farmer who found me, is very high. At same time, if it's found by a bear, it's even more likely, it ends up in its belly.

The fact that so many comments on other stuff about this debate are men being butthurt that women are “being irrational” and “anti-men” says A LOT about who they are as people, and they are the reason why we choose bears any days. As someone who was SA as a KID by a man that I was close to (literally a family member), I am always gonna choose a bear. A bear I can defend myself from, it’s super easy. A man wouldn’t care if I was stabbing them and fighting back. Humans are the true monsters, not bears.

Not really. My husband's greatest fear is losing his family by so threat ( be it human both male and female, animal, disease, natural catastrophic or time itself).
And those research studies are? Maybe if we weren't all shown about only bad men, leading us to demonify men before we can think about their good. There's bad women out there too and they're just as scary. What if the question was between a bear and a woman? Who would you choose and why?
From my perspective, it's a knee-jerk emotional response that a lot of women have when prompted with that question. They don't actually think it through with logic. The reality is that most men would not harm a woman, just a VERY small subset of them. If you modify the scenario to: "would you rather be trapped in a ROOM with a bear or a random man", I guarantee the answer shifts overwhelmingly to the man. If you were to modify the question further and ask would you want to instantly turn all men in the world into bears, the answer would be a resounding no. A world where every man turns into a bear would be very unsafe for all women, they would just be bear food. Also, if you correct for per capita and how infrequent human and bear interactions occur versus how frequent man and woman interactions are you'll soon realize that correcting for population size is the wrong way to look at it and statisticaly speaking the bear becomes FAR more dangerous. I think women are just conditioned to be afraid of men while not realizing how truly dangerous a wild animal that can't be reasoned with can be.

I was lost in the forest once. There was no bears but there were boars. They can unalive you bloody as well. I heard them so they were there for sure. I ran away and continued to look for the road. I was scared but i felt like if i stay calm and keep going i can get on top of the situation. Then I arrive to a wooded hilltop. There was a shack in the middle of nowhere with clothes hanging on a thread. Clearly a man was living here alone. THIS IS WHEN I GOT REAL REAL PROPER SCARED AND I RUN AS HELL, looking over my shoulder for a very long time. Luckily I found my way back eventually. So that man or bear thing is pretty real to me. And it's a no brainer

If I was magically transported to the proximity of a random bear in a random situation (cubs, food, etc) I would put my chances of survival below 96% without question. This is the actual evaluation of the question: if the probability of a random man being wicked to the point of sexual or physical assault is 1-4% and the probability of being eaten or mauled in a close encounter with a random bear is greater than 4%, the random man is the safer answer. This brings me back to my original statement that the question was more of a litmus test for the fear and anxiety levels of the respondents. If a tyrannical entity seeks to control as much of the population as possible, they will always resort to using fear. Irrational fear is the most maleable and contagious. If these tyrants can convince just 25% of the population that an idea - however irrational - is the true nature of their environment, the idea will inevitably become widely accepted amongst the population at large. First off, NEVER turn your back to or run away from any wild animal, it WILL end badly for you
Second, when encountering a grizzly bear, which is the type of bear in the first video, you should always play dead, laying stomach down with your hands covering the back of your head; grizzly bears are more aggressive than black bears
Third, NEVER make eye contact with any kind of wild animal because, again, it will end badly for you

In the early 2000's a friend and I had a similar expirience in Germany. A guy was following our car and only stopped when we pulled up at the next police station.
Once a guy in a car followed the bus I was in and waited until I got out at my stop, only to yell out his open window and harrass me through catcalling.

A similar thing happened to me as I was coming home from work. I was walking to my car from the train station. This random man saw me and began running towards me, fumbling with his pants. I can't really agree with you. When I was little, I went with my father to the mountains to find our lost goats. At some point I got distracted by a lizard and started chasing it, until I got lost. I ended up in a region of the mountain, I have never been before and stayed there and cried, until I heard the bells from animals. I went to their direction thinking it was our lost goats. I ended up infront of a herd of sheeps with a male farmer and guess what, he was a complete stranger I had never seen before.
What happened next... Instead of rapping me ( as most of you claim here) he calmed me down and then helped me to find my father whom I have left so far behind that I couldn't hear him desperately calling my name.
I'm forever grateful to this person and for that reason I refuse to believe that all men are monsters and all women are saints. Both genders have the possibility to be good or bad.
So, if they ever ask this ridiculous question about the man and the bear, I will definitely answer the man. Because if my child is found by a man, the possibility of him being a good man who will help it, like the farmer who found me, is very high. The fact that so many comments on other stuff about this debate are men being butthurt that women are “being irrational” and “anti-men” says A LOT about who they are as people, and they are the reason why we choose bears any days.
As someone who was SA as a KID by a man that I was close to (literally a family member), I am always gonna choose a bear. A bear I can defend myself from, it’s super easy. A man wouldn’t care if I was stabbing them and fighting back.

Not really. My husband's greatest fear is losing his family by so threat ( be it human both male and female, animal, disease, natural catastrophic or time itself).

From my perspective, it's a knee-jerk emotional response that a lot of women have when prompted with that question. They don't actually think it through with logic. The reality is that most men would not harm a woman, just a VERY small subset of them. If you modify the scenario to: "would you rather be trapped in a ROOM with a bear or a random man", I guarantee the answer shifts overwhelmingly to the man. If you were to modify the question further and ask would you want to instantly turn all men in the world into bears, the answer would be a resounding no. A world where every man turns into a bear would be very unsafe for all women, they would just be bear food.
Also, if you correct for per capita and how infrequent human and bear interactions occur versus how frequent man and woman interactions are you'll soon realize that correcting for population size is the wrong way to look at it and statisticaly speaking the bear becomes FAR more dangerous. I think women are just conditioned to be afraid of men while not realizing how truly dangerous a wild animal that can't be reasoned with can be.

I was lost in the forest once. There was no bears but there were boars. They can unalive you bloody as well. I heard them so they were there for sure. I ran away and continued to look for the road. I was scared but i felt like if i stay calm and keep going i can get on top of the situation. Then I arrive to a wooded hilltop. A bear is an apex predator. It is afraid of humans technically because we stand at the top of the food chain but in a close scenario humans stand no chance against top apex predators.

If a woman is dropped into the woods and a random man is dropped in the woods with them, the probability of that man being wicked - to the point of physical or sexual assault - is relatively low.

When we eliminate "random" from the input of the question but reinsert it into the output, the result is that a random man would act in the same way as a wicked man. Therefore, if a random man would act that way, ALL men must be considered to most likely act that way. Looking at the scenarios from a purely rational perspective, a random man is between 1-4% likely to be a truly wicked man who would do the extremely evil things that cause this level of anxiety. Bears in general are not going to just pop up out of nowhere. The premise of the question implies that it would be a random bear in a random encounter scenario. Defensive, offensive, guarding food or cubs, just passing by. These are all very different situations and all advice I found on bear encounters included having bear spray or some other deterrent. Bear spray works on people too. Without any sort of deterrent, the advice skewed towards "hopefully it's a black bear and there's no food or cubs nearby." I can only guess as to how often a person stumbles upon a bear in close proximity. If I'm being logical, I would say that this exact circumstance is exceptionally rare. Similarly rare to how often a person is killed by a bear in the wilderness. If I was magically transported to the proximity of a random bear in a random situation (cubs, food, etc) I would put my chances of survival below 96% without question. This is the actual evaluation of the question: if the probability of a random man being wicked to the point of sexual or physical assault is 1-4% and the probability of being eaten or mauled in a close encounter with a random bear is greater than 4%, the random man is the safer answer.
This brings me back to my original statement that the question was more of a litmus test for the fear and anxiety levels of the respondents. If a tyrannical entity seeks to control as much of the population as possible, they will always resort to using fear. Irrational fear is the most maleable and contagious. If these tyrants can convince just 25% of the population that an idea - however irrational - is the true nature of their environment, the idea will inevitably become widely accepted amongst the population at large. In this case just the demographic of women is being targeted. If 25% of women say "bear" to the question, they have accepted the irrational conclusion that a random man is worse than a random bear and by proxy - switching to perceived logic - all men are more dangerous than bears.

Wherever this hypothetical question came from, it is intended to set the tone between women that men are unsafe and that women should fear them in any situation.
