This is a very helpful video. I’m all set for the sew along for the Mountain View jeans. When will that begin? I can’t wait. Thanks for all your great videos.
Love all 10 cool weather fashions. Next time I view your videos I’ll be down in warm sunny Florida. We have close to 10 hours of travel starting very early tomorrow morning. I can’t wait to get down there and set up my sewing space.
Whew! Couldn’t agree with you more right down the line on your top ten Love Notions patterns for Fall. The only patterns I do not own are the Olympia dress and the Sybil skirt; they’re just not “me” however, I have made the Breckinridge Henley dress version to wear with leggings and I LOVE it!!! Unlike you, I did not make a single coat/jacket last year so my weekend plan is to tackle the Octave coat using Tami’s zipper hack! Anxiously awaiting next week’s Love Notion’s “Party” and your capsules! How fun!
Always nice to hear about favorites, esp. when it’s clear they really are. We see you making them, often multiple times and we see you wear them. Looking forward to all the exciting stuff for next week! 💕
I found a remnant piece at Walmart(😳 for $4) and decided to test the Sloan. Oh my, it was so lovely(ray one knit in my color) and it is lovely. Then I dug out a floral print I had hoarded last year and made it again for a casual look to go with jeans. I LOVE that pattern! I’m so glad I have discovered LN patterns.
Wow 🤩. I have 5 of those patterns (plus some others not mentioned). I’ve made the Sloan in so so many different knit fabrics - it’s my go to for a quick top and quite easy add a cowl neck hack on to it too. I’ve made the Sybil a few times as well - great pattern. Have just finished the Harmony blouse (for the first time) in a silky remnant so it has short sleeves but I did the neck tie in a “pussy bow” style and it looks so pretty. Thanks Whitney for all of your inspirational vlogs 🤓🏴
I love these kinds of videos. They are so much fun to watch. I am making three Rhapsody tops as soon as my fabric arrives. I’m making two for my fall/winter wardrobe and the third one is for my costume in a musical I’m in. I think Love Notions patterns are perfect for wearing in a musical.
I used the Sabrina slims maternity add-on to the Sybil skirt (when I needed it - don't expect to need it again!) and it worked great! I wore that skirt a ton. I love the Olympia dress. I think it's very timeless and also very on-trend for this fall.
😃 I'm actually attempting to make an octave coat this weekend... it's my first coat so I'm nervous but excited! Hopefully I love it because I desperately need a coat lol
Good luck! I think with all the pattern support on their site, you should be good to go on this one! I'd also look at Karina's channel (lifting pins and needles). I feel like she did a sew along or a tutorial on this pattern.
Thank you! I love it as well. It's a cotton/spandex from StyleMaker Fabrics and I actually cut it out crossgrain to get the stripes vertical. You'll want to check that the stretch is sufficient, though to cut it that way for whatever pattern you use. This is the fabric: stylemakerfabrics.com/products/watercolor-sunset-stripe-jersey-knit-rust
Whitney, thanks for this top ten! As I’ve only been sewing garments for a year and a half, I appreciate Love Notions (found them through you) for their tutorials and general support. I am struggling with the Rhapsody blouse. That neckline has me so frustrated. I cannot seem to get it right. Do you have a suggestion for a fabric that will allow for success? The first attempt was a fail due to poor fabric choice (beginner ignorance- double gauze). I then tried a muslin for just the upper bodice to practice that neckline and still couldn’t get it. Suggestions of fabric would be so helpful. Thank you.
Try using a cotton lawn. I've made one using that fabric and while it's not as drapy as a rayon, it still worked beautifully. It will also be a ton easier to practice the bias binding!
I'm curious as how many yards you buy at a time. You mentioned a few things that you made with remnants and I always feel like I don't have enough usable fabric left over.
Usually when I'm mentioning remnants, I've bought it that way from the shop (end of bolt). However, I can often squeeze a second piece out of fabric depending on what I'm making. If I know a fabric is going to be a jacket or a dress I'll usually grab 3 yards/meters. For tops and shirts and pants I'll grab 2-2.5 depending on the width and I grab 1.5 for t-shirts. This is just a general rule of thumb, though.
Thank you for this and for your other videos. They are all very helpful and I enjoy my one way relationship with you. One little thing though… While I am happy to support you, and make sure to use your links, I wonder why I have to endure multiple ads in videos where you provide affiliate links. Imho and because time is my most precious commodity, it’s the equivalent of charging me to watch your commercial. Isn’t there a way to make sales-oriented videos ad-free? Maybe I’m just misunderstanding, though, and need to turn my thinking around…
I totally understand the annoyance of the videos. While I can choose to monetize a video, RUclips still has the final say in how many and what ads they show. Unfortunately, I don't have control over too much of that.
Does anyone but me find these print it yourself patterns unwieldy. I had a print shop print the wanderlust dress pattern for me. It cost me $22 plus the cost of the pattern. I think this is a very bad trend. I have no idea how I will store that pattern. Give me a tissue pattern that comes in an envelope any day!
Lynn not sure where you are located, but there is a company in the US called PDF plotting that prints them pretty reasonably. I think it is like $2 or $3 a page and they are fast. I also bought a cheap projector and just use that to create my pattern pieces. Some people cut directly from the projector but I haven’t done that yet. I do hate taping the patterns.
I struggle with putting them together. So I assemble the pattern in parts. I just cut the parts I need so I am not dealing with a huge piece. It probably takes longer but it works so much better for me.
FWIW, I used to feel like you. In fact, on some sites I once posted that I was through being a chump, paying for costly PDF patterns that I then had to pay to print or spend a bunch of time taping together. I’ve come around, though, and now prefer PDFs. After putting together the first 4 or 5, it got way easier and way faster. Almost as easy as ironing the tissue and then having to delicately handle it. I still like certain aspects of tissue patterns, but it’s more important to me that PDFs are forever patterns. If I ruin one or outgrow it or want to make it for someone of a different size, I merely re-print it and off I go. Some alterations are way easier to do because I can grade between sizes. I store my PDFs is large yellow envelopes, and getting the PDF pieces into the envelope is easier than getting the tissue back into its envelope.
I jumped on the projector bandwagon a year ago - I project onto rolled pattern paper, because of alterations I need to do. I am sold on this method….and I am 67. Old dogs can learn new tricks ;)
Have a great weekend too. 😍
Thank you!
Thank you. Very informative. Love your videos -- energy and authenticity.
I'm so glad to read that!
My husband walked in while I was listening to you and he commented what a good speaker you are! Thought you would like to know

Thank you for your positivity and encouragement. Some day I'll be able to just whip up a shirt! :)

Definitely looking forward to your Friday video. Thanks!

TomKat Stitchery she did and I watched it and used the website and all it's help and now I have a wonderful coat!
I just love your top. The colors are the top is beautiful. I must know where you got the fabric.

If I want to purchase more than one pattern using your affiliate links do I need to check out twice?
No. If you get to the site via the link, it's all counted.

My favorites of Love Notions' are Rhapsody Blouse with the Sybil Skirt. It is time for the Breckenridge Henley! ~ L
Those are definitely three of my favorites as well!

@@lynettedaniels1236 I do that sometimes too, for shirt patterns, but anything else is too much.😯

O I hear with two weeks of nothing but sewing 😂 work/family/house and pets aarrrgghhhh 😂 reality
Right?!! I told my husband that my dream vacation would be for him and kids to leave for a week 😂. He may have taken some offense.
